Storms!!!!

Jaci had a school music program tonight along with the band playing. After the band played a couple of songs the tornado siren went off and we were all ushered into the dressing rooms. We were there for about 30 minutes or so. We were told that there was heavy rain and rotation in the clouds. Then it was decided that we should go home. The program was canceled. We came home in pouring rain and now that we're home there's hail. Jaci ran outside and got some hail that is probably golf ball sized!!! I'll get a picture later. My son-in-law is a storm spotter and he said that there's been 2 tornados that have touched down. There's still a big storm cell yet to come! Amy and the girls are here so the excitement is to the roof!!!! My SIL says that we have big hail yet to come and it's still pouring buckets. I'll let you know more later!!

Chandra Amaya 05-01-2008 05:22 PM

oh, stay safe girl! I love storms but it is scary when your family is near them.

DianaB 05-01-2008 06:14 PM

Traci, you wouldn't have liked this storm! Wait until you see the pictures of the hail!!!! I probably have some roof damage. Bummer. My daughter's worried that she may have windows broken. She lives in a double-wide trailer. The hail was the size of softballs, maybe bigger! I just wanted to bawl during the whole hail storm. We have wheat fields and corn fields, well, it's not going to be pretty. We may have another storm coming. People are going to have so much damage.

katcarasella 05-01-2008 06:18 PM

Stay safe Diana.

Diana, I am so sorry about all that damage! :( You've had a rough time with storms and flooding and now this hail! It's about time you had some GOOD luck! Stay safe. *hugs*

DianaB 05-01-2008 06:54 PM

Amy didn't have any windows broken out. The tornado warning is over. There's still a storm south of us but it looks like it will probably miss us. It rained and rained, so we've also been in a flash flood warning. Glen's gone out to check on the fields so I'll know more about them in a little bit. You can still see the hail in the yard. It was so big!!! I have pictures that I'll share tomorrow! Reuger was so scared that he just wanted to be held. The hail sounded like someone was hitting the house with a baseball bat!

Tink 05-01-2008 06:56 PM

{{{Diana}}} Thank God you all got home safely.

Several people saw funnel clouds start down and I've heard on one that was on the ground but I don't think that it was for very long and didn't do any damage, but the hail.....Oh, My Word!!!! It was awful!!!

My SIL said that we had storm chasers in the area. One group had a funny looking car and another had a satelite looking thing on top of their car! There was even a group called Tornado Tour!!!

Here's some pictures that was taken. My freezer is full of big pieces of hail that Kera and Daya carried in!!!

1. Kera and Daya holding one of the hail that they put in the freezer.
2. This shows the hail as it came down. We had to take this from the back door because the front of the house was getting pounded and believe me, you didn't want to be out there!
3. Another picture of the hail as it came down. The rain was pouring down too and because the hail was so cold we had fog develop briefly.

4. Here's some of the hail that was picked up.
5. The hail on the pop can was the largest that was brought in. It was 3" X 2 5/8" and 2 1/2 " tall. It weighed 4.7 oz.
6. This piece of hail looked like a flower in the center. It was the second largest hail that was brought in. It was 3 1/4" X 2 3/4" and weighed 3.4 oz.

Janet 05-02-2008 01:46 PM

Diana I'm so glad you are safe!! Those pictures are amazing. Can't wait to show my son.

goofywife 05-02-2008 01:58 PM

I am glad you are ok! The first round developed over us. The second round was nasty during the night. Same, hail rain and really strong wind.

Tink 05-02-2008 02:05 PM

That's amazing and potentially deadly!
MAN it would hurt to gt hit by something like that!
I bet the local car dealerships were a mess after!

DianaB 05-02-2008 02:40 PM

When I talked to my daughter she said that they had much smaller hail in town not the big stuff like we had. I was really worried because she just bought a new car (well, new to her anyway) and I was hoping that she'd put it in the garage.

We have leaves all over everywhere where they were pummeled from the trees and you could really smell the cedar trees when it was all over! I heard that a neighbor had several windows broken. Glen had the front window in his pickup broken and a lot of hail damage. We're not too worried about it though. It's just a work truck. He still hasn't checked the roof. It looks good from the ground but he's going to have to go up and check it.

Glen said that the wheat field and corn field doesn't look too bad. He thinks that maybe they didn't have hail as bad as we had here. Thank you, Lord!!!

katcarasella 05-02-2008 03:50 PM

I know your my friend Diana, but did you have to send that storm to me?
It's storming like crazy here now. There's a big ole tree limb in my front yard.:(

Chandra Amaya 05-02-2008 06:10 PM

I am glad your crops seem to be alright Diana and very glad that your family is safe and kat if you get hail like that... duck and cover!

Sorry Kat!! I tried my best to send it a different direction!!!

