I posted a while back that my oldest granddaughter, Mackenzie, sang at Cafe Night at her school, and that she brought down the house. One of the girls posted videos of all of the performers.

Here is Mackenzie singing. She was getting over the swine flu, so her voice is a little scratchy.

Judy....she has a lot of talent. I'll tell you what....I'd be getting her a voice coach. She has an nice voice and range....a coach would teach her how to use her voice the best way. She's good Judy. Going back now to listen again.

AND......she's pretty too!

That was really good Judy! She is so comfortable and she does well with her breathing and making the song her own. She will be absolutely amazing when she finishes puberty

I am so proud of her! Jessie is her coach. She started singing lessons at somewhere around the same age.

I'll never forget Jessie singing "Gloria" in 7th or 8th grade at her school's talent show. The audience was full of students and they were singing along with her, clapping and dancing in their seats. It was probably the dream of any young teen who wants to be on stage! I turned to the girls behind us and asked them to please keep it down because I was her mother and I wanted to hear her. They were so sweet about it!

Mackenzie has not said that she wants to be a singer, but I am thrilled that she can perform so beautifully.

By the way, Brandon, who is now 8 1/2, does want to be an actor. He got the lead role in the 2nd grade school play. He played the turkey! Kassidy was in the chorus. She was a horse.

Well, my goodness gracious! I can see that someday I am going to be able to say, "I know their GRANDMOTHER!" How fun. I just love watching kids perform! The school I grew up in was so small we all had to be in band, chorus, basketball, 4-H, etc. in order to have enough to make a "team". I can't sing or play a lick - but I was there and I have so many fun memories of those days!

The children's school is also small, but not quite that small. But, Kassidy is a boy scout because there is no girl scout troop, and Jessie is group leader or there would be no boy scouts either! She only has 5 little boys and Kassidy.

Being so involved in their lives is keeping me young! I also love the children's activities.

HA! I love it that Kassidy is a BOY SCOUT!!! That is just too cool!

There were 12 kids in my class - 6 boys, 6 girls. We did pick up a few more when I was in high school because some of the smaller schools near us - can you believe there were smaller schools - were closed and their students were bussed to our school.

I just found Jessie's girl scout blouse and hat. Jessie is going to let Kass wear it
to the meetings,

Their school has 2 classes of about 15 to 18 children on each grade. I am not sure about the high school. I taught in small schools downstate. I could not go back to a large school once I experienced working in a small school. I think the sense of family in a small school is so much better.

This is what she was originally going to sing, but they thought that the audience wouldn't get it. It is a bit inappropriate too.

I love Sara Bareilles! She writes and sings her own songs. The song Mackenzie sang, SB wrote because they wanted her to write a love song, and she didn't want to! It sounds like she is talking to a guy, but na ah.
