View Full Version : Getting there

I got to unpack my pictures this week. I leaned them against the walls in the rooms I'm thinking of hanging them in so I can decide.

I also unpacked quite a few cartons in the den. I have (I think) all of my books in the bookcase. I have 2 shelves of novels, 2 shelves of science fiction and 1 shelf of assorted things, like the still wrapped comic book when Superman was killed off, a book about baseball cards, one about the history of Brooklyn, etc. That's a fun shelf. When I get to it, I'll organize the books by author. (OCD anyone?). My books make me very, very happy. They are like old friends.

I ordered a new gizmo to clean the floors with. It's called a Gloss Boss and has a polishing/buffing function. Hopefully, that will buff off the water streaks.

Now I have to find the boxes in the pantry that need to be unpacked, and get to them. I think there might be one or two in the basement too. The pantry needs to be set up the way I like it, some stuff has to go into the garage, including my tires that have been in my trunk for about a month! I forgot all about them.

After that, I have to organize my papers, a couple of cabinets and that should do it. It's really not that much work and I'm so happy. Once I'm done, I can relax in my new home.

I still need to buy some things, and I will get to that slowly. I definitely need window treatments. I cannot believe the prices of pleated window shades! I have 10 windows to do and I'm not spending $100 for each shade! Some of the windows will also get drapes, but they don't have to cost that much. I love sheers and will probably get them for the bedroom.

Any ideas?

Wow Judy. I can't believe you're almost settled in. Congrats! I definitely understand about the book thing. I LOVE my books too. Brendon and I REALLY need a nice bookshelf to display some of them. Please post pics when you're all done.

Judy my friend....you have been really busy! When you're done...how about coming here and doing my spring cleaning?????...lol I just know it's all so beautiful and when you have everything where you want them....the pictures for us will be a real treat.

Just reading your post has made me want to start cleaning now. I'm not real good at window treatments, but I bet you can find some good ideas complete with pictures online. I have a lot of big windows so in the bedroom I have just valances, but with shades. I love having a lot of light coming through....helps with the seasonal depression. Today the sun is shining brightly through my windows....beautiful!

I am impressed!!
Been in my house for the last 9 years and still don't have everything done!!

Only suggestion I can give you for window treatments is JC Penny Home Store. Wonderful selections and usually have great sales.

Sounds like you are really getting it together!!! Won't be long and you will feel right at home!!

I'm no good at window treatments. This is one area that I'm definitely lacking in. Most of our windows have plantation shutters on them. Window treatments are hard!!

Forgot all about that Shada!!! I have always bought my curtains/drapes at JC Penney. Whenever I needed a window treatment I would go buy one of their catalogs. I did get my kitchen curtains at Wal Mart, the rest from Penney's.

Judy, you have been busy. I know window treatments are expensive. I got a wooden blind from Home Depot, it was too long and they will not cut the length off, just the width, tried it and it is a nightmare threading and tying off the strings. It just has to stay down all of the time.

Hi Judy....Ooooo decorating....my kind of thread!!! I think you and I are kind of in the same situation...although your place looks brand new! We just moved into our home in October. It is fairly new...only 15 years old.....We have been talking window treatments lately also! Our main room kitchen/living room has cathedral ceilings, is pretty open, well lit but it came with (what the realtor said were pretty expensive window treatments)--they are wooden blinds, very thin, blond colored wood....they are OK for now..but a little bleh....plain....but my husband is handy and I am somewhat crafty so we're thinking of making fabric covered cornices (for color) and then using sheers (for more light). I think it might do the trick! ;) JC Penny's does have some nice draperies also, but your're right it can get costly!! If you can sew at all, it can save you some $$!
