We were looking for something was was extremely durable. I was actually looking for something like you see in the grocery stores!!! Our contractors had laid this in the church that they went to and really liked it so they brought a square over for us to see. My husband threw rocks on it and did all kinds of things to it to see if it would last. With my husband being a farmer we have lots of dirt and my floors really take a beating! The vinyl fooring I had at my last home had little cuts from dropping knives and wasn't in good shape at all so we wanted something that would last. I do have some scratches on the floor from rocks getting underneath the bar stool legs and then dragged across the floor and I noticed a little spit that that's peeling (my husband dropped his pliers on the floor and it made a spot) but that's not too back for 9 years!! The only places where I have carpet is my living room and the bedrooms. All the rest of it is this flooring and I have a lot of it!!

Cost wise it was more expensive than tile to buy but was cheaper to lay than tile and if we ever have to we can replace just one square, like tile.

But why the individual pieces? Is it so you can replace just a piece instead of the whole floor? Do they make a heavy duty type in a roll?

Can you tell I'm wanting to do some different things around here? I like getting advice from ones that actually know, have it, or are researching also.

I'm thinking right now of a type of laminate in my living room and down the hall. Not sure yet. I do like that vinyl tile idea.

You should check into the Pergo floor covering. It looks like a wood floor and it's not too hard to put down. It would be so easy to take care of with you puppies and would look so much better than a vinyl floor.

I've heard of Pergo, so I will definitely check it out. Guess I should have read the last line of your post #16 and I would have known.

The one that I used to use is in the basement along with an old green vinyl covered couch. I suppose that you could have them but you'll have to cough up some money to get my good stove and couch!!!!! And I live in Kansas!!!

Diana's home is just beautiful! I want your house...you can have mine....lol

DianaB 04-04-2008 03:08 PM

You have a nice home too, Janet! You silly girl!!!

I waited too long to get my home and I put a lot of thought on the floor plan so to get me out you're going to need a lot of help and a crowbar!!!!!

Janet 04-04-2008 03:19 PM

We tried to put a lot of thought in our home when we built it, but we were way too young and didn't have enough married life to know what we truely wanted and needed. Sure wish we would have waited just a little while longer...but I do love my home for the most part.

That's one reason I'm glad we didn't buy a house right after getting married. We've had three apartments and each one was better than the last. We lived in PA for the first five months--I got homesick so we moved back. Our house there was hideous! That's all I'll say about that. LOL! We lived in our second place for 2.5 years, now we've lived here for a year. We moved from our second apartment to here because it started getting dangerous due to some less than ideal new neighbors. It was a decent place, but didn't have a w/d or dishwasher and not enough storage at all. The layout wasn't the best either. But...We just love our current house! We knew exactly what we wanted/needed because of what we liked or lacked in our previous apartments. I really feel like we'll know what we want when it comes time to buy a house.

It's really good to wait, I think. We should have had more marriage and life experience to know what kind of household we were wanting. Plan the floor plan a little better. Now after 33 years, I would change so much. I'd really like to move, but no one else here does. Maybe someday.

Now that's a stove! I'm so happy for you Diana - you love to cook. Enjoy it.
