Diana, so sorry about your computer woes! Hopefully you'll have the problem fixed soon! That would be very aggravating!

The aggravating part is that I just went through this just a while back. It's so fustrating to lose everything you have on your computer just to get it cleaned up. And this time I have porn pages that are popping up that have women with women......I'm about to throw up!!! I'm just going to take this to my friend and have him look at it again. Bummer!

He told me that AVG was the best........He lied!!!!!

Ok....I'm feeling a LOT better. I finally got something figured out where I could download some anti-virus programs. I thought that I had one but it wasn't doing the job. If you're interested this is what I put on.....My SIL says that this is what they use at his office and it's free......www.malwarebytes.org

After I did a scan it showed that I had 4 files affected and it took care of them. One was a trojan so we'll see what happens.

There's a little woman in, probably......India.....that is so lucky that I held my tongue because I was very fustrated and she didn't understand OR speak english very well. I was NOT in a very good mood to deal with her!!!! I'm not ever like that but.......today......I tell you........I just about lost my Christianity!!!! LOL

I really don't picture you being any different than I was, Gayle. Of course, I haven't seen that side of you either.

Hope your problems are over, Diana. I use Norton 360, and so far have had no problems. Knock on wood!!

Glad you got it fixed Diana. We'd be lost here w/o you. ;)

We never tried the Norton 360, but the Norton we did try wasn't worth anything, plus Norton slowed our computers waaaay down...they're always running it seems. We really like the people at Best Buy and then there is a guy that works on computers here in town and they both said Kasperky is one of the best. So....that's what we are using. I've had my laptop for awhile now and I've not had any pop-ups or viruses. Hubby did and Ricky did when they had Norton, but once we got them switched...they haven't had any more problems either. I heard another good one was AVG or something like that, but I have no experience with it.

I'd just switch over to Glen's computer. Ha Ha!!! He doesn't like for me to be on it and if I ever got a virus on it I'd be in such trouble. He has all of our farm info on there plus the church records. I'm always very careful when I'm on his computer.

I'm glad that I got it fixed too (fingers are crossed anyway)!!!! I might actually have to do some housework if my computer was down!!!!

I have used that malewarebytes when I had a trojan virus, and it took care of it right away. Now I have Bitdefender, which allows nothing in! But....it got a virus on it's own maleware, and I had to reinistall it. (Kind of like maleware AIDS). It is very annoying, because it takes a lot of time. It's always telling me to fix issues, and it slows down my computer. Actually, I hate it.

I have been quite annoyed by that very same Indian woman! I always try to be polite, because I know these workers are doing their best with English, which is a very difficult language. I also am glad that they have jobs so that they can support themselves and their families. Sometimes, though, it is impossible to solve a problem. I find that just quietly disconnecting (hanging up), works well.
Sometimes you can call back and get someone who is better with English, or even sometimes works out of Canada.

I am glad you got your problem solved!

Well, I'm back to tell you that I didn't get the problem solved so today I'm probably going to be on the phone all day with Dell. First I'm going to try and save my pictures and then I'm calling them. I'm on Glen's computer now because I'm afraid to be on mine any more than I have to. I'm so fustrated.

I use AVG and haven't had any problems... we use AVG on all of our work computers too. Which web browser do you use Diana? Internet Explorer can be terrible for pop-ups but I've found the pop-up blocker on Firefox is wayyyy better! Of course it won't FIX the problem, but will make using your computer a little more bearable in the meantime.

I don't know what web browser I use. It's probably Internet explorer but I don't have any problem with pop-ups, but when you get a trojan it just pops up anyway. You can hardly do anything without it popping up and it looks like something you need to click on to get it taken care of, which actually ends up making things worse. I hope nobody else gets this thing. I hate it!!!!1

I hope you get it fixed soon Diana. Viruses are such a pain in the 'you know where.' Even though it's going to be quite some time....I think the next computer I get will be a Mac. Hope you get someone who speaks English with Dell.

With us paying for a gold package I think I'm guaranteed that I'll speak to an American. I'm getting ready to call so we'll see.

Isn't Dell good for customer service? I have always heard that, anyway. Maybe all you need is tech support. They are usually better than customer service

I did speak to 3 different Indian customer service reps between yesterday and today, from 2 different companies. Two were excellent. One didn't get my question, but I think it was more that she was too young and inexperienced, than a language issue.

I called yesterday and got a very friendly and helpful young man. He had me up and going in no time. I even had a few other questions and he checked everything out and fixed what needed fixed. This morning I sent an e-mail with another question and he called back and did some more things to my computer. I just love it when they can take control of your computer instead of trying to lead you through the steps. The mouse just floats over the screen and clicks and just does everything!! Anyway, I'm up and running........and I highly recommend to anyone getting a computer to get the Dell Gold Package. It costs but it's definitely worth it!!!1

Isn't that the best when they do that remote thing? Is that what the gold package is? Toshiba doesn't do that.

I'm so glad your computer is running well! :):):)

The Gold package is something that guarantees you better tech support. My laptop is actually rated for small businesses so it's for businesses to get their computers fixed quickly. You get to talk to an American and there's no waiting to talk to someone. We've even had them send someone over to replace a hard drive without it costing us a cent. I'm not sure what else it covers. I've called them for all my questions.....even to help set up my printer (which is Dell too).

That is great Diana. I'm so glad you're back up and running and had such a positive experince with Dell. They do have great customer service and this just proves it. The only thing is, in my opinion....every company should have this kind of service for their products and you shouldn't have to pay for it.

I agree but sadly we don't live in the 1950's anymore. Things were built to last back then but now days things are made to only have a short lived life so you have to buy things more often. My husband has a name for that......engineered obsolescence, or things made to fall apart. It's too bad but that also applies to customer service back then people took pride in doing their best job and making things last, and treating people/customers well. Not today......We have to pay for that kind of service. It's sad.
