View Full Version : Grandma's house
I had my 3 grandchildren and Mackenzie's friend sleep over last night. I had a ball, but I never stopped moving! I took a nap as soon as they left.
We had never ending snacks, dinner, made brownies, played online, board games, chatted, did their laundry after they got chocolate on their clothes, and so on and on and on.
Brandon played his handheld game or played with his soldiers on my bed all by himself. What a good boy! He did play hide and seek with the girls though.
Kassidy only had one meltdown. I took her alone and we played so that took her right out of her little hissy fit. I thought Mackenzie was enjoying her friend, but it seems she made numerous calls to my daughter to tell her how Katie was annoying her. She told me this morning also. I don't know - I think 11 1/2 year old girls are in permanent PMS. I didn't see Katie doing anything so terrible. I feel bad, but I think Mackenzie needs to learn that she has to make concessions for her friends' faults. Katie is a little bossy, but she is a good friend. Still, Mackenzie is an amazing person.
Anyway, I had such a great time with them! One is cuter and sweeter than the next.

I know that was fun AND exhausting!!! I have a 12 year old granddaughter and I know exactly what you mean by permanent PMS!!! What is even worse that two 12 year old girls, is 3. Don't ever let her bring 2 friends, because three 12 year old girls NEVER get along. I think it is an unwritten rule that 2 of them will gang up on the 3rd one and make her cry. Also, my g-daughter will sometimes call her mom multiple times when she is here. I usually never know it till my daughter tells me.

Thanks! I needed to hear that. What are they doing? Maybe they text each other all over the world to make us crazy.
But, how cute are they?

I don't know how you did all that Judy. I would have been so exhausted just to think about doing it. I see this on my bus all the time, that two girls will get along just fine....for the most part, but bring that 3rd one in and it's always a disaster.
By the time I have grandchildren, I'll probably be way too old to participate much in their lives. I wanted to be able to babysit, but I don't know if that will happen.

Now, Janet, you are not that old, girl. I'm just afraid that our daughters or son-in-laws will be so particular that they won't let the children stay because we have dogs in our house or don't drive safely or something. I'm determined not to be too old, and I'm older than you!!
By the way, Judy, sooooo glad that you had such a wonderful time. Hope you can do it again very soon!!!!
You'll be babysitting Janet! I don't do it more than once a month. It's easier to go there. When I have had it, I go home.
Marilyn - your fears are realistic. I find the best way to handle it is to not do anything my daughter and SIL don't want me to (as far as they'll ever find out).
And, NEVER trust the children not to rat you out! They can't wait to go home and tell Mommy what Grandma Judy did. And they love me a lot too!
The good thing is that the older I get, the more oblivious I can choose to be to all of their undercurrents. I just have so much fun with each of them, and then take a nap when they go home.
The funniest thing is to watch my daughter and SIL when they drop them off. I'm surprised they don't just slow the car down and let the kids jump out. This time, my SIL brought their stuff in and said to Jessie, "Alright, let's go." If they stayed 45 seconds, it was a long time.

It sounds like you had a great time with your grandchildren!! I just love having the kids over and doing that kind of stuff because I want the kids to have good memories of being at Grandma's house. I"m sure that you made some good memories with your grandkids.
