Electrolysis

Does anyone here do electrolysis? I go to an electrolysis to get my eyebrows done and I have done the corners of my upper lip, but it has been quite awhile since I last went because I haven't had any regrowth. I am now just trying to get up the guts to get the rest of my upper lip done and I would really like to get my WHOLE face done and my bikini line done. Does anyone else do electrolysis?

Not the same thing... But I've been having laser done on my underarms and bikini area. Hurts like nothin else! I figured out I have more blonde hair than I realize, and laser can't target that. :( I'm going to have to get electrolysis to get rid of the lighter hairs once I've killed all the darker ones.

How did the eyebrows go? Was it really painful?

Yeah, I have "peach fuzz" all over my face that I really want to get rid of! Electrolysis is the only proven way for permanent hair removal. I can vouch that it is permanant. I no longer have to get my eyebrows done. It was painful when I first started, but I started going when I was 13. If you do find it painful, you can get cream from the drugstore that numbs whatever area you put it on. My upperlip is what hurts me, so I just put the cream on about an hour before my appointment and I can't feel a thing! I think electrolysis is WELL worth the money. Also, there is less chance of regrowth is white "peach fuzz" than with dark hairs, like eyebrows.

Were you really red and swollen afterwards? If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

I'm seeing REALLY good results with the laser. The majority of the hair that is left is either blonde (which again, laser can't affect) or at the very least is a lot finer than it was. It's closer to being more like... I dunno, arm hair (really fine and light) than "down there" hair. I just want to get electrolysis so I can be COMPLETELY hair free!

I need to start searching for a good one in my area. I know there's a TON of 'em, but finding one I trust is the hard part... Especially when it comes to doing my bikini area. That's not exactly an area I want just anybody poking with a little needle/probe!

No, I was only red for like 10 minutes afterwards. If you put some ice on it, the redness get out really quickly. I have moved twice in the past year, so I have been to 3 different electrolysises who all charge different prices. The first one I went to, who started on me when I was 13 and worked on me until after I graduated college a year ago, she charge $40 for 15 minutes I think. I didn't pay for it then, my mom did. But the SHORTEST amount of time she would take you would be 15 minutes. But the second 2 electrolysises I went to charged by the minute. Since I have minimal regrowth now, the past 2 times I have gone, I only went for 5 minutes each and it was $6. So, if you are on a budget, I would get one that charges by the minute. Just make sure they are certifed by the American Academy of Electrolysis (or some fancy name like that). As long as they are certified, you shouldn't worry. I would be most worried about your eyebrows simply because if someone messes those up, the hair doesn't grow back. The other parts, like your bikini area and the rest of your face, it doesn't take talent to do those parts because they don't need "shaping." They just stick the needle in the pore the hair is coming out of, zap it, and then pluck the hair. Pretty simple if you ask me.

I have a mustache and some little hairs on my chin, but I'm too chicken to try anything. I use the creme hair removers and they were fine for me. Maybe if I ever get enough money and some nerve, I'll try the heavy duty stuff!!:)

If you only have a few stray hairs, you should definately try electrolysis! It won't take anytime to zap those few hairs! And electrolysis is the only proven method of permanent hair removal. You should go for it! It will make you feel good!

Never had that done...just wax over here.

I just pull them with the tweezers..ouch, every couple of days. How expensive is the electrolysis? If I had my choice I'd rather something be done with my legs. I've been shaving for years now and I get tired of it. The hair on my legs is so dark and stiff. But when winter gets here out come the long pants and sweats.:)

I'm a bikini-waxer, too. I've always wanted to get my legs done, but it's the waiting for the hair to get long enough that keeps me from trying it.

Ok girls my mom does Electrolysis and i will tell you all a secret if you go to a beauty college to get it done you will save a fortune it's the same quality only cheaper we are talking only like $11.00 for an hour verses $40-60 for 15 min it's way cheaper!

Girl!!!! I'll be looking in the phone book for a beauty school!!! Might need to have a couple of cocktails before I could get an hour's worth done, though!:p

Well I know that you cannot get your legs done with electrolysis....there's too much hair. You can only get small areas done. I've gotten my eyebrows and part of my upper lip. I want to get my entire face done & bikini area. My sisters have gotten their toes and fingers done. My mom has gotten EVERYTHING done....eyebrows, entire face, bikini area, toes, fingers, and underarms. She also has permanent eyeliner (the same lady does both). However, I would never get the permanent eyeliner. My mom says it hurts SOOOO bad!

Oh I am just so chicken. I envy you brave souls :) I don't think I would want the permanent eyeliner either, but not just because of the pain, but I just don't know how good it would look at 60, 70 or 80 years of age, if I live that long.

Actually you can do your legs it just takes a little longer and if you want it done faster have 2 people work on you at the same time. Also my mom does permanent cosmetics to the permanent eye liner and i agree i wouldn't get it done personally but my mom has it done she said it didn't hurt and she loves it i guess it all depends on your pain management the put a topical solution to help numb the area.

RLC12345678 09-13-2006 06:09 AM

Also, the permanent cosmetics fade. So, you don't have to worry about how it's going to look when you're 80. :p

Oh I didn't know that. When I hear permanent, I think permanent..LOL

Don't think I would like seeing it on a 80 or 90 year old. My mother wears too much make-up for her age (83) and I've tried to help her, but to no avail. If it doesn't embarrass her, then it shouldn't embarrass me, I guess.

does the electrolysis only work on dark hair? i hate shaving my legs and bikini area all the time but i have blonde hair on my legs and it's really fine but the other area- well i'm a redhead so that ought to tell you...i don't know if i could lay there with my patootie hanging out for them to put a needle into each pore...is there another way to do it???

Actually electrolysis works best on blonde hair. It works on both, but sometimes with the darker hairs you will have some regrowth. My eyebrows grew back one or two times, but after the 2nd time stopped growing back. The hair on my upper lip is blonde, and it never grew back. AND, when you get your bikini line done, you wear your underwear. They just do the sides and will go in as far as you would like then to, but they don't do it until it's bald. :p :D :p :D :p If it is the least bit uncomfortable, you can get this inexpensive cream at the drugstore (forgot the name of it, but your electrolysis can tell you) that you put on the area that you are having worked on, and it numbs it. I did this for my upperlip and I didn't feel a thing.

Amber_lv 09-13-2006 07:03 AM

your hair goes through 7 stages of growth so you usually have to get it done a few times to completely stop the growth but it is effective on all types of hair but it does take longer on thicker coarse hair

I had my eyeliner done a few weeks ago. I'm loving it! I should start a new thread on it....
