Fresh out of the oven!
Final count 8 healthy wiggly noisy puppies!
She did have one more black pup a few hrs after she had all the others and it was still born. She had cleaned up, slept a couple hrs and convinced me she was done... so the final one took me by surprise.

Final Tally 6 girls, 2 boys
2 black girls, 4 apricot/cream girls
1 black and one apricot boys

So far I have a deposit for first choice.

Janet 04-16-2008 05:10 PM

Great news Tink!!! I am so looking forward to watching them grow. I hope you get some well deserved rest.

Dobie 04-16-2008 05:27 PM

Congrats on the new pups! How's mom doing?

Tink 04-16-2008 05:54 PM

Mom looked really beat this afternoon so I just let her sleep and took a nap myself. We both look a whole lot better tonight. LOL

I gave her a special treat for supper so she's content and laying around resting with her babies.

Forgivenmom5 04-16-2008 07:03 PM

They are darling Tink!!! I know you are taking very good care of Mom and the babies. Poor girl deserves a nap--and I thought having one baby at a time wore me out.

I wish that I lived nearby so I could stop in to hold puppies!!!! They are so cute!!! And you ended up with more of the apricot color than the black. Yay!!! I can't wait to see your pictures of them growing up! I look forward to everyone's puppy pictures!!!

judy 04-17-2008 09:02 AM

Wonderful news Tink! They are just precious. They're so soft and snuggly looking.

A job well done by both you and Canada! Congratulations!!!

Are you surpriserd by the colors?

Tink 04-17-2008 09:41 AM

Judy, I'm very happy with the colors. Black is the default color for both labs and poodles so some get all black litters which I was hoping NOT to get. The blacks are too common as a result, so any other color is good to see. The last litter out of the same parents produced 13 pups and only 3 black too so that's really good.

I've got one deposit in hand and another is supposed to be in the mail enroute to me. I had 417 views on my site yesterday so that's encouraging... at least I was successful at getting word out that they've arrived. So I'm optimistic that they'll sell.

I also have a few people on a waiting list already for Bellas pups which should arrive in about 5 weeks. So it's going to be a very busy puppy summer for me.

It's a good thing I'm not trying to hold down a full time job along with this. I'd be totally overwhelmed and crazy.

I just gave Canada a bath since she stunk something terrible form the dried "birthing mess" on her back half. She might be a water breed but she sure didn't appreciate warm soapy water. lol Her and the pups are going to see the vet in the morning. Since she had a tougher than normal time delivering I just want to make sure she's A-ok. She's acting fine, but she did pass more afterbirth this morning which is not normal this late. So she's going to be watched closely today and examined tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

Forgivenmom5 04-17-2008 09:45 AM

Hope everything is Ok with Canada. She sure has beautiful babies.

AngieDoogles 04-17-2008 10:16 AM

The pups are adorable! I'm excited to watch them grow. I hope all goes well with Canada's check-up!

katcarasella 04-17-2008 08:36 PM

I'll be watching for an update on Canada's checkup. :goodluck: Canada

judy 04-18-2008 06:18 AM

How's Canada? How are the puppies too?

Tink 04-18-2008 06:55 AM

We just got back from the Vet.
Canada has a slight fever and is still draining more than normal, so Doc put her on antibiotics this morning. She's eating well, nursing fine, etc... so it seems we caught it early. He did a thorough exam and said there are no pups left in the birth canal which was my big fear.

The Dew claws got removed without complication, and all 8 pups were judged healthy and strong.

WHEW! What amazed me is that Canada is down to 67 lbs... from her usual 82 NON-pregnant normal. Doc says she looks good at this weight so he wasn't at all concerned. LOL Gee, think she was a bit round before? lol

Janet 04-18-2008 07:14 AM

Wonderful you got such great news Tink! I had no idea Canada wasn't feeling quite normal. I know the antibiotics will get her feeling herself in no time.

Does the Dr. think she should stay around the 67 lb mark? My Penny (Golden) needs to lose so much weight, but nothing we're doing is working. She gets a weigh maintenence food at the quantiy the Vet prescribed and she gets plenty of exercise, but it's not coming off very fast. She's weighing 83 lbs now and you can sure tell it...LOL.

I hope Canada gets to feeling her ole self soon. Can't wait to see more of the puppies.

Tink 04-18-2008 07:19 AM

Yes Janet, he'd like to see her stay at 67 lbs. She's always been a bit of a tub... built more like a rottie than a lab. But she loves her food, is Queen bee among the pack and gets what she wants come hell or high water when outside with the others.

Now that she's been a house dog it's much easier to regulate her food intake. I hope I can keep her at this weight since it would certainly be healthier for her.

judy 04-18-2008 07:23 AM

That's good news Tink. We have a new, thin Canada and 8 healthy babies! I'm so glad you caught it early and she's on antibiotics.

katcarasella 04-18-2008 08:19 AM

:thankyou: for the update Tink, glad to hear she's on the mend.

Forgivenmom5 04-18-2008 12:19 PM

Really glad to hear Canada is doing well!!!

Emmsmom 04-19-2008 03:34 PM

Glad to hear that mom and the pups are doing so well! Congrats!

Gina 04-19-2008 05:06 PM

Thanks for the update. Mom and babies are well. good news :)

katcarasella 04-19-2008 06:05 PM

Tink, I need a Canada and puppy update. :excited::excited:

protodog 04-20-2008 10:26 AM

The pups are darling, and I hope Canada is starting to feel better. Are you thinking of keeping one? Do you do F1bs or just F1s? I recently bathed an F1b goldendoodle puppy. For a puppy, he was remarkably easy to work with--gonna grow into a really good dog.

