Dropped 11 cents a litre here... conversions... from $5.45/gal to $5.07/gal... what are you guys complaining about? :p
|
I don't know what it is here. I've been home painting and haven't had to fill up in quite a while. I have heard it's gone down in price twice.
|
Well, the highest I paid around here was $4.079. The city where we actually live, the highest I saw was $3.999. It has dropped over the past week to $3.579. Some people are saying that it is due to the push for offshore drilling, but we won't see new offshore oil for many years, even if they start working on it right away. Correct me if I'm wrong here, Sandy.
Others are saying it's because Congress is talking about dipping into our oil reserves to help bring the price down. It's very obvious, that the price we are paying isn't based on the cost to produce, but on speculation of what the future holds. How sad!!! Hubby told me that ExxonMobile announced their quarterly profits and they are huge!!! Highest profits any company has ever made in a quarter. I heard on the news that they aren't making the profits at the pumps. They must be making it selling oil to their own refineries or something. They are making it somewhere and bottomline, it's coming out of our pockets, you can bet on that!!!! |
Marilyn, I worked on a large project for the Gulf of Mexico that took only two years from start of construction to first oil. That time could double if it is only in conception. We need more refineries.
I won't even try to defend ExxonMobil because we've gotta blame somebody! |
Down from $4.09.9 to $3.84.9 here right now.

Someone is in control of this, someone has the answer. Just wish they would step up and make things right. |
First, there hasn't been a "new" refinery built in many years. (Some had added on and some have revamped.) Second, between availability and environmentally, there's no place to build.
Production is ramped down because the refineries need to be modernized. |
$3.82.9 here today
|
$4.69 in Homer Alaska (I'm on vacation). I hear it is down from almost $5.00
The TV ads here say heating oil is $6.50 a gallon here and if it stays that high, it could cost $2100 per month to heat your home this winter  The state of Alaska is proposing a $1200 rebate to help with heating costs this winter. Sounds to me like it needs to be A LOT MORE!!! |
Gayle, that's insane! It's bad enough here!
|
How will the people be able to pay other necessities? I think it's down to $3.71 here.
