He went to the rainbow bridge today. Poor mom, she is just heartbroken - even though she's known for a few weeks that this would likely happen soon.
As mentioned in the other thread, he got better after the last visit to the vet, no more bloody diarrhea. But last Friday they started finding random blood drops on the floor - but he was still eating and acting fine. Then yesterday they found a LARGE pool of bright red blood on the floor - so they took him to the vet today and while in the office he had a LARGE BM of dark old blood. Between the two blood events, he had lost a lot of blood - his abdomen was very swollen and painful. The vet said it was either cancer or organ failure - both of which were going to result in the same outcome. Mom made the decision she didn't want him to suffer a painful death - so he went peacefully to the great beyond.
It is so hard. The vet was almost beside himself because the patient right before Rusty had to be put down too. So, back to back futile cases and upset families were almost too much for him. I wasn't there so mom and my daughter had to handle it. They did good, but WHEW! it is hard.
