Hey all! I would like to ask that you say a little prayer for my mom. She has had MAJOR deterioration in her knee joints to where she's at the point she either has to have total knee replacement surgery or just deal with the pain. She has had arthritis for years and it has now gotten to the point it is difficult for her to get around, even getting in her vehicle to drive has become a chore. My mom is overweight and the added weight has not helped with her knees so if she decides to have surgery, she has been told by her physician that she can expect to be in the hospital for at least a month working with rehab to walk again. She is 72 years young and not sure she wants to go through with the surgery and the weeks of rehab she will need to endure. To top it off, the MRI she had done last week shows a larger baker's cyst around her knee. She has an appointment with the orthopedist in town to discuss her options with him - would it help if she at least had the cyst removed, benefits/risks of surgery at her age and weight, and so forth. Could you please say a little prayer that she makes the best decision for her and her health after all options are presented to her? She is a widow and my younger brother lives at home and can help her out but there is no way she will be able to recover at home so if she has the surgery, she will be "out" for at least a month!! This is a decision only she can make and my prayer is that God guides her to the one best suited for her.

Thank you - I'm glad to read from someone else's experience or knowledge of someone who had this done. She won't make her decision until after she sees her orthopedist next week. I will keep everyone posted.

And thank you all for your prayers:) They truly mean alot!

I will continue to pray for her until she is feeling better! There are so many advances in medicine these days that if she decides to have the surgery, I am sure she will make a quick recovery. I good friend of my family who is 85 years young just had a hip replacement and she is doing very well. I will also pray for her doctors that they will do the best they can to help her. (((((((((hugs))))))))

Will definitely keep your mother in my prayers. I hope she gets some positive info at her appointment. That's a big decision to make at her age and a lot to go thru. My husband's mother had knee replacement at age 80 and we took care of her during the recovery. It was rough, but she gets around fine now.

I too said a prayer for your mom.

I know several people who have had knee replacement done and most have done very well after. As with any surgery, there are risks, but if she wants quality in her life and wants to keep in good health otherwise, she needs to be able to walk. I hope this works out well for her!
