Surgery is tomorrow

1 Attachment(s)
Nuts, was suppose to fast by midnight for surgery tomorrow at 8:30 AM, they called and changed the time of surgery to 12 noon and I still have to fast by midnight.
I will have a splint on my arm and have to keep it raised up for 2 weeks, so that it does not swell, or will have permanent nerve damage. Could be worse.
Have to wrap it up for 2 weeks when I take a shower, it can not get wet.
Just pray that I can keep my cool. So feed up with this medical profession.

Gina 12-18-2008 05:13 PM

Donna, I want to wish you good luck tomorrow. Don't worry things will turn out fine....

gja1000 12-18-2008 08:36 PM

I hope everything goes well for you. Do what they tell you as much as possible and you should do well. It won't be easy, recovery from surgery rarely is. Take care! :)

Janet 12-19-2008 03:58 AM

Donna, I wish you a fast recovery! Have you in my prayers!

Marilyn 12-19-2008 04:38 AM

Wishing you a very successful surgery and extremely speedy recovery!!!!

2tiredmom 12-19-2008 11:40 AM

Donna,
My prayers are going up for you also. Keep your chin up. Remember God only gives you what he thinks you can handle. God Bless you....:getwell:

Gina 12-20-2008 06:06 AM

Donna, I hope all went well. When your up to it come back and post to let us know.. I wish you a speedy recovery.

donna1990 12-20-2008 11:41 AM

Everything if fine. I was in surgery for an hour, can use my fingers but can't lift anything for 6 weeks, keep the elbow elevated and ice on and off for 20 min., have to stay on darvoset every 6 hours and watch for bleeding. My arm is really wrapped up but see blood seeping through. It is a difficult position to get the arm elevated and the ice pack in a position to get the right spot. Go back Mon. to have it checked.
I have had no had any pain as he said I would. Must be all of the prayers for you girls. The worse part was waking up and so sick, they gave me some medication that put a stop to that quickly.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
So happy I can type.

judy 12-20-2008 04:55 PM

Dear Donna,

How wonderful that it is over and you are not in pain! I am so happy and rfelieved for you. You are still in my prayers for a quick recovery.

I'm so sorry I didn't answer your emails. The computer was not cooperating at all.

Love you,

Judy

Janet 12-20-2008 05:56 PM

Glad everything went well Donna. I hope you have a quick recovery.

DianaB 12-27-2008 09:09 AM

I'm glad to hear that your surgery went so well. How are you doing now that you've had a few days to recouperate?

donna1990 12-27-2008 10:20 AM

I have good days and bad days. I have to sleep on the sofa so that I stay on my right side and if I just bump the sofa with my elbow, the pain sends me to the moon. Another 5 weeks to go.
Thanks for asking.

AngieDoogles 12-27-2008 11:28 AM

I'm sorry you've had to have surgery. My mom is still recovering for her surgery so I know what a long and frustrating process it can be. I hope you continue to get better and better!

Thanks so much GF. What kind of surgery did your Mom have? Hope she gets better soon.

She had a mastectomy. It was a while back, but it was the type of surgery that she will never recover 100% from. Like you, every once in a while, she'll do something and have pain unexpectedly. Her arm also gets tired really quickly.

What was your surgery for? Did it fix the problem?

Oh my, did she have cancer?
I had nerve entrapment in my elbow due to an injury. If not for the surgery, I would never have any use of my left arm.
God bless her.

AngieDoogles 12-27-2008 12:27 PM

She did, but it's gone now. She still goes to see her oncologist and surgeon regularly and gets blood work and hormone pills, but she's doing so well considering the stage she was in. We were really blessed!

I'm so sorry to hear about your injury, but I'm glad it's being fixed and you'll still be able to use your arm. Just take it easy and give yourself plenty of recovery time!

donna1990 12-27-2008 12:45 PM

I am trying real hard with the recovery time. Have a hard time with not being able to clean my home. I am THE ONLY FEMALE in my family.

Give the guys some chores! ;)

Janet 12-27-2008 05:20 PM

Donna, you need to demand some help. Just pass out some chore lists and then make them follow it. Hopefully you're recover more quickly than anyone thought, but in the meantime..make them help you!

DianaB 12-28-2008 10:42 PM

Donna, I'm glad to hear that you're doing so well. I agree with Janet that they guys can help out with the chores. It sure won't hurt them and maybe they'll appreciate you a little more!!! You just take care of yourself and don't try to over do!!!

Marilyn 12-29-2008 08:46 PM

Hoping all is still going well. Don't worry about your house. There will be plenty of time to catch up. You need to take the time to heal properly so you can be in tip-top shape for the long term!! Wishing you a healthy and speedy recovery!!

AngieDoogles 12-29-2008 09:36 PM

I hope you felt better today than yesterday! Keep taking it easy.

Janet 12-30-2008 06:02 AM

Donna, how you doing today? Hope things have improved with the help situation.

judy 12-30-2008 07:57 AM

Donna,

How's that arm today? Leave the house. Believe me, the dust and mess will patiently wait for you.

donna1990 12-30-2008 11:18 AM

WONDERFUL, the Doctor said that I am one in many that will not need physical therapy. Have no problems with movement, JUST DON"T BUMP THE ELBOW.
:cry::cry:
Thanks for thinking of me.

AngieDoogles 12-30-2008 11:52 AM

So is it a good thing or a bad thing that you don't need PT? Does that mean you're healing properly on your own?

How are you feeling today?

It is a miracle, a good thing. Most people lose the mobility in their arm, wrist and hand. Mine is as strong as before the surgery. But it could be bad if I don't remember not to lift anything heavier than a coffee cup for another month. NO PAIN, they just can't believe it.

DianaB 12-31-2008 08:54 AM

That's great news!!! Just don't over do it!!!

Love you and have a Happy New Year!

That is wonderful Donna! I'm so glad you are recovering so well! I hope the next month goes really quickly for you so you can get back to doing all the things you want to do.

Donna I am glad you are doing better. It is so hard to not be able to do the things you should. My surgery was in April and I still can't do a lot of things. I get tired really easily and still have some pain when I try to do things. I got really frustrated today when it hurt too much for me to get the tree down.

We just need to remember as long as we feel better those things shouldn't matter but it is still hard.

I am so sorry you are still having such a hard time. What were you doing trying to get a tree down?????
I laid on my left side for a bit this morning, first time since my surgery.
Take care.
Donna

I don't know if it's stubborn or determined but I did get the tree down and the sectional cleaned and moved back in place. Finally!!

And yes I know you and Brendon offered to help and so did Bobby.

I thought you were going to wait for Bobby to help!? You need to behave or I'll have to come over and make sure you aren't overexerting yourself!!
