What's your weather like this week? We are in the 70's in Austin. I like it better than the 20's we had a couple of weeks ago! :D

Ours is like yours. But I enjoy the little bit of cold we have in the winter. It doesn't last long:p

We were at 55 today. I think we are supposed to get rain tomorrow. But the warmer temps are wonderful! Our temps have been way below avg so far so I am happy with a little warmer days:)

I like the cold too Betis - in fact 70's is a bit warm right now for my taste. I didn't like the 20's, but I wouldn't mind the 50's or low 60's, rather than 70's which feels too warm right now.

We've had a warm spell here lately. All of the snow melted while we were in Nebraska.....and left a really muddy mess!!! My tahoe looks just awful but there's no sense in washing it since we live on gravel roads!! Our weather for today is around 50* but we're suppose to get rain tonight and some bad weather this weekend. I would prefer to just have snow!!!! Sorry, Janet!!!!
It was in the high 30's today, and sunny. What a beautiful day! Sunny days are really precious up here because the winter is usually long and not sunny. We have had some beauties though in the past couple of weeks.
When I listen to the local weather, I still get confused. Down in Brooklyn, the weather was the same all over the city. Up here, they go by counties, there is lake effect snow (something to do with water being picked up by the air from the lakes), and the weather really differs depending upon your elevation.
So, basically, I get snow pretty much every day, at least in the morning. Then, it either snows some more, or the sun comes out. It was 19 degrees this morning, and then heated up. Once I get down the hill onto the highway, and into town, the snow has been cleared and it is warmer.
The good thing is that it is so beautiful in the mountains when it snows. They also do a really good job of cleaning the roads so getting around is fine.
Janet, I hope your ice melts soon! Stay safe!
We have been hitting 38 to 42 degrees and after being so brutally cold this feels like a heat wave and I hope it stays this way , with no snow in the forecast.

It has been way above normal here, with daytime highs hovering around the freezing point, and then dropping below freezing overnight. It's really been beautiful! Unfortunately those kinds of temperatures cause black ice on the roads, and there have been tons of accidents. Yesterday on the freeway, a car lost control and jumped the median to hit oncoming traffic head-on... a 19 year old girl died instantly and a 30 year old man is still in critical condition. Traffic was backed up through the whole city  I'm driving very carefully!
How sad Lindsey! I'm sure you are careful....go slow, and stay safe!!!

The ice is still melting here but we did have school. Paved roads are clear, but gravel roads are still icy and slick. It has gotten up to 40* the last couple days, but feels much colder because we've had some wind too.
They are calling for lots of rain this weekend, maybe even some thunder and lightning. I want spring and I want it now. My bus hardly looks yellow and my van is a dirt color instead of gray. No since washing them...I have quite a few gravel roads and they are wet and dirty.
At least the ice will melt!

The weather sure is weird... we had such warm temperatures until yesterday when a winter storm blew in. I wouldn't have left the house if it wasn't for Scott's Christmas party (a little late lol). We called a cab to be here to pick us up at 5:10, but it didn't show up until at least 5:45 because of the weather. On our way home after the party, there were cars stuck EVERYWHERE! City buses weren't even running today because they were getting stuck. Cars and even trucks have been getting stuck in the parking lot all day. The maintenance people haven't done a thing to plow out or snowblow the lot  Tonight we'll have to go out and shovel out our cars so we can get to work in the morning.

When I got up this morning at 8:00 it was 48 degrees. It got up to 52 so I opened a few windows and let the house air out a bit. Feels so much better in here. Anyway....now it's 38 degrees. Wish the weather would make up it's mind.....and stay warmer! :)

I'm jealous!
My brother took 3 hours to shovel out his small driveway yesterday afternoon. Scott went out last night to shovel our cars out, and it took over an hour. This morning there was another few inches covering my car. Right behind my car to one side was a huge pile of snow, probably 5 feet high, so I had to maneuver around that and back through about 2 feet of snow all the way to the main path. I got stuck once, but got myself out of it. Most of the streets haven't been plowed yet, so it was a very slow and slippery drive to work. Thank goodness for winter tires! Cars and buses have gotten stuck on roads all over the city this morning  The office is buzzing with everyone's drive to work stories this morning!

We had warm temps last week and over the weekend but it has rained almost everyday. Today we started out at around 40 and now it's in the low 30's and is suppose to snow tonight and tomorrow.
I too wish the weather would make up it's mind!!

Well, it's been snowing here on and off all day with a good strong wind. It started out in the 30's but the temp is dropping. I'm still looking for spring....just can't find it yet.

