View Full Version : My Numbness

I finally called and got in to see the Dr. about the numbness in my thumbs and first two fingers on both hands. He was telling me how there are two main nerves, one taking care of the fingers I mentioned and the other one with the ring and pinky fingers.
We talked for a bit and then he decided from our conversation that the first thing we will try is water pills. I'm holding just a bit of fluid. I am to call him back next Tuesday to let him know if anything has changed. He said a week would be long enough to tell. If there is not a noticeable difference, then he will send me to a neurologist.
I know we kind of laughed at me not thinking it was from typing too much, but I don't type near as much as I use to....I don't think....could be wrong...it wouldn't be the first time...lol.

Glad you went to the doctor and hope the water pills fix it.

I hope so too...I need to quit waiting so long before I make an appointment. I just always figure it will go away, but it doesn't. I'm so dense sometimes.

I'm glad that you went and talked to the doctor. Hopefully, the water pills are just what you need.

Hope it is just the fluid retention. Good luck.

Thanks all. I've only taken one tablet this morning so I think I should know if there is a difference before too long....hopefully.

I'm just like you Janet, I wait forever to go to the doctor too. Usually my issues resolve by themselves - but when they don't like your numbness, you need to go

Well the water pills didn't work so Tuesday I called the Dr. to let him know. He is sending me to a neurologist in Lafayette on July 10th. It is so annoying to trying writing or picking up small things. Doesn't bother me too much for typing, but most other things it does.
I'll be taking Mom to her Kidney Dr. on the 9th in Lafayette and I'm afraid the Dr. will give her no choice but to go on dialysis. Can you believe she went camping in this heat? She'll be back tomorrow, but she sure does keep me worried. Mom is camping just south of town in someone's barnyard. Most of the time they will be in their house playing cards and visiting. I wish she would have just driven out and left her camper at home, it's not air conditioned.

I'm sorry to hear that the water pills didn't help. Have you ever put one of those wrist braces on your arm? I had problems with my wrist hurting a long time ago and I started sleeping with a wrist wrap thingy and after a while my problem went away. You can buy them at Wal-mart.
Your Mom is so determined to do her own thing!!!! She's going to keep you and your brother running in circles until she takes her last breath!!!!! Do you think that she'll start dialysis if the doctor says she has no choice? I know that you get so irritated at her, but I think she's cute with all of that spunk!!!!!
Iwould definitely try what Diana said - the wrist thingie. I hope it goes away soon! Pain is just wrong.
Your Mom is a hoot! She took her camper and stayed in a barn? Maybe she can have the dialysis done in her camper.

I don't have any pain in my wrists or hands...just my thumb, pointer finger and middle fingers on the ends have numbness...no pain. Such a weird feeling. When I go to Wal Mart or CVS I will check on the wrist bands. Maybe I'll be able to feel a difference before the appointment on the 10th.

Janet,
I hope the new dr can determine what's goin on. I've been waking up at night with my whole hand asleep. I just lay on it for to long. Good luck with that.
And I know your mom. She'll keep going no matter what. Your always in my prayers.

Linda, one of the wrist wraps would probably help you too. It has a metal plate in it that holds your hand a certain way and then you velcro the wrap onto your hand. It's really very comfortable. It doesn't allow you to hold your wrist wrong so you don't go numb. You'll find it where they have knee and ankle wraps at Wal-mart.

The wrist splints that Diana is referring to should help. They helped me with the carpal tunnel problems at first. Then mine got worse and the wrist splints didn't work any more.
Janet, hate to say it, but your symptoms sound like classic carpal tunnel syndrome.

Janet, I don't know how i missed this thread!!! I'm glad that you are going to the specialist - I think you need to have this checked out - but I'm hoping it is something simple!
You are right, it is too hot to camp in this heat with no AC - thankfully, she is inside with friends and AC. She is a hoot though, living life to the fullest, doing what she can to enjoy every moment.
