We Had Storms Last Night!

Yesterday it was near 50 and rainy. Then last night these horrific winds came and there has been significant damage throughout central Indiana. Our school had a varsity game last night and the power went out and the game was postponed. Also some damage on the east side of Frankfort. I was so afraid our lights would go out, but thank God they didn't. We are total electric and got to keep them babies warm. We do have a generator, but it would take about 30 minutes to get it up and running.

This morning we have a two hour delay...the temp dropped to 9 degrees and everything is froze up. It rained and snowed but there were just a few flurries. We do have water at every sink except for the kitchen..it's on the side where the wind hits. I wish they would have just called school altogether.

NOW we are under a winterstorm watch for Thursday night and Friday morning. Suppose to keep having wind plus a chance for up to 8 inches. Said they won't predict any more than that, but the inches could come down some. Man, I hope so...I don't want any more snow.

Hope the rest of you all are doing okay weatherwise.

Same here in PA, the winds are so bad, we lost power last night, Thank God my Son is our alarm clock, or we would have been late for work, Micah is always up around 4 am.. Thank God... i been late so many times for work, my boss is going to freak on me one day.:(

Ponyup 01-30-2008 05:11 AM

You know we had the same thing janet, but we didn't lose power or anything. We took our g-pa to dinner last night & when we left for dinner it was 50 & pouring rain. When we came out it had dropped 10 degrees & the rain was coming & a slant & the gusts of wind were intense. My g-pa doesn't get around very well he can't use his one arm & his one leg doesn't work very well. Usually DH gets him in the car while I get the car warmed up. Well I looked over & the 2 of them were really struggling. g-pa's hat blew off & the umbrella had turned inside out. So I got out & ran over to help. G-pa almost went down with the wind & the slick pavement, but I held him & got the door open & shoved him inside the car, I was like super women. I was out in it maybe 2 minutes & was completely drenched, everytime that wind gusted it was like someone threw a glass of water on you.

Oh I know it was terrible. I'm glad I didn't have to be out in it, but sorry you were. Everything was froze up tight this morning, but got the kids to school and so far so good..LOL. Now I'm wondering what Friday morning is going to be like. Hopefully we won't get any snow, but if we do, I hope they call school. I really would like another 3 day weekend.

We dropped from 44 degrees to -40 wind chill in 24 hrs. Our actual temp dropped to -12 which tied the all time record (in temp drop) for this date here. We got 4" of new fluffy snow which is whipping around so bad we have 1/4 mile visibility. It's downright deadly out.

So I plan to stay inside and stay safe. I had to bring all the dogs in, so it's a circus here. But at least they're warm and safe.

Meanwhile, my family room is trashed. LOL

BBBBRRRRRRR, Tink!! Have you ever thought of moving south for the winter? You know that it's warmer in your freezer than it is outside!!!! I couldn't take it!

DianaB 01-30-2008 09:25 AM

We still have winds and the counties to the west of us have severe wind warnings. It's suppose to start snowing here at midnight and be really bad tomorrow. They're saying 4-6 inches. I just hope that it's enough that the kids get out of school!!! I love snow days!! I think that I'll have hubby stop at the store and pick up a few things.

Sorry, Janet, that you're getting snow again. Just send it all my way!!! My family will have a blast sledding in it!!! Oh, and I'm glad that your electricity didn't go off last night. I hate when it goes out in the winter time. We don't have a fireplace but I think that we should get something to burn wood in the basement.

Oh my, you guys have weather! We don't - although it is very windy here and rained this morning.

Janet - can you prepare some hot water bottles or something in case the power goes. Thse puppies can't be cold!

Good luck to everyone and be safe if you need to go out! I'm doing what Tink is - staying inside. I hate the wind. I don't have to be anywhere anyway, so I'm just relaxing today.

Oh Judy....how do you think I'm suppose to heat water for a hot water bottle...LOL. We're in the country and have a well. The well pump runs on electricity. Nice thought though. I really had it figured out in my head. If the lights went out I would get the fire started in the fireplace and then put the puppies next to my skin to stay warm until the fire got going good. I hope that would work. Hopefully it wouldn't take the hubby long to get the generator going either...that would be even better.:)

katcarasella 01-30-2008 11:27 AM

I was just listening to the local weather man, he said last nights' drop in temperature was the fastest drop in Chicago's weather history. I'm glad I got groceries yesterday during the "heat wave" cuz I'm not going out again until March:)
Stay Warm Ladies!!!

