I am deathly afraid of spiders and bugs in general, especially water bugs and flying roaches. As of late, I have also become really scared of riding the subway (terrorist threats) so I have switched to buses. I live in NYC so it is kind of hard to avoid using the subways but I hate them with a passion.

Amber_lv 09-14-2006 08:05 AM

my youngest dtr. was scared of bandaids for about the first 6 years of her life-she is 7 now. she would have a fit if she got a bo-bo and we tried to put one on her she would scream more from the band-aid than the bo-bo...so you are not the only one:p :p :D

I am also afraid of the dark. I always have been. Unless hubby is in bed with me, I sleep with a nightlight on and the hall light on and the TV on. When I was little, I used to think that aliens were going to come abduct me. I also NEVER look into a mirror at night or in the dark. After seeing Candyman, I'm scarred for life.

ginab 09-14-2006 08:46 AM

my biggest fear right now is losing one of my family members, and losing my lexi.
nothing else matters to me...

Janet 09-14-2006 08:58 AM

Ever since I was little I've been afraid of BIRDS. I can remember and so can my Mom, of me waking up screaming because I dreamt of chickens in and on my crib. I can remember it like it was yesterday and can tell you where all 5 chickens were.

I can't go any place like tourist places that have birds running around, any kind of BIRD, ducks, geese...even the fake ones. It's a horrible fear.

I can't even mow our yard anymore because of the tree/barn swallows. I know logically they are eating bugs, but they swoop and dive at me and I just can't stand it. Even if I see a dead one I'll hop off the mower and let it keep going.

I've never wanted my son to be afraid so I do have hummingbird and finch feeders hanging outside. Long as they are out and I'm in it's not too bad. I just hate their eye, feet and beak and wings...well I guess pretty much the whole bird.:)

ginab 09-14-2006 09:01 AM

you know what janet? my moms entire family are in fear of birds too..i mean
real fear, uncles and aunts and my mom... my mom goes nuts when a bird gets
too close...

Rebecca that is so odd that you mentioned aliens. I used to be afraid of the dark when I was younger. Even after I got married I would drive around until my hubby got home or drive to town, because I was afraid to be alone while it was dark. The reason being.........When my mother, younger brother, and I came home from a grade school PTA meeting, my brother and I were playing in the front yard while Mom was talking in the car with the lady who brought us home. My brother and I saw this huge, lights flashing oval object just above our neighbors house and it was humming. We ran to Mom and she and the lady heard the humming, but didn't see the oval object. It was probably twice the size of a ranch style house. I'll never forget it. Now I'm not afraid. To tell ya the truth, it just wore me out being afraid and never being able to be here at my own house alone.

I sleep with every light off. The way I feel is I don't want an intruder to be able to see where he's going and I know where everything is in my house, including my S&W 38.

Ponyup 09-14-2006 11:34 AM

snakes, terribly afraid. My husband made me go in the snake exhibit at the zoo & I freaked out. I stood in the middle of the room & tried to act like I wasn't having a panic attack (i totally was) after about a minute I bolted.

Being in a bathroom in the dark (I blame candyman, IT, & mothman profecies)

Being outside in the dark

Thunderstorms, especially if I'm home alone at night

Creepy little kids in movies (I can't even watch the commercial for the grudge)

Being in large crowds of people (such as the pit at concerts) very scary, I don't like that this crowd of strangers is controlling my moments (again panic attack insues)

I don't like bugs or spiders, but I can deal with them. (However spiders in the shower do freak me out)

Movies with bad ghosts aren't good either

hle_625 09-14-2006 11:39 AM

Im very scared of the dark! I sleep with my closet light on so that I can see. We also sleep with the bedroom door closed and locked. When we sleep with the door open I wake my hubby up all through the night bc I here noises! He got tired of that and started locking the door!

Holy freaking crap! You saw a UFO?! Do you think it was a UFO?! I'm freaking out!!

Tink 09-14-2006 12:34 PM

Heights, getting burned, and bats are my fears.
I can't even stand to see someone else up on a ladder... it physically hurts in my shins!
If a bat gets in the house I am a screaming, running mess. I used to make my Dad drive 8 miles to come kill them for me when I was living in an old farm house where they got in frequently (my hubby was working nights). I just lose all sense of reason around them.

