I guess that I've been in a creative mood. It might be because I've had the TV on HGTV a lot lately!! Anyway, when I went to Kansas City a couple of weeks ago I bought some silk flowers to make a bouquet for my bathroom. I had found a metal thing to hang on the wall (I have another one like it with another bouquet in it). I spray painted the metal thing and arranged my flowers in it today. I'm really, really pleased with it!! I think that it's inspired me to do some changing in my bathroom.......hmmmmm.....I'm going to have to look for some pictures now!! Attachment 5590Attachment 5591 I also made another arrangement yesterday. I really hadn't planned this one but I found a really cute pottery vase and Alco had their flowers for 40% off so I found some things and put them together. I put it on the other side of the room from my painted wall to add some color there. The flowers were on bunches and I just stuck them in together then I cut up the red stringy thing and put them in in smaller bunches to get them evenly in the arrangement. Again, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. |
You should be Diana...you did an amazing job. I'm not good at that sort of thing, but you have definitely got an eye and the talent to put it together.
|
Those are BEAUTIFUL!!!! I can NOT arrange flowers no matter how hard I try, lol!! You are inspiring me, Diana:D BTW... Love HGTV!!!

Diana those are absolutely gorgeous! You are one talented lady! I love all of them espicially the third pic.. that one is my favorite!! I was at the peddlers mall with my Mom on Monday and got a really good deal on three vases. If you don't mind I am going to post a pic and you give me some ideas on colors to use. You should open your own florist:) Girlfriend you did a fabulous job:thumbup:

Very nicely done!! I love it!!
Next trip to town, I might have to take a look at some silk flowers... hmmm |
Paula, on the vases with the hummingbird, I think that I'd either make my main flowers pink or blue with accents of the other color and a white or cream. Then I'd pick out something to fill in that's green. Look around a place like Hobby Lobby and just start putting some things together. I might point out that the vases all have a very small neck so it's going to be limited on what you can put in it.
A lot of florist shops will put arrangements in your vases for you and they ususally do a good job and they'll make them in the colors that you want. |
The morning glories on those 2 vases are so, so pretty!

Diana what a beautiful job you did.. Wow! your talented.. Hey girlfriend why don't you do that for a business from home. Sell them on ebay and I will buy from you to ;)
|
Paula those vases are really lovely. You'd think after being the daughter-in-law of florists for 35 years I'd have pleany of vases, but I really don't have any.

The big blue flowers are morning glories! And the vases are GORGEOUS! I don't have a clue about aranging flowers or colors either! We ALL need Diana!
|
You all are making me blush!! I wish that I could show you how easy it is with the right flowers.
|
Those are gorgeous Diana! You really are an artist! The orange vase is amazing!
What are the hanging reddish thingies? I love them! Paula - you have to share pix after you finish the vases. I have a bunch of vases to do. I got some branches that my SIL cut down, and they look really good. I have some other dried stuff, but not enough yet. I was going to dry some of the greens and grasses from around here, but I think it's too late. We have had a couple of frosts already. Next year.... |
Judy, the hanging red things were actually on one stem all together. I cut them apart and stuck them in smaller groups all through the other flowers.

Diana,
I have been trying to find places with a nice assortment of dried and silk flowers, but it's just not the same as in NY. I had a Rag Shop in Brooklyn that had the greatest flowers! They went out of business, and everyone I knew, who did any kind of crafts was so upset. There is a Michael's up here, but I don't see anything exciting on their website. I do have a local florist who is getting his in today. I'm going over there tomorrow to see what he has. Where do you get your flowers? I don't want to order online because of the S & H, and also, because I want to see them first. I wish I had known to dry my own. Any suggestions? |
We have a little store here in town called Alco. It's like a little Wal-mart but they do a really good job of getting stuff in. I really like their decorating stuff and they have good sales on things. Actually, it's called Duckwall-Alco.
http://www.duckwall.com/ I notice from their locations that you don't have any near you. Have you checked at a Michael's craft store? I'd get some stuff for you but they've sold out of all the fall stuff and they only have Christmas stuff in now. |

He is getting in his dried flowers this weekend, so hopefully, I can get what I need from him. I also found another local florist who had some nice stuff. The businesses here don't have websites, so it's hit or miss. |
You both are so talented to be able to arrange flowers. I just don't have the gift. I can usually pick an arrangement I like, but to put one together....not so much.

The florist had some nice stuff, but not much. I bought a live bunch of flowers. He told me to put them in a vase with a little water, let the water evaporate and I should have a nice assortment. I never did it this way, so we'll see what happens.
I'm having fun picking out flowers and greens. I need tall red flowers or something. Maybe I'll do it your way, Diana. I can add some height with sticks. Here is the bouquet waiting to dry. |
Very pretty Judy! After they dry..do you treat them with anything to make them stay pretty like that?
|
That bouquet is very pretty Judy. I had heard a very long time ago to spray a stiff hairspray on them....do that do that?
|
That's very pretty, Judy. I've never heard of doing it that way either. I know that I've taken roses and hung them upside down and let them dry but they're not usually very pretty.
After Jaci's homecoming queen bouquet had just about run it's course I took the rose blooms (they never did quite open completely up) off of the stems and set them on a plate to dry. They are still pretty much the same color that they originally were. I'm going to get a round bowl to put them in for Jaci. You'll have to keep us posted on how good it works for you!!! |
That should work great Judy! The flowers in the arrangement will look good dried for a long time. I'm always keeping flowers from one arrangement or another, and I recognize those as the ones that last best!!
|
You ladies are doing such a good job. Love the arrangements and vases!!! Lots of talent on here!!! Diana, you did a beautiful job.
Judy, I love your tea kettle!! The flowers and hummingbird, and your arrangement to dry is very nice. The flowers in it should dry nicely. Paula, love your vases, too. I'm really partial to hummingbirds. |

I don't know if I have to spray these. We'll see! |
