A couple of months ago I went to the doctor for some medical testing. He likes to keep an eye on my kidney function due to some problems I had in my teens. I still need to see the kidney specialist every two years. The last time I saw him, my kidney function had improved by 200%.
This time, my doctor made me keep a food diary for 4 days, and bring in the vitamins I'm taking. We discussed my exercise and diet. He thinks I need to exercise more. He said I should be doing at least an hour of exercise 6 days a week, to the point of being out of breath. I know I'm out of shape even though I am not even close to overweight, but 6 days a week is a bit of a stretch for me!
He showed me the results of my blood and urine tests. I can't remember what it was that was an abnormal level in my kidneys before.... anyways whatever it was, the normal level is anything up to 300. When I was having kidney problems, the level my kidneys were tested at was 1400! WAY over normal! Now, I am down to 31!!!!! So that was great news!
My vitamin B12 is a bit too low so he wants me to start taking vitamin B on top of my multivitamin. I guess that's easy enough to do. It's easier than changing my diet at least.
Back in January I had some breakthrough bleeding which really scared me. I talked to him about it at my last appointment but he told me to just wait and see if it happens again. Well, it did! Just a few days before my appointment lol. He is not a fan of birth control pills, but told me I need to make my own decisions so he did write me a prescription for Ortho Tricyclen (I am now on Ortho Tricyclen- Lo). I was never regular before I started bc so I like how much easier it makes my life. Anyways, I am also excited to switch because the higher dose of hormones is supposed to be great for clearing up acne. I am embarassed to be almost 25 and still getting moderate acne all the time. Hopefully it clears up a bit with the new pills!

It sounds like everything is doing great, Lindsay! I too, had some kidney issues when I was young, and now although my readings are normal, they run on the high side - which is OK, but like you, I have to keep an eye on them!

I"m glad to hear that you go a script for BC pills that will help you in multi ways. I hope they do!

That's great Lindsey! That is a lot of exercise though. Walking is good exercise, and you can take Layla.

I told him that I do try to walk my dog daily. I am usually gone between a half hour and an hour. He asked if it's brisk walking and I said it's more casual. Brisk for Layla though! He wants me to walk briskly for an hour so I'm out of breath. He said it would be better for my dog too. I didn't tell him my dog wouldn't be able to keep up lol!
Now that it's getting warmer outside I would love to go for more walks by the river since I live so close. I think I will convince Scott to go on some "brisk" walks with me :)

Just got home from about a 45 minute walk with Scott and Layla. It wasn't slow but it wasn't brisk. I wasn't out of breath but we kept our pace and didn't stop (except for when Layla had to pee lol)
Now we're going to eat some watermelon while Layla sleeps it off :D

This will be your excuse to get a doggie stroller. We use ours to take Rex & Rowdy walking with us because Gary's doctor says he needs to walk non-stop. He can't walk till he gets out of breath, due to his heart condition, but he is supposed to walk continuously and you just can't do that with two BOY dogs. (who want to pee on every bush) LOL!

So, we pop them in the stroller and off we go! It's GREAT!

Or...you can carry Layla when she gets too tired. This is like walking with weights!

You are right, Judy! I never thought of that - it's like carrying 4-5 lb. weights!

Max weighs at least 10 pounds. I won't be carrying him anywhere!

Lindsey - how is the exercise going? I guess with your Mom sick, it has gone by the wayside for now.

Lol at the last vet visit, Layla was 11 lbs :) I haven't done a whole lot of exercise lately, unless you count walking around the hospital! If I start getting to be earlier I think I will try going for walks before work in the mornings.