Burns are my most extreme fear. I was burned badly on my arm as a toddler and it seems I've never gotten over it. I'd rather be eaten by a shark than burned.

I am afraid of tight places. Like the back seats of cars. I can't stand to ride in the back seat of a car. MRI's I can't do. That's my fobia.

i am scared of them too but i had to have one due to complications from a car accident- i had to take a xanax before i could even go in the room with that thing!!!

Mandy 09-14-2006 01:09 PM

MICE!!! They freak me out!!! And rats, oh man don't even wanna think of them, something about them  think it's the tails, dunno ewwwww :(
I'm scared of the dark, if i need the bathroom during the night i wake my husband up, he has to go with me.
Since we live in this house, i'm better with going to the bathroom, there's always the outside light shining in the hallway, so i focus on that.
Scary movies i can't watch them, i don't sleep if i do.

Kimberley 09-14-2006 02:27 PM

SPIDERS (especially), bugs, bees, wasps, scorpions, centepedes (anything arachnid), heights, snakes, mice, rats. The usual!;)

Jlynn 09-14-2006 02:53 PM

really small, tight spaces and heights

I could never have been a miner or built a skyscraper!

My brother and I both think it was a UFO and it scared the living daylights out of us. Neither of us have forgotten it and my mom even remembers. It's when I started being afraid of the dark. I really just got over it about 14-15 years ago. I was so tired of being afraid and I couldn't very well keep getting a baby out to ride around all the time in the dark. I will never, ever forget it.

Meg 09-14-2006 03:26 PM

Here are a few of my fears

~airplanes
~the dark
~mirrors in the dark (I did "bloody mary" as a child and I swear she is in there waiting for me.
~rest stops along the freeways

but in all honesty my BIGGEST FEAR is losing somone else I love. I recently had one of the people I love the most in the world pass suddenly, and it was the hardest thing I have been through. Everytime my phone rings I am nervous to answer it.

You know, up until a few years ago, I had never met anyone afraid of birds, but now I know at least 5. It's horrible to be that afraid and I mean I actually panic and totally lose it.

It's the only time I'm glad my furbabies bark. But I'd rather an intruder fumble around in the dark and me know how to manuver in my dark house. When I'm alone, "my little buddy" is right close, so I'm not afraid anymore. I've taken courses and target shooting is one of my favorite things to do. I usually use my sister-in-law as the target.....LOLOLOL

I would have to say that I am scared to death of storms! I freak out and start cleaning just to get my mind off of things. My other fear would be spiders. I can handle the little ones. it is the big ones that freak me out. We have a TON of black widows and wolf spiders in the area we live. Needless to say I actually loose it and will start to shake and cry IF I can't manage to get away from it. One time there was one over my door way and I could get in the house. I thought I was gonna Pee myself. I went and got the LONGEST broom I could possibly find and ANY kind of spray whatever in the shed that I could find. I didn't care if it damaged paint or wood I just wanted it DEAD. It took me an hour to kill that damn thing and when I finally did I was completely exhausted. You would have thought I had just run a race! LOL Needless to say it took a while to quit shaking.

I know this sounds funny but I really don't have any fears... I love snakes, storms, heights..etc. about everything that everyone has listed that normal people are scared of are things I enojoy. Like heights and things I get a rush out of. use to love to find the biggest tree I could when I was younger and climb them just for the rush of being up so high. I'm talking about trees that are way higher than telephone poles. I'm remember looking down on the tops of poles.... The only thing that I really don't care for are spiders but I wouldn't say it was a fear. I just don't like how creepy the are but sometimes I get this urge to hold them so I guess it couldn't count as a fear.

My mom has a fear of staying home alone. When my step-dad goes out of town the me and hubby have to go and stay with mom or she has to come and stay at our house. She always fears that someones going to break in. She's never had a bad experience or anything, she doesn't know why she freaks out so bad. If I'm staying with her while my step-dad's gone and we come home after dark she makes me walk inside and open all the doors and walk upstairs to make sure no ones in the house. I'm glad it didn't rub off on me. When I had an apt. bymysel b4 I got married she would call me alll the time to make sure no one was breaking in my house.
