View Full Version : Car accident, but I am fine

I am fine...but I was driving to my writers group this morning, and skidded off the road, into a ditch, and the car flipped over! It was in slow motion it seemed like.

I was fine, but disoriented as to where the door handle was so that I could get out of the car. I immediately turned off the ignition, just in case of fire, and starting honking on the horn to be noticed. f

I was on a well traveled highway, so 2 men were there right away. They got me out through the window, and waited with me for the police, ambulance, etc. There was no reason to go to the hospital, and I signed a release. Then, I had to wait for a tow truck, and a state trooper fillled out the accident report. The ahole gave me a ticket for "speed not reasonable or prudent!" I was going about 40 in a 55.
Anyway, I started to argue with him about it, and then dropped it. I can deal with that later.

What I am concerned with now is whether or not my car is totaled or if it can be drivable. The roof is a bit dented - nothing I would fix, and the side window blew out. It has to sit for a day or so to allow all of the fuels to settle before he can tell. He said he didn't like the way the shift stick was moving.

I called my own mechanic to go over and pick up the car, since I don't know this mechanic. So far, the towing cost $176.

I postponed the delivery from Home Depot of the flooring I had ordered. If I need a new car, or expensive repairs, I am just going to cancel the floor.

I am upset right now because if the car is totaled, I am going to have to rush into buying another car. I know exactly what I want, and do not want to have to settle just because I need a car.

Actually, I am very, very fortunate that I wasn't hurt at all! I also fell on the ice yesterday, and the only thing that hurts from that is my back muscles. I probably twisted my back when I fell. All in all, I have to say that there is an angel by my side!!!

OMG Judy! Thank goodness you weren't hurt. You are a very lucky girl! Oh I'm so glad those two men were there right away! I bet you were so scared! Seems like when something like this happens, it does seem to happen in slow motion.

Hopefully your car can be repaired and you can drive it for a while longer until you decide on your new car. I just hate having to make hasty decisions because of something that just happens.
Yes the cop was an ahole. Hopefully you can get that ticket thrown out.

I didn't know you fell yesterday, glad you weren't badly hurt.

You definitely have an angel watching out for you girl!!

Oh wow Judy, glad it was not too serious, i really understand what you mean about it appearing to be happening in slow motion..... i felt the same when i had an accident.

It was good news that you got some help/assistance.. Take some time to rest up a bit, as you will be in shock.....

Goodness JUDY! I'm SO GLAD you were not hurt. I can't imagine how scary that must have been. I'm so glad someone was right there and helped you get out of the car. I know you will be very sore tomorrow - not to mention your fall yesterday. This is not your week, my dear. I think, perhaps, you should just stay inside where it is warm and cozy, for the rest of the week!

Keep us posted!

Judy...your post scared me. I am so thankful that you are all right and thanked God before I even started typing this. I've been through that slow-motion before too. Very strange don't you think? I wouldn't settle for just any car either. Get what you want this time...one that will last you a long time. Having your own mechanic look at it is a good idea...at least you trust him.

Maybe even have him look over what car you may be interested in unless it's a new one. I've always wanted at least one new car with the new car smell, but it's not going to happen.

Take your time and get what you really want. I'm so glad you're okay....now stay that way!!

I'm so thankful that you weren't seriously hurt! Like Gayle said, I bet you get really sore. I think a long, hot bubble bath is in order;)

Maybe your car will be an easy fix! I'm sorry you had to cancel your flooring. Hopefully it won't be as bad as you think.

Sorry that your floors have to be postponed and that your back may have been injured in the chaos.

Very glad you are okay! I have my fingers and toes crossed your car is drivable and that it isn't too costly to repair whatever issues it may have (((((hugs)))))

Take it easy with your back Judy, babying it wouldn't hurt. Back injuries can be funny, you can be layed out all of a sudden when you thought you were fine.

I kind of have to take it easy. Having no car, and living on top of a mountain, I am stuck in the house, or I can go for a walk around here.

Anyway, I should know today or tomorrow whether or not my car is drivable. My mechanic picked it up late yesterday. He said that the roof concerns him because it could leak. I don't need the car for too long. I have decided to cancel the floor and start looking for a replacement car.

If need be, I can rent a car for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping I can get a good deal on a rental. I had to do that once and I only took a week to find a car I really loved.

I am still upset, but I think that is just a physical reaction to the adrenalin rush I had, and because I hate not knowing where I stand. Do I need to rent a car, where do I go look for a new one, and so on.

The accident sounds a lot worse than it was. All that really happened was that I skidded off the road. The fact that the car flipped was not due to a bad crash, but because I went into a ditch, and gravity took the car over.

Thank you all for your caring! You are such good friends!

Judy, I'm so glad to hear that you're alright!!! What a scare!! I've had accidents that went in slow motion too, isn't it a weird feeling? Thank goodness the men were there to help you out of the car. I'm sure you were in shock at what had happened.

I'm sorry that you have to postpone your flooring but you'll probably be happier taking care of that after you get a different car then you can decide if you still want to go ahead with it right now or not. I hope you're able to find what you want quickly and in good shape. I just hate being without a car!!! Thank goodness you have a mechanic that you trust to help you out!!

I'm so glad that you're alright!! You are keeping your guardian angel on her toes!!!

Judy thank God that you are ok.. The most important matter is that your fine.. I understand about the car and that sucks.. I hope they can repair so you can buy what you like and not be rushed. Renting sounds good in the meantime if you have no choice...

Stay in and pamper yourself you had a rough few days... Feel better...
