It RAINED!!!

It actually rained last night. Not sure how much we got. Hopefully I'll find out today. It got really cloudy during our Wednesday night Bible classes and when we got out, it was lightening and a few drops were falling. Our family went to Johnny Carinos for supper and on the way there, it really started to rain. Not enough to need an umbrella getting from the car, but real rain. On the way home, it started raining harder. Not sure if it rained much during the night. Our home is pretty well insulated, and we don't really hear the rain unless it's a violent storm and coming down really hard.

I just looked outside, and the sidewalk is dry, so not sure how long it rained. But at least we got something!!!

I'm working with a man for Odessa, West Texas, this week and he was amazed how dry it is here. They've had more rain in the desert of West Texas than we have here.

Just found in our local paper, we got 0.28 inches of rain last night. Would you believe there were power outages? The rain somehow damaged a transformer box.

DianaB 08-13-2009 04:43 AM

Yay!! :cheer: Hopefully this will be a break in the weather and more will be coming your way!!!

gja1000 08-13-2009 11:16 AM

GREAT!!! I know you are thrilled.

There were spotty showers all around Austin, but I didn't get any at my house. :( But I am so thankful that some here in Texas did get some much needed rain!!!

We had such a crazy rain storm a few evenings ago, it sounded like the world was coming to an end. All of the dogs were upset... I even started getting worried! I've never heard or seen anything like that. Lately we've had a couple local tornados  about 5 minutes from us.

Marilyn 08-13-2009 06:08 PM

We learned today that the rain in this area varried from 1/4 inch to 2+ inches, and there were apparently some strong winds and perhaps even a tornado. Some old trees were knocked down, and a rather large barn had it's roof lifted and dropped as a pile of rubble several yards away. Power outages in the area yet today. All we saw was thunder and lightening with the rain where we are.

Today was bright and sunny again, but we didn't need to run the sprinklers this evening. :)

judy 08-15-2009 09:00 AM

Hurray!!! It is so good that you got some rain.

Marilyn 08-17-2009 03:44 AM

We got another little shower Saturday night. We woke up to wet sidewalks. Not sure how much, but at least it was something!!

gja1000 08-17-2009 03:58 AM

We havent' had a drop this round :(

But with all the action in the caribbean right now, perhaps we will soon!

Marilyn, glad you got rain. Have you ever noticed that when you need rain so badly - EVERY TV SHOW and MOVIE HAS RAIN IN IT!

I hadn't really thought about it, but you are sooo right!! LOL

We got a good shower at work yesterday, not sure if we got any at home though. Lots were watering yesterday evening, so I'm guessing we didn't.

We are still way behind and have a long way to go to get out of drought conditions. Rationing is still on.

Tiramisu 08-18-2009 01:02 PM

I came home to clean my carpet while my daughter and g-kids are away and we got 102 drops! Yes, everytime I see rain, I call my hubby and tell him it's raining 88 drops or 24 drops! I'm certifiable, but every drop counts!

Blueyes 08-18-2009 05:06 PM

We got a little rain this afternoon, too!! Also had some nice rumbly thunder!!

DianaB 08-19-2009 06:41 AM

We had a really bad storm last night about 3:30. Lightning was everywhere. I don't know how much rain we got but it sounded like it poured.

We have a 90% chance of rain today with a 70% chance tonight. The ones tonight are suppose to be severe again. I'm ready for some sunshine!!! It's been cloudy for the last few days.

I wish that I could send this rain to Texas. We've got enough right now.

DianaB 08-19-2009 04:01 PM

Here is our forecast for tonight......

AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG COLD FRONT WILL COMBINE WITH A POWERFUL UPPER DISTURBANCE TO PRODUCE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA TONIGHT. ANY STORM THAT DEVELOPS TONIGHT WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE SEVERE. THE STRONGER STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING GOLF BALL SIZE HAIL AND WINDS TO 60 MPH. THERE WILL BE A BRIEF TORNADO THREAT THROUGH AROUND 10 PM FOR LOCATIONS GENERALLY SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST OF WICHITA. OVERNIGHT STORMS WILL ALSO PRODUCE HIGH RAINFALL RATES WHICH MAY CAUSE SOME LOCALIZED FLOODING...ESPECIALLY OVER EXTREME SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST KANSAS.

It doesn't sound very good, does it? We have heard thunder ALL DAY LONG. No kidding. The storms have gone around us but still we could hear the thunder. We now have a storm that's building right to the west of us so I'm keeping an eye on the weather..........................again. I think that I'm going to go and move my flowers back onto the porch and put my 4-wheeler in the garage. Just in case........

DianaB 08-19-2009 04:08 PM

I just checked on Janet's town and the warnings are worse for her than they are for me!!!! Janet, I hope everything's alright!!!!

gja1000 08-19-2009 06:15 PM

I'm looking at the radar right now in Kansas and it looks like there are bad storms all around you. I hope you are OK!!!

Marilyn 08-20-2009 03:34 AM

How are y'all doing? Did the bad weather that was predicted show up?

We're just getting a very small shower once in a while. Nothing to really help very much, but as Sandy said, every drop counts. We need it so badly. We're hearing that next month the drought may break.

Tiramisu 08-20-2009 07:01 AM

Everybody check-in!

After work yesterday, I made the PetSmart run (about 16 miles away) and the sky was really bad looking, but we only got a sprinkle at my house (12 drops).

DianaB 08-20-2009 08:39 AM

I'm here. We had some really bad storms last night. My SIL was called out as a storm spotter because there was a storm that could have produced a tornado, but it was south of us. He brought Kera and Daya over here because Amy wasn't home and I know that he would have called us first had there been a problem. Again, we had lightning everywhere!! We got .6 inches of rain but south of us I'm sure that they got much more! I think that the stormy weather is finally over and I'm so glad. The storms we had this week were awful!! We really keep an eye on the weather on the internet and last night our internet went out but by that time we knew that the storms were almost over. Thanks so much for your concern, Gayle!

Marilyn 08-21-2009 03:44 AM

Glad to hear you are okay. I think the threat of tornados in your area is scarier than the threat of hurricanes here on the coast. We get lots of advance notice. Tornodos can come on so quickly with no notice.

DianaB 08-21-2009 07:26 AM

We don't have tornados very often and when we do they're not the huge ones. We seem to be out of the area for the really big ones. We've had two tornados that I can remember. One went over several houses, including where my Grandma lived, but ended up killing one man who lived in the country. Another one touched down in the center of town and took the front off of a church. Wichita and west of there is where they get a lot more and bigger ones.

Marilyn 08-22-2009 06:39 AM

We had a real thunder shower late last night. It rained for quite a while. Our DirectTV even went out for a bit. It's been quite a while since we had anything like that. Everything looks all moist and dewy this morning. It's so nice to have moisture!!!! Hope we keep seeing more!!!!

We don't have a rain gauge, so I don't know how much it was, but more than any of the other showers we've had recently. :cheer:

DianaB 08-22-2009 10:51 AM

I'm so glad to hear that you finally had a good shower. If your DirecTV went out then it rained pretty hard. I'm sure that you really enjoyed the shower. I hope that more is headed your direction.

judy 08-22-2009 02:23 PM

We have had rain since yesterday, and lost electricity. It's back on now, but I don't know how to start up my hot water heater.

I'm going to ask my SIL.

Marilyn 08-23-2009 04:57 AM

Oh, Judy, so hope you get the hot water heater going soon!!! It's so frustrating then things like that go you and you don't know how to fix it!!! Cold showers are no fun!!