I guess I figured you could heat them up early today and that somehow they would magically stay warm???

judy 01-30-2008 03:25 PM

We have a wind advisory tonight. With all of these high buildings, it does take a lot of energy out of the wind.

A worker was blown off a building today in Brooklyn and didn't make it! Very sad.

Oh....I love magic!!!:) There would be so much I would use it for...:p

Marilyn 01-30-2008 04:29 PM

Didn't know whether to post on this thread or not. We're having a cold spell, too, but I do feel sorry for you ladies!! It's 57 deg right now, and expected to get to a low of 34 tomorrow night. We are predicted to have thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow with a high tomorrow of 65.

I absolutely cannot imagine living in Wisconsin or Indiana. Brrrrrrrr, just too cold for me. I'm a warm weather girl. Give me 80's and 90's and I'm happy!!! When it gets to 100, then I'm a little too hot.

lynne b 01-30-2008 04:50 PM

well we did loose our electricity last night. It was only off for a couple of hour's. Didn't take long for the house to cool down. Hubby got called out at midnite, there was a tree down in a little town not far from us. I am so not looking foward to the snow unless I can stay home from work. I wish spring would hurry and get here.

Okay - you started this! You would use magic for....

Tink 01-30-2008 07:49 PM

We managed a high of 2 today. LOL How silly that sounds... but we were glad to see it!
It's supposed to be warming up again tomorrow so that's something to look forward to. I truly hope this is the worst of it for the year.
I swear we HAVE to get something better built for the dogs this summer so I don't have to bring them all inside next year. 6 dogs this size in at once is a wee bit overwhelming even for me.

DianaB 01-31-2008 05:48 AM

We're suppose to get 6-10 inches of snow today!!! We got a phone call earlier this morning that school was canceled!! Yeah!!!! A snow day!!!!! So far we only have about an inch or so but it's suppose to get heavier and be windy so we might be stuck at home for awhile!!

I would use magic to help take off this weight, clean my house, clean my garage, make my husband disappear, make wars end, make winters end, make bad weather go away, always have spring and beautiful flowers...have all dogs have a loving home and they were all trained and potty trained.....do I dare go on?:p

Janet 01-31-2008 06:26 AM

Yay Diana, you got your wish! The snow is to move in here later today. A possible 4-8 inches and the weather guy said it will be a mess tomorrow morning. We are north of Indianapolis and they said it would be worse north of there. So, we'll see. I hope they cancel school for us tomorrow. I'm worried today though, because they said it would start around 11:00 this morning and my son just 'had' to drive to school. Then he is suppose to work tonight. Makes me so nervous this bad weather and bad roads.

I really want to move so bad. This is why I need the magic Judy...so I can make all this bad weather go bye...bye.

DianaB 01-31-2008 12:28 PM

I don't think that we're going to get much snow after all. :( We only have a couple of inches on the ground and I'm not sure what we'll get this afternoon. But ........it is still snowing.......barely!

Come on, Snow!!! You know that Janet doesn't want it so go ahead and leave it here!!!!!!

Janet 01-31-2008 05:37 PM

I guess we won't know for sure what we'll get until we wake up in the morning. They heaviest snow is suppose to fall after midnight. I really want a day off, but not the snow. I'm really starting to get on my nerves.....LOLOL

Marilyn 01-31-2008 08:38 PM

No snow, but it was really windy here today. I call on a coal fired power plant, and there were black coal fines flying in the air from their stockpile. It was nasty!!!

Janet 02-01-2008 03:19 AM

Well crap!!!...lolol. I wanted a day off and we are only getting a 2-hour delay. Oh well, to get a day off we'd have to get a lot of snow and I really didn't want that.

My son won't be too happy though, it's very slick out and he will be riding the bus with me. I don't want to worry about him sliding off somewhere.

judy 02-01-2008 08:15 AM

My father always told me that real, hard winter only lasts 6 weeks. He was in the wholesale produce business, so he knew these things. I don't think he was right - or at least it never seems that way.

At least we're all safe at home.

Isn't it great that God doesn't try to keep up with all of our wants? We'd have Him sooooo confused!

Janet 02-02-2008 04:20 AM

No kidding!!!! We all want so many different things.

Rub it in why don't ya? I'd like to live in a warm climate, but since my daughter lives here, I'm staying up north. I may eventually buy something small down south for the winters. Prices are really good right now. I think they're giving condos away in Florida, which I don't like, but it isn't the worst place in the winter.
