Barn Bash 2009
We're planning our Barn Bash for the last weekend in May, and this year I'm taking all my doggies. Last year, I paid a neighbor teenager to care for them. Hubby and I always get the cottage at my son's house and it has a good fence around it, so I'm going to take them and pray for no disasters. I know I'll end up keeping them in crates most of the time.
This is going to be loads of fun, with family, friends, neighbors, even co-workers. We're getting a bigger pig this year and will probably end up renting a camper sleeper. Heck, there's 18 just counting hubby, me, kids+, and g-kids. Then, there's the in-laws, my sister+, cousins, neighbors. I'm counting probalby 80 people to be there, hopefully not all at the same time! Hubby will drive his truck with doggie crates and pull a trailer with 4-wheelers. I'll drive my Tahoe with doggies and there will be groceries and stuff stashed in every corner. I usually shop here and transport it, so I have more visiting time there. |
Is this a family reunion? Or just a get-together? It sounds like fun, whatever it is!! I love a good hog roast!!! Yum!!!
|
Oh how fun. I would love to have a barn bash. But if i had my way I would live in a barn. I love barns. they are the greatest thing invented. I also collect barn stuff. Have fun....
|
It's something Jeff wanted to start. Last year, it was just our little immediate family, his MIL and FIL, and his closest friend Wade +2 kiddos. So, it's not actually our family reunion as in blood relatives, but since some of the friends have been around for 20+ years we feel like they are family (some are Godparents to our g-kids).
This year, he's inviting the world - COME ON OVER. Last year, we had a 39# pig. We'll need a much bigger one this year, maybe from the 4H Club auction tomorrow night. My g-daughter, Christian, is showing her pig (BonBon) tomorrow night. |
That sounds like a ton of fun! How many dogs are you taking?
|
I love a good hog roast too. So darn good and with all the carry-in dishes...Yum Yum! Sounds like a great time.
|
I'm taking 6 doggies - the 5 Yorkies and 1 ShihTzu. We don't travel much and they are usually good on trips.
|
I sure wish that I lived closer because I'd go get Janet and drive on over!!!! It sounds like lots of fun!!! I could even bring my 4-wheeler.

Don't you love the 4-wheeler? Unfortunately, I get too brave on our big one and want to "cut up". |
Wow, that sounds like a really fun time!!! How do you cook the pig?? BBQ??
|
We have a big homemade smoker (on wheels) that they smoke it in. The men will put one on and sit out by it most of the night - drinking and lying! It actually becomes more of a pulled pork, so tender and falling apart that you just pick it up with your fingers and dip it in your sauce. We put some in tortillas for the kiddos.
I plan to buy as much already prepared side dishes as I can. Jeff & Emily actually have 5 refrigerators and freezers, so keeping things cold is no problem. |
You know, that sounds like a lot of fun!!!
|
Nothing better than a good ole pig roast!!!
Wish you were closer.. I would crash your party!! |

A couple of our neighbors have golf carts and a couple have mules. This time of year the road our dirt road is full of ripples from the 4-wheelers running rampid! I think my foot's ready to get back on my 2-wheeler, but my lazy butt is procrastinating.

Here's a mule......
|
Yep, looks like a mule to me. The only kind I will ever ride, that is;)
|
Hey Betsi, that's my preferred mule ride too - although I have ridden the four legged kind many moons ago! :D
|
Mules and golf carts are all over some of the plants I call on, only they aren't as clean and pretty as the one in the pic. I ride in them frequently to visit customers. Yep, hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, riding in a mule. That's the life. LOL
|
What I wonder is how they got the name "mule"????
|
Cause they work so hard?! I swear those things will almost climb straight up. I think Frank and Linda's is just like the one in Diana's picture. Danny and Susan's is green. I wanted to get a Kubota to match Harold's tractor, but he talked me out of it. I think I like my 4-wheeler better!

I wear the traditional white, visitor hardhat, unless a plant requires that I wear theirs. Alcoa makes visitors wear a florescent green hardhat and vest. My vest is always way too big. It looks like an ugly smock. LOL |
Yep - I had three different hat for my different job duties. I was Project Secretary, on the Safety Steering Committee and at the end I was Yard Office Manager (over all offices). So, I had/have a white hat, a gold hat, and my pink one. To be fashionable, I had/have a black pair of boots and a brown pair.
I recently went out to Delta's Fab Yard and Kiewit's and wore the pink hat because I know people at both yards and knew they'd be expecting me to come bold! I LOVED my seven years at the Brown & Root Fab Yard. |

I've been trying to get Kewit's business, in Ingleside, but they have been a tough nut to crack. There's an inside sales woman at a competitor down there that they really like. She is tough to compete with. I have inside sales guys, and it's just not the same. |
Marilyn, our project (Thunder Horse) is mostly gone out of Kiewit. The people I know at that yard work for BP or Technip. I don't know if my Hubby knows anybody in Management or not.
Trust me, my pink hat doesn't lessen the respect I get from anybody. They know the person that wears the hat, no matter what color it is. |

Sandy, you should make that your avatar pic. You look very nice in your pink hardhat. Here's mine. As you can see, it's never been worn. LOL
Attachment 5077 Now the one I saw in a customer's office was hot pink. I was wondering which color you had. Love it!! |
The reply was all spellchecked. Sorry.
|
You got me curious about the colors of hard hats. I decided that if I had to wear a hard hat, I would definitely design my own. There's a nice coppery one that I saw.
I would have it done up with designs, like motorcycle or snowmobile helmets have. I think I might have one made now! You just never know when you're going to need a hard hat! ;) |