Janet, I think you need to find a cheap flight and meet me in Mexico in a few weeks :D Cheap food, cheap drinks... we can sit on the beach and drink pina coladas all day! Hey, why doesn't everyone come! I think most of us need a break from the cold!

We're suppose to get 6-10 inches of snow starting Thursday afternoon and going through to Friday!!! Of course, most of it is suppose to come during the night.......I hate not being able to watch it out of the windows!!!

Suppose to be in the single digits for the next week or so. That is just too darn cold for anyone!!!
I'm not sure what the weather will be. I do know that I can see my deck, and my front lawn because of the rain a couple of days ago. I never rolled up the outdoor carpets on the deck, so they are now frozen, lumped together, and too heavy to move. They were never meant to be out their anyway. I had bought them for inside, but the dogs thought they gigantic were pee pads.
Like I said, the weather reports up here confuse me. I do know that it snowed this morning, and probably will snow tomorrow morning.

We are supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow from tomorrow evening through Saturday!! I don't mind as long as we don't have to get out in it. It's supposed to be powdery so hopefully no power lines will come down.

It's been up and down this week.
It is not snowing!!! And, the sun is out! The grass is no longer visible though, nor is my deck. I guess yesterday's snow covered it. There were fierce squalls, with huge snowflakes and zero visibility yesterday. It was so beautiful.
I am glad that my winter wonderland is back. It is not pretty up here in the winter when the everything is not covered with snow .
I let Max out on the deck yesterday in the snow. He loved it, and came in all white. He looked so cute! Annie would not go out, although she wanted to. She kept on darting her little face out and then running back inside. I picked her up and she smelled the air, then turned her little head away.
I was going to take a picture of Max, but didn't want him tracking up the dfloor, so I dried him off instead. Darn floor!

I know it's suppose to stay cold over the weekend, but I don't care....I'm grooming the dogs tomorrow (I hope I'm in the mood) so I'll be inside anyway.

Well since last night....we have gotten about 8 inches of snow!! It's very pretty but it is so darn cold outside that I don't even want to go out and take pics. Did any of you get snow this weekend?

It is just nasty here. Snow has almost all melted. Eveything is just an ugly, muddy mess and more bad weather forecasted for the weekend. I am so ready for spring!

It has rained here for two days straight! And it's COLD too! It is supposed to clear off tomorrow and have sunshine for the weekend. IT BETTER!
It is really sunny up here today. I heard about lots of snow down near New Jersey, Washington, and so on for today.
Are you snowed in Gina? Becky, how about you? Anyone else?
It's already the first week in February.....Spring should start in 6 - 8 weeks for most of you. My spring may be a bit later. I was watching somebody on TV showing how to begin spring flowers inside now. It looked like a really nice thing to do, especially when you have cabin fever from being inside during the winter.
I think I should wait a few more weeks though. We have to thaw out first and then I can put plants outside.
Somebody was telling me about patio tomato plants. Anybody know anything about them?
Lindsey
02-05-2010, 08:01 AM
I plant tomatoes in little planters on my deck every year. I think this year I may look at other veggies to grow too... as long as they don't need to go too deep. Summer starts pretty late here so my tomatoes aren't usually ready until September. I might plant a little earlier this year and just make sure to keep them inside in the evenings and overnight when it gets frosty.
And on that note, it's still freezing here! Although, not as cold as it has been. I didn't plug in my car last night and it started up this morning with no problem. In the next couple of weeks it's supposed to get to around the freezing point, so above normal for this time of year. But, I see that Mazatlan, Mexico is sitting around the 28 degree mark (82 F) lately, so that will be a nice break :D I'm counting down... 13 more days!

I know you can't wait to get to sunny Mexico, Lindsay!!! You will have so much fun!
Speaking of tomatoes - yes, you can grow them on your patio, Judy. Just be sure to buy the determinant plants (as opposed to indeterminant plants). Determinant plants do not get so large and can easily be grown in containers.
Guess what! I have broccoli and cauliflower in my garden right now!! Can you believe it!!!
I planted a broccoli and cauliflower plant, one each, last fall and they just didn't do much of anything at all - didn't grow much. I think it rained so much this fall/winter, it stunted their growth or drowned them :p Anyway, I didn't protect them from the freezing temps a few weeks ago, and they kind of wilted down but then I noticed they perked up when it warmed up and the sun came out. I looked down at them last week and there are 5 broccoli crowns growing and one good sized cauliflower head. Whooo Hooo!!! I'm going to plant lots of them this fall now that I know they will make it though the winter, even when it gets below freezing.
OK, now does anyone have any good broccoli and cauliflower recipes???? :p
