View Full Version : Blood pressure again

I have to take Mom to her kidney Dr. tomorrow and while I'm there I'm going to have them take my blood pressure.
I took it while I was helping Mom with the manual exchange and it was 141/101. I did go to my "happy place" and took it again and got it to 138/98, but that is still way too high...right?
I wonder if it's been running high if that is why I've been sweating so much. I would say perspire, but I kind of link that to underarms, I literally sweat...all over especially my face and hair. So if it's high there, then I guess I'll need to see the Dr about it. I do take BP meds so maybe they need changed.

Yes Janet, that's way too high...especially since you take medicine for it. I'm glad you're going to the doctor! I never heard of it causing a person to sweat, but be sure to tell the doctor about that. Probably just time for a different medication:) Keep us posted!
BTW....WHERE is your "happy place" ??:D

I took my BP again when I took Mom to the kidney Dr. and it was 13?/91. I'm going to talk with my Dr.
What did the doctor tell you Janet? I hope you got good medication that brings your bp down quickly! The sweating may be menopausal symptoms. Fun, isn't it?
How is Mom?

They don't want me coming in for awhile...can ya believe it???? Said they are swamped with flu people and it wouldn't be a good idea for me to go there. I'll figure out something. I had hysterectomy quite some time ago, so I don't think the menopausal thing is it.
Mom is doing great. We are switching machines to see if another one will not have the alarms going off all night.

Uhhh... Janet, that was the wrong response from your doctor. 13? over 91 is TOO HIGH! It can wait a week or so, but the flu will go on all winter and that is too long to wait!!!
Can you take it every day or every few days? If so, take it, keep a log, then call in to your doctor and tell them what it has been running. They can change your meds over the phone if they have a log. You can get a machine at the pharmacy - an automatic machine might cost $25-$35, but it is worth it.
I don't want you to have a stroke!! Also, prolonged high blood pressure can cause dementia-like symptoms in the brain. Now, that means really prolonged, like several years of untreated high BP, but still....... None of us need any memory problems!!!

Thanks Gayle...I'm getting one today and will keep a log for a few days. I have to admit...I'm a little worried now so that ought to help the BP...LOL. I know my weight has to play a major role, I wish I could get it off....it's just so hard.

I went and bought a BP machine and took it last night. Although at the moment I can't remember what it was...it was fine. I forgot to write it down, but I'm going to start taking it of a morning and evening and see what's happening. Maybe I was just all worked up....who knows.

You need to keep a record of what it is at home because you can have "white coat syndrome" which is where your BP goes high in the doctor's office. Glen has that.
I went to the doctor yesterday and my BP was 106/? (can't remember the bottom number). The doctor's changing some of my BP meds around. Maybe that's why I've been feeling funny lately.

Oh Janet... I hope you get your BP under control soon. As we all know, that can be so dangerous. I wish you well. When you had your hysterectomy did they remove your ovaries? When I had mine they didn't. But I had to have them removed in July and now I am starting with the hot flashes and head sweating.. it's awful! Maybe your sweating is related to that?
Yes to what Gayle says listen to her she knows best.. Don't wait change drs if you have to.

I'm hoping you DO have "white coat syndrome" - and that your blood pressure is A-OK at home. Then, you have nothing to worry about. When you are on BP meds, it is always a good idea to take your pressure at home on a regular basis cuz you never know when it will creep up - or go low - as in Diana's case!

I've already taken it this morning and it was fine again. I've never had 'whitecoat syndrome' before. My blood pressure is always fine at the Dr.'s office. Having to deal with mother does get to me sometimes and homelife......
I also had it in my head to just hop in the van and go visit Diana since I'm off for 4 days this week, but I got myself so worked up because I was too afraid to drive it alone. I also checked flights, trains and buses but no luck. I think once I realized I was just going to have to stay home....the BP went back to normal. I don't know of any other reasons why it was so high.

I'm so sorry that it caused your blood pressure to go up. I was looking forward to you coming. I kept checking to see if you'd called yesterday to tell me that you'd be on your way soon!!!

I know....I've got to figure out something, I wish I was as brave as you. I wonder if I plan it farther ahead I can get cheaper rates? I also worry that something will happen to Mom or Ricky and I'd have so far to drive back by myself. I'm going to do some checking.

I think that you have some anxiety that causes your bp to go up. Plan the trip and ask your doctor for something to help you with your anxiety. I'm sure that he'll give you something. I have a friend and she has to get something everytime she travels because she gets so worked up over going.
