We decided to have a small garage sale yesterday - we only had few things, and the major reason was to sell my mom's couch and matching glider rocker. I've had them in my living room since she moved here in 2001 - the couch was cloth and I COULD NOT get my Yorkie boys to stop peeing on the bottom skirt. I finally put heavy plastic all the way around it and they just peed on the plastic!
I had an old couch down at the deer lease - it is a Cargo solid wood frame and just has 4 wooden legs at the floor level. When we closed down the deer camp, I brought the couch home because it is easier to clean up sprinkles around the legs (and so far they haven't done that) and there is no cloth for it to get on and STINK! So, we needed to sell mom's couch and matching glider rocker.
Brooke sold a TV last week on Craig's list, but they had so many scammers, and then people that would say they were coming to get the TV and never show up. So, I decided I didn't want to mess with CL and just sell the couch/rocker in a garage sale. It was over 10 years old, but in good shape (excepting the Yorkie sprinkles).
So, we set everything up for our sale in THIRTY FOUR DEGREE WEATHER (which is very old for us :p). We had a few other things and everything except the couch sold quickly. No one was really very interested in it and I was only asking $100, then $50, then $25, then "make offer" and yet no one wanted it.
We were tired in early afternoon, so we just set it by the curb and put a "free" sign on it. About an hour later the doorbell rang and a man asked if the couch was really free. I said, "yep", and he was so happy. He said that his brother had just lost everything in a house fire and he was going to take the couch to him. There was even a bonus, as the couch was a sleeper (albeit, not a very comfortable sleeper)
I was so happy. I think it was fate that we didn't sell the couch so that we could give it away to someone who really needed it. I was much more happy than if I had gotten $100 for it!!!!