Janet 05-03-2008 03:29 AM

They were calling for us to get some of the bad in the storms, but it missed us. We got some rain, wind, thunder and lightning, but nothing too bad at all. Today is suppose to be nice, up in the mid 60's. I love springtime, but not the storms it brings with it.

Glad everything is good with you Diana..showed Ricky the pictures and he was shocked.

DianaB 05-03-2008 10:15 AM

Tell Ricky that it would have been very exciting to be here. The girls were running everywhere! In and out, in and out. I don't know how many pieces of hail that I have in my freezer, but they all represent a trip in and out!!!! Of course, the scanner was picking up the storm watchers which created it's own excitement. I just wanted to cry. I knew that the brick wouldn't be hurt but I was worried about the guttering, roof, and my windows and the kids' homes. And, poor Reuger just wanted to be held!

Gina 05-03-2008 11:05 AM

OMG!! Diana I have not posted in a few days. Wow that hail looks like snowballs. I have never seen anything like that before.. I have to show my husband the photos. Unbelievable!!! Thank God that you are all safe. I wouldn't want to think of someone getting hit with that size hail.. Could be deadly wow...

judy 05-03-2008 05:00 PM

Thank God everybody is safe!

Diana,

I love your attitude. The girls running in and out, the beautiful pictures, and all through a terrible storm. You are wonderful!

DianaB 05-05-2008 09:55 PM

I walked out in the yard today to check on how my irises did during the storm and there's holes all over the yard. I first thought, oh no, an armadillo got in the yard and was digging but I soon realized that the holes were everywhere. They were from the hail hitting the ground. Some are about 2-3 inches deep!!

goofywife 05-06-2008 04:54 AM

Diana, Did you get the storms last night too?

Tink 05-06-2008 06:57 AM

Wow Diana, can you imagine the impact that would have had one anyone outside at the time? Thank God everyone was safely under cover.

Janet 05-06-2008 07:01 AM

I can't believe your grandkids didn't get bruises going out after the hail. They sure are brave or have a high pain tolerance...LOL

teri88 05-06-2008 07:07 AM

I am scared to death of tornados! (Too much Wizard of Oz lol) I'm glad you were ok. Stay safe!

We had some rain last night but I slept through it so it must not have been too bad. My husband said that it rained hard. We have a pretty good chance of rain for the next few days. We keep a close eye on the internet weather when storms come in. We're too far to hear any sirens that go off in town.

Actually, I found out that their Mom wouldn't let them out in it so Jaci put a bucket over her head and was running all over everywhere. She said that she got hit on the back and that it did hurt. She is so daring! She always has bruises and scrapes and hurts!!!

goofywife 05-06-2008 01:57 PM

They are predicting severe storms and tornado's for tomorrow.

I know we're suppose to have some rain tomorrow, but I'm gonna have to check the net and see if any storms are headed here. I sure hope not.

I didn't see anything about tornadoes for today, but we do have a lot of rain. We're in a flood watch. The river will come up but it won't be anything like last year. We usually have floods in the spring. The river close to us is Fall River and it's named that because the river rises and falls quickly. We have slight chances of rain until Sat. and Sun. when the chances go back up again. Hubby will be cranky by then!!!! He's got a lot of work to do.

goofywife 05-07-2008 09:10 AM

We all jumped out of bed this morning, compliments of the thunder. It has been raining all day. I didn't watch the weather this morning to see if they changed their minds on what it was going to do.

Diana I just saw this post. I am so glad you are all safe. I think I would have been like Reuger.

DianaB 05-08-2008 08:06 AM

We had our insurance adjuster here just a while ago and our roof and guttering has to be replaced. He said that through this area and a little bit south was the worst area. Bummer!

goofywife 05-08-2008 08:28 AM

I am sorry, hopefully you do not have a high deductible.

Forgivenmom5 05-08-2008 04:41 PM

Sorry it caused damage but from the looks of the hail i can understand.

Janet 05-08-2008 05:11 PM

Diana that hail was huge, I'm surprised really, that there wasn't more damage, but I'm sure glad there wasn't.

Thank goodness you have insurance.

Emmsmom 05-11-2008 05:59 AM

Wow! At least everyone is safe! That would have just scared me half to death. I am terrifed of storms period. Doesn't matter how small or big. If I had hail that size coming down in my yard I think I would have lost it. One year we had a tornado go through our town. We had marble size hail coming down and I was a wreck then. I am glad everyone was safe.

donna1990 05-11-2008 10:44 AM

Storms

That is so scary, glad you are safe.
We have pea size hail in FL but when I lived in MN it was golf ball size. I missed it, was in an airplane from FL to MN and we had to fly to Canada and wait for the storms to end. My car looked like in had BIG chicken pox, the roof and siding on our home had to be replaced.
Storms this year are so bad.
Dread hurricane season.

I agree! I hope everything works out well for you Diana. You have just had the worst luck with weather the past year or so... :(
