Has anyone been watching?

These are the first I've really been into since Salt Lake City in 2002 (I was in high school... I had time to watch tv lol!). I loved the opening ceremony this year! It really made me proud of my country. Well, except the little technical difficulty with the big torch inside! The final torchbearer was a big mystery but I had a feeling it would be Gretzky!

Before this year, Canada has never won gold at home. We won our first gold in men's moguls on the weekend :) Hopefully it won't be the only one.

We're hoping we can find a place showing the hockey games in Mexico next week! 12 of us are going down and I think every one of us is bringing a jersey in support of our team :)

So what do you think of the Olympics? What are your favorite events to watch?

Oh Lindsay! I love the olympics and I thought the opening ceremony was one of the most beautiful I had ever seen. The white was mystical. The light show was out of this world. I loved the whales and the doves and so many other things too! Of course, I LOVED the snow, since we don't have any! LOL!!! The whole opening ceremony had me transfixed!

I watch the olympics every night. I love the skiing, skating, snowboarding and just about everything about the winter olympics.

I was so glad that a Canadian won a gold on Canadian soil! That made me very happy as I'm sure it did you too!

I think Canada is doing a wonderful job this year - I love Vancouver and have many fond memories of that city, so I'm really enjoying watching!

We won another gold today! Woohoo!

Right now we're switching channels between men's hockey and men's figure skating. The women's hockey team is doing great, but the men are playing terribly tonight :( It's still 0-0 and we're playing Norway!

I feel bad for Vancouver because this is the warmest winter they've had in over 100 years! The media up here is reporting how upset a lot of other countries are about coming to a winter olympics in a city with no snow... they're having to bring in loads of snow from other areas.

I'm glad you enjoyed the opening ceremony Gayle :) I like how they showed things from all parts of Canada. The golden fields of wheat were my area :D

Phew! 6-0 halfway through the third period. THAT's more like it!
Scratch that! 7-0! :D

That's great! What was it in? I've not been able to watch any olympic coverage today.

You know, that's just the way it goes! Some people are having the coldest winter in 100 years and Vancouver just the opposite. It all looks just great though!!!

I knew that Lindsay! I was thinking about you when I saw the wheat! I'm from flat wheat country too, in Oklahoma!

It was in women's snowboard cross. Maelle Ricker had a huge lead for the whole run. So we now have Canada's first man AND first woman to win gold at home! What a great accomplishment for both of them!

That's just great! You are right, it is a great accomplishment for both Canadian women and men! How did the hockey game turn out?

Oh WOW Lindsay!!! That was a rout! I'll root for Canada - unless they play the U.S., of course!

GO CANADA!!!

Keep me posted on metals and events!

Lol thanks Gayle! The women's team beat Slovakia 18-0, and beat Switzerland 10-1. On the USA side, the women beat China 12-1, and beat Russia 13-0. The men beat Switzerland 3-1. I bet on the women's side it will be a Canada-USA final :) For the men, I think it's a toss-up between USA, Canada, and Russia.

Uh Oh! We may have to get on our boxing gloves, if the U.S. and Canada go head to head! ;)

Sorry I haven't been able to check back yet :) Had a late night, 113 new emails, parents in town for the rest of the weekend... hectic!

I'm glad to report I was able to watch the women's Canada vs USA game on the airplane home last night, and the whole entire plane erupted in cheers when we got the gold!

The men won their game last night, so the gold medal game against the USA will be on Sunday. To be quite honest, I don't think we stand a chance

I've been watching the curling and that's interesting. I finally had to look up the rules so I could understand it better. Canada's done very well and will probably take the gold in that as well.

We took gold tonight in men's curling :) Lost last night and only got silver in women's curling. For never winning gold before at Olympics at home, we are now TIED for the most golds ever won at a home Olympics! We are leading right now in gold medals, but third place for overall medals. Tomorrow afternoon is Canada vs. USA in men's hockey for the gold. I'm pretty sure USA will win, but I have my fingers crossed anyway :D
Did any of you hear about Russia's president canceling his trip to Vancouver for the closing ceremonies? Apparently he was upset about the Russian hockey team not doing very well (they are usually a very strong team... Ovechkin plays for Russia and he is one of the top players in the NHL right now). Canada beat them badly last week, and he is so upset he won't even come anymore.

Oh yeah, I just want to say I'm so glad I know so many nice Americans, because last week I finally experienced a group of Americans that gives you guys such a bad rep to the rest of the world  We were all at the bar at our hotel watching the USA vs Canada game, with a whole bunch of other Canadians. A group of Americans sat down in the corner, oblivious to the game even being on. When Canada scored to tie the game and the crowd erupted in cheers, they thought it would be funny to start belly aching about how that goal should have never counted blah blah blah because it would be funny to upset a crowd of people wearing maple leafs. My dad was good-hearted and said "Well it was a good goal, but all we did was tie it up. It's still anyone's game!" ... For every Canadian save, they BOOOOOOOO'd, and for every Canadian penalty, they cheered! As soon as the USA scored one more goal, they were so loud, and one guy stood up and screamed "WE ARE THE BEST!!!!" And with that, they ran out of the bar without even watching the rest of the game. Everyone was pretty disgusted, including the Mexican bartender! Sportsmanship.... too bad not everyone was born with that. Canada lost the game, but still made it to the gold medal round. I'm super proud of my country, but I don't think anyone needs to be that arrogant. I'm proud of every country that has won any medals!

What a bunch of jerks! They should be forced to hang out with the Russian president. How childish he is being!

One of the NYC news anchors was wearing red, maple leaf mittens that someone had sent him from Canada. I think that's so cool! I would wear a Canadian scarf. It is very exciting that you guys are winning, especially with the Olympics in your own country!

We Americans love to tease Canadians, but we do share the same continent, and we really do love Canada!

GO CANADA!!!

Judy, I have some of those mittens too :) They were made by HBC (Hudson Bay Company... oldest company in Canada) for these Olympics. Scott's mom works at an HBC store so she got them for me as soon as they came in. They're sold out everywhere! I'd be glad to send you a Canadian scarf! I'll keep an eye out for one :)

The men's final hockey game is starting in just a few minutes. We're just getting all settled in on the couch!

WOW! What a game! USA tied it up with only 24 seconds left in the game, and then Canada scored in overtime. This is our 14th gold medal... the most gold EVER won by a single country in Olympic history! For never winning a single gold at home before, this was definitely our year. I am stunned! What a great ending to the games!

LOL! Thanks Betsi :) It was like revenge from the USA gold in world junior hockey! But really it could have gone either way, USA played a great game! I was so worried in overtime because we hadn't scored since the first period.

I'm glad the women and men both won gold in hockey! For most Canadians, it's the biggest event in the Olympics. The way the men had been playing, I didn't think they had a chance. Boy did they pull it together tonight! I never thought the women would have a problem though. I wanted to share this picture I saw on facebook today before the game :)

Hi Lindsay! It's good to hear your account of watching the game! It was a great one, for sure!

I liked the closing ceremony too! I have really enjoyed seeing and learning so much more about Canada during these games!!!
