Okay, I was, well, copying some pictures of doggie clothes to print so I could make some for my babies. Anyway, I hit the print button and a box comes up saying I need to take my printer to the manufacturer because some of the parts inside have run their life expectency. Can you believe that???
So I called the manufacturer and they said "yes, they don't last forever" I've had it about 6 years. It will cost way to much to fix it and new ones are not THAT expensive. BUT why couldn't it wait until closer for Christmas so I could ask for that? I can never think of things I really want for Christmas (mostly because no one could afford it....LOL) and it has to happen now. So, I'm going to go check some out and see what's out there. I HAD an Epson Stylus C42UX. Does anyone have one they recommend? Give me some ideas ladies....one that will have good color too.

Oh there is NEVER a good time for crap to break down, that's for sure. Our printer downstairs did the same thing about a year ago. Sure enough we had to have a part replaced. (can't recall what that was now though).
We have a printer upstairs hooked onto this pc that so far (knock on wood) works very well. I use it constantly to print pics from the camera, and everything else inbetween.
It's just a HP photosmart 7660. Not very expensive either. I do believe it came from WM. It's not too big/bulky and kinda sleek looking. But, it does print well.
Tell your hubby that Christmas needs to come early this year. For goodness sake, the fur kids are counting on it! :D

The good thing is I do have a small HP photo printer. It can only print out 4 x 6 prints. But I'll have to get another kind if I want to print anything else.

Oh Janet, I'm sorry to hear that:( But, hey, I have an idea!!!!!! Go get the one you want and SAVE the empty box....then wrap it up, stick it under the tree, and open it on Christmas and "surprise" yourself :D I've done that in the past - my boys think it's hilarious!!!
Good luck on your printer search!

Good idea!! I just may do that.
I'll just add shopping for a printer on Thursday when I go shop for a fence. Also, there was an advertisement flyer for Rural King in the paper and they have a bunch of doggie stuff on sale. Everything from toys, clothes and beds. I'll be checking that out too!

I had the SAME thing happen with my 600 $ printer - the printer heads went out - it was an hp - and it would cost 200 to get new ones as there is NO way to tell WHICH head isn't working - what a freaking SCAM that is - after only 2 years of having it ?? Normally I get the 2 year replacement plans cause I do ALOT of printing for my side business - but in this case the plan expired
When I started making the Labels for people on YT - that's when it died - I went BACK to Comp USA And picked up a CANON Pixima Printer for $199.99 and it prints THE BEST pictures -
Look at it this way -
EXPENSIVE HP Printer = 1200 DPI
$200.00 CANON Printer - 4600 DPI
The quality of my labels and cards is outstanding with this printer and I HAD planned to return it if I didn't like it but I LOVE it -
my big HP is retired but I would fix it if I had the extra $$

To help a bit more since I've gone thru 5 printers in 7 years - here is the top qualities of the 3 major brands
HP - GREAT FOR PRINTING PHOTOS - not great on ink but ok -
Epsun - Great for printing - but not known for photo printing and can be higher costwise
Canon - GREAT for saving on color ink cartridges - since they take so many ink cartridges - you only replace the color that goes out - vs - other printers
Laser printers - buy these if you do alot of document printing - not known for photo printing
to me ....after having 3 Canons and 2 HP printers - I think I like Canon best for quality printing - there is a world of difference in the DPI-s of this printer I just bought 2 months ago

My Epson is the one that went out. It did a real nice job, but was noisey as heck. I just bought a cheaper Lexmark printer to replace it. It is so quiet and fast and prints text just great. Not too thrilled with the photo printing, but hey, I only spent $29 on it....LOLOL I do have a very nice HP Photo printer and I love the quality photos it prints. To do anything else, I'll need a much better printer. Thanks for the tips Villette.
