Prayers for BIL

My brother in law that is 67 is going in for colon surgery on the 19th.
He has colon cancer and they are going to take out a good portion of his colon.
He also has a severe heart problem. They told them yesterday that he will be in the hospital over Christmas and that with his heart he may not make it.
What I don't understand is why didn't they take care of his heart problem first instead of his cancer. I just can't imagine what he is going though right now.
So if you could please say a prayer for him. He's a really sweet man. His name is George. Thank You.

There are some heart problems that can't be taken care of - like heart failure - they can only be treated, and things like surgery and chemotherapy are very hard on someone with a heart problem like that. I sure hope everything turns out for the best. It can be very stressful to go through all of this.

Thanks for asking. He's pretty scared emotional. Physical he's not feeling to bad.
If from what they have said he needs a heart valve replacement. He has a pacemaker. So I'm not to clear on that.
That's all I know for now. I'm taking that day off I may go down and be with Sara.
Depending on the weather.

I have had lots of small and large intestine removed due to Crohn's Disease, so I know how rough this surgery can be. I hope everything goes well for him.

As of 1:30 today they hadn't taken him to surgery. He went into the hospital at 10:30 am. He's running a temp. So they had to do a chest x-ray to check his lungs and his heart. They said his lungs look fine. He had the chills before he left home. They told my SIL that they would wait to see what the heart dr said and then take him to surgery if dr thought it was ok. She called at 1:30 said it was a
waiting game right now. That if he did make it though surgery they would keep him sedated till Sunday and wake him up slowly. Don't want anymore stress on his heart. Then she had to get off the phone because they were taking him some
where. Haven't heard any more. That was an hour ago. I wish I could be there
but there are already 17 people waiting around in the waiting room. Thanks for all your prayers. It doesn't sound good.

Gosh! They usually don't take people to surgery with a temperature, unless the surgery is an emergency. This does not sound good.... :(

Last night my BIL came out of surgery at 7:30 pm. The Dr told my SIL that things were not looking good at all. He had some bleeding that they couldn't get stopped and they couldn't get his blood pressure to stablize.:( They finally think they got the bleeding under control. It's 7:00 am now and have not heard anything. I am praying for a Christmas mircale. So no news is good news I hope.

Linda, I do hope George will recover from this, although with the colon cancer...???

How is Sara handling all this? Is her whole family up there? I can't see Brad or Judy missing work for anyone except fishing, but I hope they were there for Sara.

Judy was there of course. Pearl is there too for Sara. Then there's all of George's family. Yesterday was his brother's 10th wedding anniversary and he was spending the day at the hospital for his brother. They said there were about 17 to 20 people there just for George.
Judy was spending the night with Sara at the hospital while Pearl spent the night at Sara's friends house not far from the hospital.
Still no word yet.

To have all those people there for George says a lot about him.

Linda, do you have an update on George?

As of noon yesterday. Sorry we weren't home most of the day. His blood pressure was stable, they have him on a ventilator. His heart rate isn't where they want it. But he made it though the night and his Blood sugar was where they wanted it. They will try and wake him up possibly tomorrow. If we hear any more today and my lights don't go out will keep you posted.
We have 50 to 60 mph wind gust today and negative temps and snow.
THanks everyone.....He's not out of the wood yet. The drs thought for sure he would not have made it though the night. But he is a strong willed man.

Thanks girls for all the prayers. George had a very nice Christmas he was moved out of ICU and on to the Heart floor. He is still getting tons of visitors. We went to see him on the 26th. They are trying to get him up and moving. They had gotten him up to stand but he couldn't move his legs because they felt like lead weights. They are hopping to get him moved to a regular floor. They are just waiting to see how his heart is doing. But so far so good. Thanks again for all of your prayers.:)

That's great Linda. I know they probably talked about it at Mom's on Christmas, but I wasn't there. I wouldn't have asked them anyway...I would have waited and came here to ask you.

Sara is very wore out. He wants her to stay at the hospital with him and she has.
She teaches so she has been off this whole time thank goodness. But has to go back on Jan 5th. I just hope she gets some rest soon. Thanks for asking Janet.

I'm glad to hear that your BIL is doing better. I'm sure that with time he'll be doing much, much better. Once they get you up and moving it seems to help with recovery.
