My Mom called me the day that Althea passed away but what she had to say really didn't sink in until later. Mom's been having problems with high blood pressure for probably a year and a half. Actually she's had high blood pressure for years but has been able to control it with meds.....but now nothing seems to want to control it. She went and had a stress test and was called back into the doctor's office earlier than expected and was told that some time she's had a heart attack and it's damaged the lower part of her heart. It really worries me because 3 of her 5 sisters has also had silent heart attacks. Mom has no clue when this happened. She's suppose to go and have a heart cath as soon as the doctor calls with a date and time. I wonder if her high blood pressure could have started after her heart attack.

My Mom's always been in such good shape and health......she's always exercised and watched her weight and could probably work circles around me so it's really hard to think that she could start having trouble with her health.

Yes, it is possible the high blood pressure and the heart attack are related. It is unlikely that the heart attack caused the high blood pressure - the other way around is more likely. But then anything is possible. Silent heart attacks can happen to anyone. It sounds like it may run in her family. I hope she finds out something soon! Since she is in such good health, that will really help!

Poor Mom! I hope her health gets straightened out very soon, and that her blood pressure gets under control.

Oh Diana...not your Mom too!!! There are just too many of us with Mothers having health problem. Diana please keep us updated, okay? Also...if it runs on your mother's side...please have yourself checked out thoroughly. I really need to find some time to give you a call and finish our last conversation.

The doctor actually gave her the option of having the heart cath or not......I couldn't believe that with her family history that he thought it could be an option!! I'm glad that she decided to go ahead and have it done because then she'll know if there's any problems and take care of it. She's really good about taking care of herself so I don't think that all of this will affect her much. Her sisters are all still active and going strong so I expect that Mom will be as well. I think that she still has a lot of years left!!!

I'm so glad she's getting it done. It's the only way to know for sure if there is any blockage. Please let us know when you hear how she's doing!

When is your Mom having the heart cath done? I know everything will go well for her, but I'm keeping her in my prayers anyway. With all of Mom's health problems, a heart cath was too dangerous for her so it wasn't done. Glad your Mom is able to have it done.

Mom called yesterday and she finally has an appointment. It's on March 25th. I know that one of her sisters will be there and probably more will decide to be there as well. We'll have to go to Wichita to have it done. I think that she mentioned something else that she needed to have done as well but I can't remember what it was.

My Mom's always been so active that I don't even think about her getting older. She's 72, I think!!! I know that she'll be fine. She's really good about staying on top of her health. Thanks so much for your prayers!!

My Mom lives in a little community called Two Lakes. It's just a group of houses around a large pond!! My step-father, Art, already lived there when they got married and my Mom loves it. They sit out on the back porch and have their coffee in the morning while looking at the "lake"!! It's about 30 miles from us but my Mom works here in town and they drive in to town for church.
