I am sure you all remember what we went through with my mom and the nurseing home and everything.
Well she was diagnosed about 6yrs ago with a disease called Sarcoidosis, which has to due with the immune system, well it has effected different parts of her body, mainly her eyes, she has been blind in 1 eye since a little girl so she has always been cautious with her good eye, well with everything that has happened to her we let a year and a half go by without going to her specialist, we went today and it was not good news, her good eye is as bad if not worse then it was when she first went to him, he was not happy, he had worked so hard to stablize the disease in her eye and was happy with her outcome the last time he had seen her that we could go 6 months in between visits. So now we are back at square one and he's not so sure he can get her back to where she was, also he mentioned maybe having to do lazer surgery, but we did not get into that till we see how far he can turn this around. She is back on a high dose of Perdnisone 60mg and will tapper down if there is progress, she has been on prednisone since she first went to him and he got her to a point that he was happy with, she will have to be on it for life, and i am sure you all know what a steroid does to your body. So we go back in 2 weeks. I feel so bad that i did not get her back to see him sooner, I had taken her to an eye Dr for new glasses and she could barely get through that, she has been doing so good these past few months except not being able to see well, she has floaters on her eye and it's just hard for her to see, along with all kinds of other debrie (sp) in her eye. So thats where we are at now, I know it could be worse, but she is terrifed of going blind. Thanks for letting me ramble, i'm feeling alot of guilt for not getting her there sooner.

I'm really sorry about your mom. Try not to blame yourself. We all do the best we can at the time. I hope the steroids help her. I'll keep her in my prayers!

Lynne....you have been helping your Mom so much in so many other ways. We're human...we can't remember everything all the time. I remember how concerned you were about getting her meds straightened around and it was almost a full-time job doing that for you.

Hopefully the Dr. can get her back to what he is happy with and she won't lose anymore of her sight. You know where I'm at if ya need to talk.

It is so hard Lynne! I am sure you were busy doing other things to take care of her that were priorities at the time. You will get her through this. I hope the doctor can safe her eyesight. I have had lasik and it is not at all painful, just the thought of it is scary. It takes a second, and it is over. They can give her valium to calm her down.

Please don't feel guilty. You are a wonderful daughter!

I'm praying for your Mom too Lynne. Hopefully the meds will help.
Don't beat yourself up, we do the best we can. Sometimes there is so much going on that some things just get looked over.
We are not perfect. We are human.
I'm sure you are a wonderful daughter:) Hugs to you Lynne.

As the others have said, Lynne, you're doing the best that you can. It's hard to take care of your family plus the added care of your Mother. Don't let it get you down.....you're a good daughter!! Hopefully the doctor will be able to get things back to where they were. I'll be praying!! Hugs!!!

Hi Lynne,
Since I was gone, I'm just seeing this today. Do you have an update on your mom? I hope she is doing better!

Lynne, how is your Mom?

Thank you Diana for asking about my mom. she is suppose to go back to the eye Dr. this Thursday but not sure she will make it, depends on the weather.
Otherwise she is doing good, being on such a high dose of Perdnisone it makes her sugar run very high, sometimes 300-400 and has been even higher than that when she was takeing care of her own meds, they are watching her closley where she lives and adjusting her insulin to keep it down, it mostly runs high in the afternoon. They will taper down some this week and continue to taper her down to a dose that will keep her eyes stable, providing it works this time.
we still have a long road ahead of us to see if it will work, i just wish this weather would cooperate so we could make her app., her Dr is about 60 miles away in Indy and i hate driving in the snow, her brother may take her instead.

Hope you're able to make the appt. with your Mom. Hopefully the main highways will be okay by Friday. Mom has an appt. with the heart dr. on Friday too. We may have to reschedule.

I hope both of you make your appointments with your Moms. So much worry, and snow too!

You are both such good daughters.

Gosh! I hope the snow doesn't prevent her from getting to the appt. I sure hope the predinisone helps! I know what you mean by it messing up the blood sugar. Gary was on prednisone for several months last year and it about drove us CRAZY! He had to take so much extra insulin!!!

Lynne, at least your Mother's in a place where they can monitor her blood sugar instead of you having to do it all the time. It sounds like they're taking good care of her!! You're a good daughter and I hope that your Mom appreciates all the good care and love you have for her.
