They do have a cute website!! It looks like it would be an interesting store to shop in. Too bad they're only in the southwest.

Looks like a really cool place. Where will it be located in Austin? Perhaps we'll check it out when they get up and going. Can't grow all my produce! ;-)

1. I35 & 620 in Round Rock

2. highway 183 - by the Arboretum (between Great Hills Trails and Braker Lane) (north Austin)

3. Bee Caves Road (west Austin)

4. Brodie Lane (south Austin)

The stores won't be open till fall - the website above lists the exact addresses.

Thank you, Gayle. I didn't think to check on the website since the store(s) aren't open yet. We'll probably check out the one on Brodie Lane. Thank you for the information. The couple who went on the cruise with us will be moving to Roundrock when school is out. I'll have to share this with them.

Are they an organic market? Organic foods are way too expensive up here.
I paid $1.99 for a dozen local eggs. 6 free range chicken eggs were the same price! No way!!!

It appears by the ads that I can see on the internet that they have lots of organic things. You are right, organic is very expensive but worth it for some things. There is a list of 10 things you should always buy organic - my daughter has it and she does try to buy those organic products. It's things like milk, potatoes, strawberries, grapes, and I can't remember the rest!

The prices on the ads on the internet are better than Whole Foods the organic store we have here. But those ads are for products in Arizona, so not sure what the prices will be in Texas. I"m hoping a little less than Whole Foods! Maybe the competition will make Whole Foods come down in price.

What are the 10 things? I don't drink milk and I don't buy strawberries. I'm allergic to both. I don't buy potatoes - too fattening. So it's narrowed down to grapes until I find out what the rest of the foods are.

1) peaches

Here is the link to the article for the list above http://www.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt_150/175_eating_well.html

2)Potatoes
3)Peanut Butter

6)Cotton
7)Apples
8)Beef
9)Soy
10)Corn

Here's the link for the second list - it's produced by an organic milk company  and is geared for non-organic foods that children should avoid. http://www.horizonorganic.com/raising/prescription.html

According to a 2009 article, their list is:

1. Peaches - pesticide load: 100
2. Apples - pesticide load: 96
3. Bell Peppers - pesticide load: 86
4. Celery - pesticide load: 85
5. Nectarines - pesticide load: 84
6. Strawberries - pesticide load: 83
7. Cherries - pesticide load: 75
8. Lettuce - pesticide load: 69
9. Grapes (imported) - pesticide load: 68
10. Pears - pesticide load: 65

So, if I put the 2 groups together, I come up with peaches, apples, grapes, pears, nectarines and spinach. I don't use the other products. There are controversies about the validity of the studies cited, of course. Personally, I don't think the cost of buying these few items organic is worth looking into the research.

Basically, it's the fruit section and spinach. That is quite livable. We have a lot of local fruit stands up here. We also have organic sections in our supermarkets and then, of course, some scattered health food shops. I would prefer to buy from local fruit stands. I'm going to ask around to see who sells organic.

I do not like health food stores though. I see products there that I know are not particularly healthy, like granola bars, etc. I also feel that people get roped in and become easily obsessed with unimportant, and very expensive, things.

Judy, I think buying local is the key - but also ask about pesticides - whether or not they were used. We have farmers markets in the Austin area and a grower cannot have a booth, if they do not grow organic - so there is no question.

I bought some fruit and vegetables from someone who came up from South Texas - he was honest, I think, because some things were organic, some were not.

I will ask around about organic locals. If not, the supermarket has organic fruit.