I like the black ones. There's a black F1 labradoodle who comes to my kennel for grooming. He gets a schnauzer haircut, and it looks really cute on him. He kinda has the look of a giant schnauzer but with the easier to work with temperament of a retriever.

Chandra Amaya 04-20-2008 10:50 AM

awww how cute! how big do they get full grown? <not a dog person, but learning to love them> And I am glad Canada is doing better.

Tink 04-20-2008 11:26 AM

protodog, I breed only f1's. I have 3 Lab females and my own Poodle stud.
I know I could charge more for f1b's but I love the ease of grooming with the f1's and they've been very good natured and healthy, so I plan to stick with this generation.

I was very careful when getting my dogs to choose ones that are friendly and laid back, as I'm too old to want to deal with hyper or aggressive dogs. The result has been pups that are extremely social and mellow. One couple told me that they'd had their pup only a few weeks and had a large party in their home. The 5 month old pup laid in the middle of the party and slept or wandered from person to person introducing herself without jumping on anyone so was a real hit.

I find a lot of people my age are buying my pups for the same reasons I like them. They can look great with just a weekly brushing, and occasional facial trim and sanitary cut. They're also safe with grandkids and don't wear you out tugging when you go for walks.

Chandra Amaya, the parents are 24" tall and 64 lbs, and 20" tall and 67 lb dogs, so the pups usually grow to that range as well. Some are larger... such as Moose, a black male from the last litter. At 7 months he's 26" at the whithers and 70 lbs and of course, still growing. I think the best thing about these dogs is that they're SO people oriented and smart that they learn very quickly and want to please you.
They're not dogs you can ignore though... 'cause if you do they'll quickly become bored and find ways to entertain themselves that you most likely won't appreciate. lol

I don't plan to keep any pups even though I do always fall in love with them and shed a few tears when certain ones leave me. I want to be able to spend as much time as possible with the dogs I have so hold myself to a limit of what I can personally handle well. They get rotated in and out of the house, so all get time being spoiled and pampered and all get time in the run playing with the other dogs. The run is 32' x32' and has a dog duplex in it, so they have the choice of cuddling in one house (each is 4'x4') or sprawling out alone in one. There's a child's wading pool in there during warm weather so they can play in the water and toys so they can chew or play tug of war if the mood hits them. Since all but Canada are young dogs, they spend a large part of the day playing. So in spite of the fact that I have 4 dogs, they're still sufficiently spoiled.

Chandra Amaya 04-20-2008 11:29 AM

ah, thanks for the info, Tink. My hubby is a black lab lover and we have a limit of a thirty pound animal in our apartment. maybe someday when we get a house.

Shada 04-20-2008 01:06 PM

Tink, you have some beautiful pups!
I also have a black lab, smaller one at 53lbs. and have a 40lb muttley that sheds like no tomorrow! Between them, and the two cats I have hair balls all the time.

I have been saying for awhile now, no more shedding dogs for me. My Keller boy (worst shedder) is 16 now, and Sara the lab is 10.
When the time comes that I am ready to bring another pooch into my home, I want me a little lap dog. It will be either a maltese, or havanese.

But then again, I have always had large dogs. I love Great Danes, was fortunate to have two in my lifetime that were wonderful. Then I had a dane/lab mix Breena, that was great. Sadly the danes don't live as long as other breeds. Had a sheltie Shada, that was my heart dog.

Now, seeing your pups... wow! Snugggles is such a beauty!! I have no doubt the new litter will be just as beautiful growing up. So... thinking about a labradoodle in my future!

katcarasella 04-20-2008 01:23 PM

Tink, my dogs want to come to your house and hang out, it sounds like fun:D
I saw what I think was a Labradoodle walking down the street yesterday in my neighborhood.
it was an apricot color, I couldn't stop because I was on my way to babysit. I'm gonna keep an eye out for them, I wanted to compliment the lady on her beautiful dog. Do any of your babies live in my neck of the woods?

Tink 04-20-2008 01:32 PM

Kat, that I know of the farthest East any of my pups have gotten so far is PA. I do have someone from Connecticut interested in a pup from this litter though, so that may change in the near future.
Shada, naturally I'm biased, but I adore the Labradoodles. For my lifestyle they're ideal.

Janet 04-20-2008 01:55 PM

Well Tink, they are almost a week old now....
......WHERE IN THE HECK ARE THE PICTURES?????? :photo:

protodog 04-20-2008 06:25 PM

Tink--
I hope you don't find my questions overly invasive. I certainly don't mean them to be. Because a number of service dog organizations have had better success with doodles than with their purebred counterparts, I looked into doodles several years ago when my mother was diagnosed with macular degeneration. Essentially, she's going blind. The treatments she has received have worked better than expected, so she hasn't had the need for a service dog, and she has her hands full caring for an elderly basset. But, things may change. I've met a number of doodle dogs but not any doodle breeders, so it's nice to find you here. I hope it's okay if I pick your brain from time to time.

And Janet's right--we need updated pics. :D

protodog, I don't mind in the least. I love to talk about my dogs. I'm sure I don't know it all, but am more than willing to share what I can.

Janet, they're 4 days old and should have actually about doubled their birth weight by now.

This is a pic I took tonight. You can see how nice and round they are getting.
