When it rains it pours!

Not only did I not get a call about the job I interviewed for, but I've been on the phone arguing with the IRS a good part of the day. You can just IMAGINE who won that one! :thumbdwn:

I'm so stressed I hardly slept last night and today instead of working out any of it, things just look worse! I was counting on my $2000+ federal tax refund to pay something very important and now they're telling me it will be June or July before I even know if I'll GET ANY of it back!

We have so few bills... but right now I feel like I'm drowning in them! They just all fell apart at once for me. My medical expenses have eaten up any savings to fall back on, so now each little bump in the road is like dropping off an embankment.

I really never thought life would be this damn hard at this stage. Sorry for being such a grump, but I'm really discouraged right now.

What a disappointment!!!! If you knew for sure you were getting the return, you could probably borrow against it at a credit union or something. The government and insurance companies can be soooo frustrating to deal with. Hope everything works our very soon.

Janet 02-29-2008 06:35 PM

Hopefully Tink they'll call and offer you the job after the weekend...I will keep you in my prayers for this.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the IRS. I hope you can get it worked out to your satisfaction. Working with government agencies can be soooo frustrating.

You're right though...seems like when it rains...it pours. Try not to let it get you down Tink...the sun will shine again.

Both of you, Tink and Janet are sooo talented. I really think you could both be successful virtual assistants. If you google "Virtual Assistant" there is all kinds of information out there. There are probably some scam organizations associated with it, so be careful. I did look into it a bit before by company changed my compensation plan. There are forum's for VA's with lots of information. People are working from their home to help professionals like real estate brokers, lawyers, contractors, people who need office help, but cannot afford, or choose not, to lease a building and hire people. Some VA's work part time for one or two clients. Others do a specific function for several people. Some publish online newsletters, others are bookeepers, some type legal documents. Medical billing is one I've heard has some scams associated with it, so you may want to avoid that.

This is just a thought, but it may be something that will work for you since you can work from your home office.

Sorry that everything is happening at once. Things will look better in a day or two. Dealing with the IRS is always difficult. Do you have anyone (a cpa?) to help you. Take care of yourself everything will work out.

Marilyn, I'd love to find another job I could do from home, but it's so hard to pick through the scams to find a legitimate one! I put in 8 yrs between 2 different web sites so have that experience in telecommuting and I STILL have trouble finding anything. It seems that working from home is enough of a dream for many that the scammers have found it to be a perfect feeding area.

What we need and would be HIGHLY successful is a clearinghouse of legitimate work from home jobs... the problem again would be sifting through the chaf to find the grain.

There was a legitimate forum that I joined and it had lots of great information for free, no strings. The forum part was similiar to 4wt only all about VA business, what works, what doesn't, how to get started, etc. Problem is, I changed internet providers and lost my e-mail that had all the information in it. I have an idea about how to get to the e-mail. If I figure it out, I'll post about it again in this thread.

Thanks Marilyn, I'd love to see it. I KNOW they exist... but hard to tell the good from the bad. :D

Janet 03-01-2008 07:34 PM

That would be great Marilyn, I would love to see it also. Ya never know what can happen...so I always keep my eyes and ears open.

Tink,

I'm sorry they haven't called yet about the job. They still may call, and if they don't - well then they're idiots (just like the judge!)

Hang in there, it always gets darkest before the dawn. Knowing you, you'll find a way to get that money sooner and you'll find the perfect job.

I'm sending you a big hug.

Tink i feel your pain,
we owed the IRS 6,000 last year, and they were charging my husband 130.00 on top of that in interest and penalties, oh boy !! i had to borrow the money off a family member to get out of this mess, and I am almost done paying it off in June. Thank God.. but they get you everytime... That is why i have an accountant do our taxes now, if anything is wrong it falls on them..... if i hadn't borrowed that money the interest would of killed us, 130.00 a month WOW !!!!! who the hell could afford that.... can't believe the IRS is allowed to charge an amount like that....

I seriously don't know whether to laugh or to cry.

I went online to check my bank account this morning and discovered that every time our check card was used over the weekend the banks computer ran the transaction twice. So we had double withdrawals (in the system) that there should have been.

They admitted that I was not the only one this happened to... and they're working to fix the problem and correct a bunch of accounts.

What next?!?

Tink...you poor girl! The only thing I can say is it has to get better! You've had enough so now it will get better!!

Gina 03-03-2008 04:53 PM
