View Full Version : Pain in arm
I have had this pain in my left arm for over two months. I am not one to complain but it wont go away!!!! It started two mts. ago I was in a store trying on a top and when I went to remove my top my arm was bothering me as I lifted it up. I started to pay attention and its the muscle above the elbow. I waited awhile and when to the dr. and she told me to take motrin for 10 days 1800 mg. I hate taking motrin for to long afraid it may bother my stomach.
I havent done any strenous excerise trust me, the only thing I could think of you know me with my dental implants this past year. The last implants I had put in were in August, and when you have them put in you can't sleep on that side of your face. So yes I was sleeping on my arm. Maybe I crushed a nerve or something.. Well another mt. goes by and I still am not feeling better , the mortrin is over and the inflammation and pain is still there. I called the dr. and she said to go see an ortho being its chronic , so I am due to go this Friday.
I spoke with others and they say it says like the rotar cuff you don't neccessary feel it in the shoulder. Lately the pain is getting to me even when I put a jacket and have to move my arm I do feel the muscle tightening. Thats what I feel..
Has anyone experienced this before,? I know Donna is having problems to and she told me on FB that she was going for a steroid shot today...

Oh Gina...so sorry about your arm pain. Mine started hurting like that about 3 years ago. I finally went to the ortho dr. they ran a series of tests and I ended up having to have surgery on my arm. It would wake me up at night like my whole arm was asleep or something. They said it was called cubital tunnel syndrome. Had never heard of it. Please keep us posted.

Hi Gina,
If it is the muscle just right above the elbow, it is probably not the rotator cuff. But if it is the muscle just below the top of the shoulder (the deltoid muscle), the upper outer muscle on the top of the arm, then it probably is the rotator cuff.

Thank you Janet I went back and read Gayle's thread, Gayle it is the muscle closest to the elbow but it runs up toward shoulder.. Make sense lol
If I move a certain way I feel the muscle tighten...
Diana I am a pain in the butt lol
thanks for well wishes I will have it checked on Friday..

I hope it's not a big deal, and you feel better, Gina.
I've had a pain in my shoulder for about a year now. My chiro can't figure it out, and I don't want to go to an orthopedist.

Sorry I didn't post since I went to the dr. on Friday. Just between this sinsus infection and my arm I haven't been around here much.
Welllllllllll I went on Friday to this ortho that I got from my husbands health plan and let me tell you. I didnt care for him or the office and here are my reasons why. I am going to vent, actually this should be another thread.
For starters I was feeling lousy on Friday and I was going to cancel, but the office never returned my call so I figured let me go. I finally got the call after I left and the receptionist appoligized. DUH!
Well I was in office they put me in an examing room and told me to take my top off and put the paper gown on and she left me there. WELL I was sitting there waiting for the dr. like 20 minutes and it was freaking cold I had to put my coat on and there was no one to complain to. So I shivered for maybe 25 min until the Dr. came in. I complained to him and he said yes your right.. hardly listened to me and said you need to take an exray and left.. Talk about bedside mannners.
I was pissed now and I called the tech and told her I am not sitting in this room its freezing and she moved me to another while I had to wait for the ex ray tech to call me. That room was a trifle better not MUCH. My luck the exray machine was not working right so I had to wait . UGHHH
Anyway took the exray and the results came out I have bursitis and tendonits and have to go to phycial therapy twice a week. So now I have to find a place..
The motto of this story is most drs. today are so cold and stay about 5 minutes and dont give a crap, I was so annoyed and feel this country is going to pot.. No one cares, I came home and my daughter was home from school and I said to her when you become a dr. YOU Better listen to your patients... lol
Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Awww Gina! Your dr visit sounds horrible:eek: You are so right about uncaring drs! Seems like they are almost all like that now! I think one of the problems is that they schedule WAY too many patients for the same appt time!! Then everyone has to wait forever! It's ridiculous! I sure hope you find a good place for your pt and have a caring therapist.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! Does he think the physical therapy will help? I sure hope you feel better soon!

I completely agree re: uncaring docs. Part of the issue is IMHO, docs are tryingto make boucoups money like they used to. But to do that with today's reimbursement (docs are now paid on a schedule rather than being able to charge whatever they want as itwas in the past) they have to schedule too many patients. And when they try to see too many pts. they are tired and uncaring.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience with the doctor! I've never had a problem like that with any doctor or specialist I've seen. With that little time spent with the patient I think I would question how thorough the diagnosis is too. I hope the physical therapy helps!

Gina...I'm sorry your experience was bad. No one likes going to see a Dr. in the first place and then be treated like a number sucks. When I took Mom to her kidney Dr. on Monday, the techs were wonderful, but he wasn't even in there 3 minutes. I just don't understand. I have a feeling it's going to get much much worse.
That's awful Gina! I have to agree with Lindsey about his diagnosis. I would try to get my x-rays and get another opinion. PT is very time consuming, and even the co-payments add up if you are covered for it.
I am sorry that you had to put up with that kind of treatment!
Thank you ladies.. I didn't get a second opinion because I figure the ex ray doesn't lie. I looked up on my husbands plan and I found several PT in my area. I have to pay a co payment of $15.00 when I go which is not bad. I pay that amount for all my visits. I can't exceed 20-25 visits. Hopefully I don't need that many. I will call tomorrow and set up my first appointment. I will let you know how it goes.
I went to PT for a short time. I had finger surgery (tendonitis). I got a paraffin hand treatment, they wrapped my arm in hot, warmth for about 15 minutes, and then did some exercises. I must say, it was really nice, especially the paraffin treatment!
I left when I realized that I could use my hand easily and could do the exercises on my own. I hope your PT is as nice as mine was!
