Al Gore is giving a lecture at my school tomorrow. My hubby and I were lucky enough to get tickets. (We waited in line forever!) I may not agree with everything he says, but I'm super excited to get to hear him speak. The lecture is titled "Leading Voices in Public Health." Should be interesting!

I bet you would love that lecture! ;) If I'm not completely exhausted when I get home, I'll give you a summary. I'm driving all day again today and then going straight to the lecture. I'll be ready for the weekend when it gets here! lol

He's one person that I don't think that I'd care to listen to. I don't agree with a lot of what he says.

We had an AMAZING turn-out and the lecture was great. I had no idea that Gore was such a good speaker with a hilarious sense of humor. I'm definitely grateful for the chance to hear him speak.

Gayle, as far as health issues, he discussed the effect of temperature and climate on the spread of disease. He talked about how insects become more prevalent during hotter seasons and therefore diseases are more common. He also discussed the fact that the cold often slows down the reproduction of bacteria. Judy probably has a much better understanding of that kind of thing than I do, but it was interesting.

Judy has a mad crush on Al Gore! Too bad he is married. He taught in Manhattan. I would have signed up for his class and batted my eyelashes at him.

LOL! He'd probably love to hear that. He told a story at the beginning of his lecture about the passage of time. He was in a restaurant one evening and a lady kept staring at him and he noticed. Well, eventually she came up to him and said, "You know, you would look JUST like Al Gore if you dyed your hair brown." :yelrotflmao: He said he just smiled and said, "Thank you for that." Then she said, "You sound like him, too." He said he just thanked her again. He cracked me up!

Thank you Angie! I will listen to his whole speech when I am having my coffee tomorrow morning. I watched a few minutes, and he is still hot. I love intelligent men.

An interesting fact is that many, maybe even most (since I don't hear everyone) politicians are VERY good speakers and pretty charismatic - or else they wouldn't have gotten that far in politics.

I've never attended a speech by a politician that I didn't think was very well delivered, and I found myself being captivated by the speaker.

How cool, he always seems like such a character! And it is refreshing that he cares about the environment.

I love good speakers. Maybe because I know I could never do what they do. LOL

I agree! We really need to take care of our home. Even if you don't believe global warming exists, being better caretakers of our surroundings will only be helpful to our society and our future...

Absolutely! We are certainly polluting our environment in many ways that we can turn around to some point. We can also be much more careful with nonrenewable resources. There are so many ways we can take care of our planet so that it is better for generations to come.

Whether or not global warming exists, it does not exonerate us from acting responsibly for our children's' sakes. I think that most of us are probably doing our best anyway. Diana, I'm sure that, as farm owners, you and Greg take excellent care of your environment. I was a hippie, and we were very involved in what they call "going green" now. I just do not walk out of a room without turning off the lights. These things are just habits.

Judy, I sent my resume in for a position that will help recruit employees for "green" jobs in my city. I don't know if I can take the job if offered. It all depends on whether or not I get into grad school and my application to DCS, but I think it's a job I would really love.

That sounds like a great job. I hope you can take it.

The program is being created as part of the stimulus package. I never thought any of that money would affect me or that it would bring green jobs to my city. It's pretty cool to see how politics affect your everyday life.
