Going Crazy!!!!
This anticipation...waiting for Emma to be born is really starting to get to me!!! Monday, August 8th was the due date, yesterday...seems longer ago than that. Karen went to the doctor and they did a full workup to see how the baby is doing and she is great!!! Healthy and strong, not in any stress, so they made her an appointment for next Monday. She is still just dilated 1 cm and no progress, yet.
I feel like I can't breathe right. Karen was two weeks late herself, so like mother like daughter, I guess. I know it was frustrating then, but it feels worse waiting for Karen to give birth than it was for me. She's so uncomfortable, but all that matters is that she has an easy delivery of a very healthy baby. We keep saying whenever she comes is the right time and we keep praying for all to go well. This is the first grandchild, and I wasn't expecting to feel this way. It's actually kinda like torture. Just had no idea..... |
It IS torture! I remember my Mom saying that there was a world of difference between my brothers wives giving birth and ME giving birth. She's your little girl and you know what she is about to go through. You won't even believe how much you're going to love this baby! It's the most incredible thing:D I see that you're going to be called Granna. That's what my 3 call me :)
|
We used to look at Jessie, and say "Aren't you finished making the baby yet?" It is a crazy making time!
You will immediately fall in love in a way you have never know before as soon as you lay eyes on Emma! Grandchildren are ...well, there really are no words!!! Prayers for an easy delivery and a happy, healthy baby. |
I can understand!!! Look for a day where she's really really getting a lot done......that's called NESTING. She'll go into labor either that night or the next day!!!!
I cleaned, painted a baby dresser three times, and fixed a huge supper the day before I went into labor with Jaci!!!! |
She's already cleaned everything multiple times. Cooks dinner every evening. Has everything all setup. I don't know what else she can do!! She's nested and rearranged the nest. Lol!
Betsi, it took a while to figure out what I would be called. The other grandmother claimed Grammy the day we found out. I wanted Nana, but there is a not so well liked great grandmother on his side who goes by Nana. There is also a new not well accepted step-grandmother in the mix and her name is Nena, so with one Nana already and a Nena, I thought another similar sounding would be too confusing for the little one, so searched and thought for months and one day I heard someone called Granna, and said that's it!! Rex wants to be Grandpa, so it's Grandpa & Granna. Karen liked it, and it meshes well with the other grandmother's names. Can't wait to see her and fall in love again!! Lots of people are praying, so we feel pretty good, just anxious for the call and rush trip to see her!! |
I have a couple of cousins that their grandkids call them "Mimi". I think that's a cute name and different from most. I go by Grandma but Glen is called Papa. If the kids want to differentiate us from the other grandparents then we're Grandma Diana and Papa Glen.
|
I used to be just Grandma, then I became Grandma Judy. I don't know why. I think Steve started calling me that to the kids. Now I'm back to Grandma again. I love that name! Steve's mom is Nanny. She wanted the Polish version of Nana, but Jessie didn't push it, so it was Nana, then Nanny. Both grandfathers are PopPop Joel and PopPop Bill.
Gramma is a good name! Gramma Marilyn!!! |
It's interesting to hear what you are all called. I left one grandmother out, there is a great grandmother who will be very close to our granddaughter who is called MeeMa, so Mimi would have been too close to that one. I and our daughters called their grandmothers Grandma, and if we wanted to differentiate, we added the last name. My friends are all Nana or Grammy and I just didn't want to be Grandma. My friends were bugging me to know what I would be called. So, anyway, Granna it is for now.

I love this discussion. I'm Mimi because when Abigail was little she called me Moma and she called her mom, Moma, so we never could tell which one of us she was talking to. We tried and tried to get her to call me grandma, but she just never would. Then we began to realize maybe she couldn't SAY grandma. So, one day Brooke told her to call me Mimi and she immediately began to call me that, so I think it really was that she couldn't say, grandma. Gary is Papaw and the other grandparents (whom they don't see very often) are Nana and grandpa.
When my mom came to live with me, then we had a great mimi and for some reason Abigail started calling me regular mimi. Sometimes Abi would just call me "regular" without the mimi at the end. She doesn't anymore but she did for a while. Her calling me regular mimi just cracks up my nieces, they think that is so funny so sometimes they call me regular!!! |
I'm Ma! I wanted to be Grammy, but my daughter's MIL took that, but the gkids call her Nayne after her name Nadyne. DIL's mom Kathy was called Weeza. My grandmothers were Little Grannie, Big Grannie, and great was Big Big Grannie. It had nothing to do with their size. Grandfathers were all Grandpa "name". My kids called their grandparents Grannie "name" and PaPa "name".

I had no idea grandparents picked what they wanted to be called. I would think it would mean more if the child chose it. My Mom has always been grandma except for a name my sister-in-law called her behind her back and her two daughters followed suit.

That SIL sounds mean spirited, Janet! No matter what, her girls were turned against their Grandmother, a relationship that is so important. My mother did that until my father's mom moved into our apartment building. I found out that she was so cool! I was lucky to have gotten the chance to be loved by her.
Marilyn, we used last names for our grandparents when we were kids too. We had Grandma Bloom and Grandpa Bloom. My mother's mom was called Bubby though, the Jewish word for grandmother. So, they became Bubby and Grandpa Jake. I think some people choose what they want to be called, and then go with what the grandchildren can actually pronounce. Brandon used to call me "Jooey" when he was little. He heard people call me Judy, and I guess he liked that word. Whatever you are called, it becomes one of your favorite words!!! |

We'll see how it all works out. BTW, we're still waiting....... |

They missed out! Your SIL was wrong.
Steve's mom is not able to let her hair down and just relax and enjoy the kids. She does love them though, and they love her. Relationships can be worked out when love is the basis, especially with kids. She is a wonderful woman, and she has an underlying sweetness that is beautiful. |
