Ughhhh, I am sooooo sick of my hair!! I have really thick, wavy hair that gets big and frizzy when the weather gets humid. I have tried so many different things on my hair but the only thing that really controls it is gel but it makes it kind of stiff too. I was wondering if anyone on here has suggestions on products that work for curly/wavy hair. I would like something that controls my hair but doesn't make it so stiff. I have tried mousse but it makes my hair kind of big.

Sorry, I have somewhat opposite of you - thick hair but it's straight!! Any curl it has it from a curling iron and that doesn't hold the curl in unless I use cement on my hair to keep it that way! I have some stuff at home that I got from the salon I get my hair cut at - don't remember the name but it helps hold the curl that I put in it (or flip up the ends rather) all day and I don't have to use as much hair spray. And it really doesn't leave my hair "stiff" feeling. If you like, I can get the name tonight when I'm home and post it then for you.

I know exactly what you mean, my hair is naturally curly as well but I straighten mine everyday! But.....the member Mandy78 is a hair stylist and she gave me some suggestions on products for curly hair, I have them written down at home so I'm not sure on the name of them but Im sure she will see this thread and help you!

Thank you all so much for your replies. Heather, I have a maxiglide straightener and it leaves my hair pretty straight. The good thing about it is it lasts so you don't have to straighten it every day. But I like to give my hair a breather every once in a while because heat styling takes its toll so I try to wear it natural sometimes. Any names of products you guys can throw my way is greatly appreciated.

Dove now makes a styling cream for curlie hair. It works pretty well, but my hair is thin & curly. It does not make it sticky.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Aveda's Hang Straight it goes on like a leave in conditioner and never ever makes it stiff, if anything it is more soft after using it. BUT it totally works!
I also have a really nice (and kind of pricey) professional hair straightener that works great -- With straighteners you really do get what you pay for.
Here is the link for the product-- Aveda Hang Stright (http://www.aveda.com/templates/products2/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10538&PRODUCT_ID=PROD5835)

I dont straighten my hair everyday, but I wear it straight everyday! I only wash my hair usually every 2 days, sometimes I will wash it everyday but not too often!

When I was younger my hair was so thick and curly. I was always so embarassed to do anything in hot weather or rain because I would always "glisten" and my face would get so red and the hair would just frizz up. I finally quit letting it bother me, because whenever I would complain, everyone told me they liked it. Now I wear my hair short, it's still thick, but I don't have the curly's anymore. Now if I am out in the rain, when it dries it looks bad because it dries in waves without me blow drying it.

When I get the frizzies, I bust out with a pony tail holder...works for me everytime!;)

My best friend has hair just like you have described. She goes to a salon every 4 to 6 months and get a straightning perm put in her hair. It can be expensive since you have to go so ofter but she hates her hair if it's not straightned. He hair stays straighter and lays flatter than mine now. She use to do an at home perm also that was a straightning perm.
She has also told me that some of the top of the line salons have a more perminant one that your only suppose to have to do each year. But you pay for it.
Hope some of this helps.

Oh, my friend got a straightening perm!!!!!!! Her hair was SO wavy beforehand that she could not even straighten it with a flat iron! The straightening perm worked miracles. She never had to worry about her hair for at least 6 months. She gets it redone every 6 months.

NO sympathy here from someone with stick-strait hair who has always wanted curls....:p
Around here the thing you always hear about is Japanese Hair Straightening. It is supposed to last a long time and not damage your hair... and I think it is really expensive.... not that I would know the details...

I just started a thread about this BEFORE I read it. Looks like this is helping a lot. I had thought about a straightening iron but I have no clue where to start. I don't want one that isn't going to work. SO any brands that are better. I would like to try the iron before getting it straightened at the salon...

My hair isnt curly but its thick and wavy. I use a straightening iron everyday, and WOW, what a huge difference! My hair even feels silky after I use it. (I never knew what THAT felt like before) I have two flat irons. One is 1" the other is 2" wide. I don't think there is any reason to spend the big bucks. Just make sure the heat is adjustable and that the paddles parts that touch your hair are ceramic. I think each of mine were under $30.

Have you tried a product called bed head?

I think I tried something like that but it left my hair kind of sticky. I found this product from Loreal Vive, it called Smooth-Intense Anti-Frizz creme. It works pretty good and doesn't leave my hair stiff or sticky. I have been using it for the past week and so far I am pleased. I just hope my hair doesn't get "immune" to it. Don't you just hate when your products all of a sudden stop working?

HAve you tried any products by AQUAGE?
They really are the BEST out there! We are one of the top AQUAGE salons in the counrty, and I swear by them!
For curly hair--to keep it curly, try the DEFINING GEL- works wonderdully! Work it thru the hair real well, then use your dryer with your diffuser on it on high heat, but low speed. As you dry your hair, spray the AGUAGE WORKING SPRAY- and continue to dry. Keep doing this til hair is dry. It may not be 100% "run your fingers thru your hair soft," but it will keep it curly and not be frizzy! Then finish the style with the AQUAGE FINISHING SPRAY.
They also just came out with a brand new product, AQUAGE CURL CREME. Have yet to use it, since its soo new, but I will let you know as soon as I do use it!
FOr curly hair---and you want it straight. Try the AQUAGE STAIGHTENING ULTA GEL. This product rocks!~ Its light weight and helps keep the hair straighter and keeps it from frizzing! Blow dry the hair. Before you flat iron the hair, (which the CHI straightener is the BEST) use the AQUAGE BEYOND BODY THERMAL STYLER. This protects the hair from the heat, and adds shine and seals that cuticle shut to keep it nice and straight!
But before you use any of these products, you should try the line of shamppos and conditioners. They really do make a difference in your hair. NO MORE CHEAP PRODUCTS!!!!! Cheap products damage your hair! They really do. So even before I dry my hair, I put the AQUAGE HYDRATING MIST on the hair!!! Its a wonderful leave in treatment! And the more you use t, the better your hair feels!!!!
Give the AQUAGE products a try! I guarntee you love them!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
