For the past couple of weeks I have been thinking more and more about getting out and leaving Saskatoon for a few years and having new experiences. I feel stuck in a rut here. I have been totally open and honest with Scott about it because he said he is happy here.
Well, he told me he would absolutely like to have an adventure with me. He had thought about moving to the states a few years ago, and so did I. I just want to experience a warmer climate for a few years!
We can't go yet, and with the economy down there being how it is, it wouldn't be the best time anyway. He is getting his Applied Science Technologist designation (A. Sc. T. initials after his name) and I will try to get mine this year too. Having the designation will help tremendously with the border crossing.
I've done a few job searches in the past week to see our options and salary ranges, and we've both looked at housing costs or rental costs and realized it's really something we could do!
I am so excited to have the option available to me, and to know if I go it won't be alone. I would always have a friend! Even if we are gone for a year, it's something I can say I wanted to do and I did.
I am so lucky to have finally found someone who matches me so perfectly in terms of goals and dreams. Hopefully his mom eventually just lets us live our lives!

Where are you thinking of moving to? The job situation might be better in some states. What do you guys do exactly?

Enjoy your search for the perfect place!!!

We both work in civil engineering. Right now we are both drafters, but have both also done lab work (he did more than I did and was lab manager for awhile), and I am now getting into design work, doing my first proposal for stormwater design for a new development. We are really not picky about where we go! I thought about Texas because I have a good friend who lives there, but I'm pretty open to going anywhere with warmer weather and cheaper living! We have had such a long cold winter this year I am just ready to warm up lol.

Where does your friend live? Check out FMC Technologies, in Houston. My Hubby's a Civil Engineer and head of the Structural/Civil Engineering Department there.

Sounds great! I think you had given me that info before too but I'll definitely look again.
My friend lives in Lake Jackson. I believe it's about an hour from Houston.

Good luck! I hope everything works out the way you plan. :) I've always wanted to travel too, but it's not so easy with four pets. lol (Wouldn't trade them for anything in the world though!) :)

Oh I know! There are SO many opportunities in Australia and it's easy to get there, and that was my big plan until I found out my poor dog would have to be quarantined for a month or two. But I couldn't leave her behind, and I didn't want to put her through that :( So I guess I'll just stick with a country that's connected to mine!
