I've got a spot in the flea market!!!! I'm so excited!! It's not a booth but shelf area. I went in on Friday to see how much longer it was going to be because I thought that I was second on the list but I found out that I was actually 6th. I wasn't very happy and was telling the owner how excited I was and that I had been getting things to go in already. He told me that he could rent me a shelf for $5 and I thought "Ok, I can work with a shelf. It will help me to get a few things out and at least get started. Then as we talked I realized that it wasn't a "shelf" but a place to sit a shelf!!! I asked how big and pointed to one sitting nearby. I was surprised that I could put in shelves of that size!!! So I went to a nearby new/used furniture store and bought an antique looking display cabinet. You know....the kind that locks and has the curved glass that looks antique. I got a good price on a used one. I was really wanting something that locks because I know that in a flea market there's a lot of things that get shoplifted and since I'm wanting to do antique toys I want to be cautious. So....anyway....I'm busy pricing things to take in this week. The furniture store will probably deliver it today so it should be ready tomorrow!!! I'm so excited!!!!

CONGRATS!!!!! I'm so happy for you Diana!! I know how excited you must be. That would be fun to do something like that. A little extra money on the side wouldn't be bad either:p more to buy baby gifts:D
I hope your toys sell good! I bet they will!!
Keep us posted!!
BTW........what kinds of antique toys do you have? That cabinet sounds like the perfect thing to keep them in too.

I've pulled out a lot of stuff from my own collection. Things that I have duplicates of, things that wasn't quite what I was wanting, and things that I'm ready to get rid of. I've also been buying quite a bit of stuff on ebay. I've got quite a bill run up so I really hope that this ends up being profitable!! Glen's keeping an eye on things......he's so very cautious.....so I'm sure that I'll hear if it's not making a profit.
I collect old children's candlesticks so I'm selling quite a lot of them. I've bought some old children's washboards. I have them hanging on my wall in the utility room. They'll be hard for me to sell since I like them so much but they're something that I think people will buy. I also have some old children's dishes that are duplicates and well, just a lot of things!!! I'll take a picture of my shelf when I go in to set it up!!
This is exciting Diana! The display cabinet sounds nice, and I can't wait to see pictures!
When are you going to sell at your "shelf?" Pretty fancy shelf too! Probably be the prettiest display there! Is this a weekend flea market?

I was wanting to know the same thing. Do you just take your stuff in and leave it or do you stay? Remember that flea market we went to in Lafayette? There were all these "booths", but no one manned them? Is it like that? I'm anxious for the pictures too.

This flea market is open, I think, every day. Mike, the owner, told me that they'll even stay open later if they have customers coming in. This is not a flea market where I have to be there. It's one where I rent space and mark all of my stuff with a number and they take care of all of the paperwork. My rent and commission will come out of what I make at the beginning of each month. For my shelf space it's going to cost me $5 and 15% of what I sell. The percentage is a little high but the $5 is pretty cheap. My shelf is suppose to get to the store today so I'm going to try and get things priced and ready to take in tomorrow. The store's not very big but Mike has said that he's had a really good response to it!! That's cool!!!
There's an antique store like that nearby. It's only open Friday through Sunday, when the weekenders come up. It's great!!!
People have their areas set up, and you just browse through and whoever is running the place gets your item, rings it up, and so on.
It is a wonderful idea Diana! Customers get to see all kinds of different things - there are so many things to look at there! The vendors probably do give them a hefty commission, but they never really have to be there.
I just bought a signed oil painting there for $18.97! The vendor was having a sale. The woman who was running the store and I were so surprised when she took it down and we saw that it was an oil painting. It's really pretty.

Diana! I think it is so great that you have a "shelf" at the flea market. That will be so much fun! I've always said when I retire, I want to be the little gray haired lady that runs the flea market! I think it would be so much fun to be surrounded by all those neat antiques and collectibles everyday!!!
I can't wait to hear how it goes! If I were near, I'd definitely be in there shopping! It sounds like my kinda place!!!

It sounds like the same kind of place where I bought those vases last year. The one I got those from is called the Peddler's Mall. The vendors don't have to be there either. There is all kinds of stuff there, anything you can think of. They even have shopping carts! They are open everyday just like a regular store. I just love going there! You never know what you might find!

I hope your shelf unit was delivered and I am anxiously awaiting pictures of your booth. I just know you'll have it looking irresistable to the buyer. You'll do just great, I know it.

I took some of my stuff in yesterday and I totally forgot about taking a picture. I got to visiting with the owner and then some friends came in. The owner closes down from 1 to 5 o'clock because he drives a school bus. I offered to come in and work at those times a couple of days a week. He said that he'd think about it. He said that right now that he really doesn't have money to hire anyone but I told him that we could probably work something out. I would really enjoy working at a place like that and it would get me out of the house a little bit.
I'm excited!! I hope that my stuff starts selling. I know that I do have things priced high but my stuff is antique children's stuff so we'll see.....
It is exciting! If you price high, sometimes that can give you bargaining room.

Working there Diana would be fun I think. Maybe instead of paying you he could lower the percentage he takes from you. I'm sure you'll think of something. Now go get your camera and take a picture of it.....I wanna see!!!

I know....I haven't been back in. I'm setting up a booth on a site called Bonanzle.com and I'm going to have my things in both areas. If I sell something on line I'll go in and get it and mail it out. This is set up like e-Bay except you don't bid and it doesn't cost hardly anything. It doesn't cost anything until you sell something and then it's not much.....like $1 for a $100 sale. I'm still in the process of setting my booth up.....trying to figure out the shipping really slowed me down so I just upped my price and I'll pay for the shipping......Hopefully, that will be easy....fingers crossed!!!!
I'm hoping to make it in this week to put some more things in my booth. I'll take pictures when I do.
