My 15 yr old cousin down in Mexico started her menstrual cycle about a year ago. The first few months her cycle will last more than two weeks. I know that when your cycle begins and end it tends to last longer, so no worries. Eventually she did go to her GYN but it is now almost a year and nothing has been resolved. Now what worries me is that I finally ask her what her Dr prescribed her. She said she's taking a med named Lutoral. This is something I found:
http://www.drugs.com/international/lutoral.html
http://www.flexyx.com/L/Lutoral.html
First they don't sell it here so I'm pretty sure it's not FDA approved. I really don't trust Dr's in Mexico, not to say there no good doctor there. Second why didn't they mention to her mom that its a contraception (if I'm reading it right). I know contraception are used to deal with the flow but I don't even really know what this is. Also, they told her not exercise too much  I know exercise is great for bloating and having cramps dismiss.
I suffer from long cycles myself and I have been told repeatedly that I am healthy. So I gave her tips, like removing any fuzzy drinks, sugar, whole milk, caffein, fast food, greasy food (she's going to have a heart attack with this list). I told her to take iron pills, vitamin K (read deficiency in vitamin K can cause menorrhagia) and Omega 3.
Many websites recommend Advil or Motrin for cramps but I learned back when I was an ST student that anything with blood thinners can cause your period to prolong.
What can I recommend to her that is a pain killer and anti-inflammatory that does not contain Salicylates what aspirin contains. (is Tylenol a candidate?)
Would she be considered as having menorrhagia? She has lasted for a month or close more than one occasion. I also think she should be checked for ovarian cyst or am I overthinking
Any advise or tip would be great :o
