Barn Bash 2009

We're planning our Barn Bash for the last weekend in May, and this year I'm taking all my doggies. Last year, I paid a neighbor teenager to care for them. Hubby and I always get the cottage at my son's house and it has a good fence around it, so I'm going to take them and pray for no disasters. I know I'll end up keeping them in crates most of the time.

This is going to be loads of fun, with family, friends, neighbors, even co-workers. We're getting a bigger pig this year and will probably end up renting a camper sleeper. Heck, there's 18 just counting hubby, me, kids+, and g-kids. Then, there's the in-laws, my sister+, cousins, neighbors. I'm counting probalby 80 people to be there, hopefully not all at the same time!

Hubby will drive his truck with doggie crates and pull a trailer with 4-wheelers. I'll drive my Tahoe with doggies and there will be groceries and stuff stashed in every corner. I usually shop here and transport it, so I have more visiting time there.

Is this a family reunion? Or just a get-together? It sounds like fun, whatever it is!! I love a good hog roast!!! Yum!!!

Oh how fun. I would love to have a barn bash. But if i had my way I would live in a barn. I love barns. they are the greatest thing invented. I also collect barn stuff. Have fun....

It's something Jeff wanted to start. Last year, it was just our little immediate family, his MIL and FIL, and his closest friend Wade +2 kiddos. So, it's not actually our family reunion as in blood relatives, but since some of the friends have been around for 20+ years we feel like they are family (some are Godparents to our g-kids).

This year, he's inviting the world - COME ON OVER. Last year, we had a 39# pig. We'll need a much bigger one this year, maybe from the 4H Club auction tomorrow night. My g-daughter, Christian, is showing her pig (BonBon) tomorrow night.

That sounds like a ton of fun! How many dogs are you taking?

I love a good hog roast too. So darn good and with all the carry-in dishes...Yum Yum! Sounds like a great time.

I'm taking 6 doggies - the 5 Yorkies and 1 ShihTzu. We don't travel much and they are usually good on trips.

I sure wish you all could come.

Don't you love the 4-wheeler? Unfortunately, I get too brave on our big one and want to "cut up".

Wow, that sounds like a really fun time!!! How do you cook the pig?? BBQ??

Tiramisu 04-02-2009 11:17 AM

We have a big homemade smoker (on wheels) that they smoke it in. The men will put one on and sit out by it most of the night - drinking and lying! It actually becomes more of a pulled pork, so tender and falling apart that you just pick it up with your fingers and dip it in your sauce. We put some in tortillas for the kiddos.

I plan to buy as much already prepared side dishes as I can. Jeff & Emily actually have 5 refrigerators and freezers, so keeping things cold is no problem.

We have a small narrow valley behind our house and Glen and Jaci have made trails for the 4-wheeler to drive on. It's pretty steep going up the other side and I don't try it when it's muddy because I'm afraid that it won't make it. I love to go and ride around there once in a while. I like to "cut up" too! I love my 4-wheeler!! Did you ever see the pictures where we went and rode in the mountains? I'll try to find them and post a link. I'd only had my 4-wheeler for a couple of months!!!
