My dad just called to let me know they set the head stone on my moms grave today. FINALLY. We ordered it back in May. I guess that's what i get for working with my ex husband. He just happens to work at the cemetery where my mom is buried. I get so dare tired of being pushed aside. But then he was very good at that when we were married. Thanks for listening. I'm on a downer today.
It seems like that's all I ever post. Sorry girls. Janet I need a pick me up.

Tell me what you need girlfriend!!!
It took almost a year for Dick's headstone. They had the children's names put on the back of it so it took longer. How creepy is that to already have your name on a headstone????

Well ummm. My name and birthdate is on the back of my moms along with my other 2 brothers. That's what my dad wanted. So yeah it's creepy.

Didn't mean no disrespect, but that's what they did will all the kids, even the step-kids. I just don't want my name on one till it's time!!! Ya know!

I never heard of putting the children's names on the back of the headstone. That seems like a strange custom. My parent's headstone is all one piece for both of them. Tradition around here is to buy the stone after the first spouse dies and engrave both names with the death date blank on the living person's side. My father passed away 5 years before my mother, but she left her side of the stone completely blank. She did not want her name on a stone laying out in a cemetary until she was dead, so after she passed away, I had her information engraved. Between their names is a spot with their wedding aniversary date and two overlapped wedding rings. I think that is really nice, but so glad may name is not on it anywhere.

When living in Germany it seemed a Sunday past time for the locals to go visit the grave yard, but what I liked was that they put a picture of the person on the headstone.

I think it's something they use to do a while ago, but is making a comeback here. More money for the headstone people. My father has his headstone in the ground flat. (It's so they don't have to mow around a bunch of standing headstones), so there is no way to put something on the back. Mom's name is on it too, but no date. Our parents are buried in different cemetaries, so I told my hubby he could lie with his, I'll lie with mine....till death do us part...LOL

It takes a long time for a headstone to come in. It took several months for my husband's to come in. I had a scene from the house and land we owned engraved on it along with our wedding date. I had my name and birthday put on my side and I had both our slabs laid at the same time because I wanted them to be cut from the same granite. His has his nickname and "Beloved of Kim" at the bottom. Mine has "Mama of Russ and Mitch" in the middle and "Mark's Dumplin'" at the bottom. I did it because I didn't want my boys to have to worry about anything when I go.
I know it's depressing, but it's something to think about

It also took a very long time for my mom's parents' headstone to come in. My grandpa died about 3 years before my grandma and they both wanted to be cremated (sorry, this may be gross for some). So my grandma kept his ashes in an Urn. My mom ordered the headstone when my grandma died and it took like 4 months to create. She did something on it that I thought was really cool. My little brother and I are the only two that called them "Grandpa Buck" and "Grandma Bear." My mom had those names in quotes under their names on the headstone. The rest of it was pretty intricate, which could have been why it took a while.

That's so nice, Marilyn. I think that's how I will want mine...with my wedding anniversary date on there. :)

Ok so this may sound gross to some, but when my husband and I die, I want our ashes mixed together and then spread at the same time over the property where we are raising our kids. I want us to be returned to the earth together. I figure that means I have to keep his ashes if he goes first, and vice versa.
