Wonderful that Layla's surgery was a success. Now I hope this little girl gets a break and will be free from all troubles for the rest of her life.

How is Layla recuperating ? I hope she is doing well. Hugs

Layla is doing really well! She is doing okay with the eye drops, she doesn't mind them too much. She hates her cone, but that's to be expected. We try to scratch her ears as best we can for her! She also hates us trying to clean her face to get the crusties off around her eye, without putting pressure on the eye itself. When she sees me coming with a washcloth, she turns away. But otherwise, the surgery site is healing nicely and is not bleeding anymore!

Glad Layla is doing so well. That little girl sure has spirit and spunk doesn't she! What a brave little girl.

Layla had bloody diarrhea on Saturday and we took a sample to our local vet who was SURE it was giardia. Then she did a test and called back saying it is not giardia because the test came back negative. She said she'd call back after more tests. She didn't call back until today saying she looked again and saw cysts so she thinks it is giardia and we need to treat her and maybe the other two dogs too.... But Layla has been fine (solid poops, eating and drinking, normal energy) since that one incident and the other dogs have always been fine. It makes no sense to me. I am so frustrated! I don't want to medicate her without any hard evidence. She is going through enough. Ugh. One thing after another.

Poor Layla. She HAS been through so much. I hope that she doesn't have any other problems and the doctor was wrong. Give Layla a hug from me.....Sweet Girl!!

Lindsey, I wouldn't treat Layla if her stools have been normal since Saturday. My Rowdy had Giardia when we were camped in the mountains and he had diarrhea for days and days. We were in an area without a vet, so we had to break camp and take him to a vet. They didn't have any medicine in a small enough dose for him (we were in rural New Mexico - guess they don't have many small dogs there) so we had to go to Santa Fe to a pharmacy that does compounding to have them make his medicine. By that time he had had diarrhea for about 8 days. I gave him the medicine and he didn't poop for 6 days. I just knew I was going to have to give him an enema!!! LOL!
Anyway, I wouldn't treat Layla if her poop is normal now. |
Thanks Gayle. We decided not to treat her. Scott called the vet back (I'm too scared lol) and told her we weren't going to pick up the medication.

It sounds like she is doing fine and that's the only thing that counts!

Glad she's doing better Lindsey, you're such a good mama for her.
