My Mom's been having a lot of trouble with her shoulder. She finally went to a specialist and the news wasn't very good. The cartilage is gone and she has bone on bone. This morning she's scheduled to have surgery. I don't know what time the surgery is but she's suppose to be at the hospital at 11:00. The doctor that will be doing the surgery is an excellent doctor. Mom will be in the hospital for 2-3 days and some of her sisters will be here to take care of her, which works out well for me since I have Karlie. Prayers would really be appreciated!!!

My goodness Diana....I pray the surgery will go well for your mother and that she recovers quickly. That must have been very painful for her...bone on bone. Is the hospital near you?

Shoulders are tricky - I sure hope she does well. You've been through shoulder physical therapy, I know. So encourage her to do it faithfully, when it starts. It is the key to recocvery!

The hospital was 45 miles away at Parsons and she was suppose to be there at 11:00 and I got there a few minutes after that. She didn't go into surgery until 12:45. Her surgery took about an hour and a half and she was in recovery for a while. It was quite some time before she was taken up to her room. She looked really bad but since she'd just had surgery that was to be expected. She has an ice thingy that circulates cold water to help with the swelling. The doctor said that everything went as expected and that it was going to be painful for a while.

We had half of a waiting room filled with three of my aunts, an uncle, my step-father, our pastor and his wife, and me. We had a good time chatting while we were waiting. I hate to think about the pain that she's going to have with therapy. No fun. Thanks for your prayers!!

Glad to hear that surgery went well. Do you know what they did? She'll need lots of support to get her through this, but it sounds like she has just what she needs!!!

I am so happy to read that all went as the Drs. expected. Now she'll need to do what they say to recover quickly. I do hope she won't be in too much pain that it bothers her to do therapy.

They did a shoulder replacement. Just like they do for knees so she'll have quite a bit of recovery time and therapy. Sorry that I left that part out. I was in Wichita yesterday and I haven't checked to see how she's doing yet.

Diana, I'm so sorry I missed this. That sounds painful. It is a good thing she has so many people around her.

I will pray for her for sure.

I talked with her this afternoon and she said that therapy was really hard. The doctor was going to let her go this evening some time so she's probably home by now. I'm going to go over tomorrow and see how she's doing. Also, another aunt, Marva, is going to be there.

Shoulder replacement - wow! that's a a big one. The physical therapy for recovery is going to be hard and painful. She'll need grit and determination to get through it. Shoulder replacement is not common, her shoulder was really bad and she must have been in lots of pain!

I hope your Mom is one of those that will do whatever needs to be done to get better, that she can stand the pain and discomfort to get her shoulder mobility back.

Yes, she had been in a lot of pain, but I only heard her talk about it once. She's not one to complain. She had already tried several other things and it had gotten to where there wasn't anything else to do and it was only going to get worse. She's been working on her therapy and yes, she's very determined to get better and back with her life. The pain must be really bad to do her exercises. She takes a pain pill before she starts but says that she can't tell that it helps much. I'm sure that it helps some and she just doesn't know it. She's a pretty tough woman!!!

Good for her, if she's tough, she'll make it!
