Okay...for too many years I was taking Premarin. I didn't have any problems with it at all, but knew that no one should stay on it for very long, so I stopped.

I started taking Black Cohosh. It was recommend by Tink. It works great for Tink, but it didn't work for me. My sister-in-law takes something called New Phase and said it works wonderful for her...no more hot flashes at all.

I started taking the New Phase about 8 weeks ago and it's still not working for me. I darn near sweat all the time. It's horrible.

So after this long post, I'm wondering if any of you know of anything else that might work. I was told to go to a health store and they would recommend something. I'm not real sure I want a store clerk recommending something for me...lol. Is there something out there that will work? Maybe I should just go back on the hormones....at least I wasn't sweating all the time.

I'm sorry, Janet, but I really don't have a recommendation for you. I think that the best thing you can do is go to your GYN and have them run a test to find out where your hormones are at. Then you can decide whether to go back on HT or not.

I have some problems with hot flashes but not enough that I'm going to go back on HT. I do run a little warmer than I used to but that's a good thing because I've always been so cold.

Thanks Diana. I guess I'll go back to the GYN even though I don't want to. Not sure how much longer I can stand this. Like now. I walked from the bedroom to this chair and I'm perspiring so bad. I would love to run a little cooler for a change.

It is really miserable to have hot flashes, especially to run continually hot. Since you've tried the over the counter things, I agree, it's time to go back to the doc. You just may need a couple more years of hrt to get you past this. I don't have hot flashes anymore, finally, and I am 10 years post menopause. It took a long time!

I take 3 low dose prempro every week. It keeps my hot flashes to a very livable level. I only have very mild ones when I drink coffee or something. Nothing to even notice. I agree with you Diana. I like being a bit warmer all of the time, but that's not hot flashes. They are so awful.

I honestly do not trust a lot of the health food store products. They aren't required to list the ingredients and they are not regulated by the FDA. They really could put anything they want into pill form and call it Black Cohosh.

I met a woman in her 80's at the doctor's last week. She is still getting night sweats!!! Does it ever end?

Is that prescription Judy? If I go back to the Premarin, it's one every day.

It is prescription. You don't have to take one every day. I only take 3/week. My doctor suggested that I cut back slowly to as few as possible, so it has been over a two year period that I went from 7/week to 3.

Does it make a difference if you go through the change nautrally rather then haveing a hystorectomy (sp)? I started in my early 40's and have not had any problems with hot flashes, maybe just flushes every now & then but i can handle those cause i am cold blooded anyways.

Yes, you get estrogen from the dr.

Lynne, I think women who have an early hysterectomy have more symptoms, but it really depends on the individual woman.

I had a hysterectomy at 42. I was taking a little more estrogen, but the doc cut it back a little at a time. You really need to go to the doctor and have your hormone levels checked. There is no need to suffer if you don't have to! If you are having hot flashes that bad, you probably can't sleep, can't concentrate, can't remember...all of those yucky symptoms!! Get some help girl:p!!!
