View Full Version : Positive energy needed
Hi guy's, if you can send prayers or positive energy to a dear friend of mine. She gave birth about a couple of weeks ago and the baby was having difficulty breathing. I don't know the whole scope but the baby had an open hearth surgery yesterday. From the details she gave me I think it was a bypass and most likely a few other repairs.
My friend is very devastated and I feel horrible not knowing how to comfort her. She tells me she hates looking at her baby with all those tubes and IV stuck in her. I can only imagine what she's going through.
If any of you have any sugestions in way's I can be of assistance to her will be greatly appreciated.

Just be with her. She just needs comfort and support. Her dreams of the perfect baby are gone, and it is hard to think about her baby not being perfect. I hope the baby will be OK, I'm not sure about the prognosis, but hopefully this surgery will fix the problem. It is very common for parents to not be able to look at their baby with all the tubes and equipment. It hurts too much. She will probably come around, the nursery nurses should know how to help her be more comfortable around the baby. It is so hard!

It's so sad when things like this happen to babies. Starting out so rough, it must be terribly hard on your friend. Praying all goes well for this baby and your friend.

your friend and baby are in my prayers. I hope everything is going good for them now and it's a speedy recoveryfor all.
It is so hard when a tiny one is sick. I am praying for the baby and her family, and hopefully, it will be behind them soon.
My grandson started out in NICU and had a rough first year. No surgeries, thank goodness, but he was tested for all kinds of scary things. He is (thank God!)
fine, It all just was over after the first year. I am hoping your friend has the same wonderful outcome.

How is your friend's baby doing now? I hope much better.
Our twin granddaughters were born two months early and had all the tubes and different things done to them so I can understand what she's going through. I'm sure that by this time your friend would love some company and maybe a meal taken to her and her family. I know that my son and his wife spent so much time at the hospital and were staying at a Ronald McDonald house that a nice warm homemade meal was very welcome.
Thank you guys for your prayers and positive energy. Yesterday both the baby and mom went home. I went to visit for a little while since I know mommy was tired for spending a whole month in the hospital.
I was so happy for them :D
Gayle I have a question for you (or anyone in the medical field). I train to give CPR to infants but in her case since she had open heart surgery I would be scare to do compressions on her. From what I know compressions are more ideal than breaths but will breaths be sufficient? I do hope that won't be necessary but I would like to be prepare. Her mom and I were wondering about that  I don't know if it matters but unless she had inside stitches I just saw the use of Dermabond.
Good that they went home! I hope the baby is okay.

Thanks, baby looked like a perfectly normal baby when I went to visit. :D
She has a good appetite also.

Jessica, I don't know anything about babies and CPR at all, but that is a very good question for the baby's pediatrician!
I'm so glad she got to go home and seems to be doing well!
