Square Foot Garden

We planted strawberries today. It's actually a bit late to plant them, but oh well, it was fun. I'll plant my tomatoes and peppers tomorrow - it's supposed to be in the 30's tonight.

and a couple more
The tomatoes will go on the end closest to the front of the first picture in the post. That is the north end of the garden - I'll put them there so they don't shade the shorter plants. So, it will be tall on one end and short on the other end. You may notice a scalloped little green wire fence - that is to keep little yorkie feet OUT OF THE GARDEN!!! Oh yes, they were a BIG help! |
That looks SO neat! I hope it works great for you!

Wow!! Your little garden is really coming along!! Is it too early for tomatoes and peppers? They prefer to be put out when it's warmer or if you put them out now, take a gallon milk carton and cut the bottom off and place the top part over the plant to help keep it warm. We used to do that when we put our tomatoes out early. Keep us posted on how it's doing!!

Hi Diane! We have our tomatoes and peppers, and I'm just waiting till tomorrow when it will be warmer (Tues night) than last night or tonight. If it stays above 45, they can be left uncovered. It is supposed to be below 45 tonight, but above the rest of the week. So I'm going to go ahead and put them out. I want them out early so that I can harvest some tomatoes (hopefully) before we leave for vacation in mid/late May. I know I'll have to cover them (hubby has 5 gallon buckets) a few times, but at least they will have a head start!

That is terrific! I can't wait to see things growing. What a clever idea.
|
It's looking good, Gayle!!! I'm anxious to see how everything grows!!
|
I was not feeling good yesterday and today (just a bad cold) so I didn't plant the tomatoes and peppers yet, but hopefully, I'll feel better tomorrow. I also got some cilantro and I'm going to put in some rosemary and summer squash.
|
I love summer squash!!!
|
I had a garden in MN, tomatoes, green peppers, carrots, squash, green beans, and yes, black eyed peas and okra. Loved it.
My yard has too much shade for a garden here. Have tried to plant a few things in my courtyard but the squirrels eat everything. Can't wait to watch yours grow. |
OH NO! Now I have to perform - you are going to expect pictures of everything as it grows!! WHAT IF I KILL EVERYTHING!!!! LOL! :D
|
I am sure that you will not kill anything. I will have to scan some pictures from by garden in MN.

Okay...somehow I missed this thread. I really like the look of the garden Gayle. I did save a website or something that someone posted.
I did tell my husband that I would like to plant a garden this year. Fresh produce is getting so expensive and I love to can and freeze my veggies. We'll see. Seems like every year it gets so hot so fast that the garden planting time seemed to get aways from us. |
