I used a new recipe to make Sloppy Joes tonight and it was really good!

Sloppy Joes

2 lbs hamburger
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1 (12 fluid oz.) can or bottle chili sauce (the kind you find in the ketchup aisle)
2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar (I used apple cider vinegar)
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. brown sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Put hamburger in large skillet to brown. Add the onion and green bell pepper. Saute till hamburger is brown and bell pepper and onion are tender. Add garlic and saute till garlic releases its aroma (about 1-2 minutes), add oregano.

In the same skillet over medium high heat, add chili sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar and mix well. Season with salt and pepper to taste and simmer 20-30 mins (or longer).

I toasted onion buns in the skillet. Gary loves lots of mustard on his sloppy joe bun, so I loaded his bun up with mustard, and lightly loaded mine. This was a really good sloppy joe recipe and especially good on this cool, rainy day!

Since I am not the best cook...lol...we usually eat Manwich...LOLOL. Oh well. With this recipe Galye, when do you drain the grease from the hamburger?

I use Manwich too, Janet! LOL! But I usually add some of my own spices, etc.

I didn't have to drain the grease, I used 94% lean hamb - but if I needed to drain it, I would do that before putting in the chili sauce, etc.

I might just try this one. We usually use Lawry's Sloppy Joe Mix.

I usually use Manwich or something like Lowery's mix, but decided to be brave and try a recipe. I thought they were good too!
