mineral based makeup

I don't wear make up often, but it's time to throw out my older Mac stuff and get something new! I was thinking about changing to a mineral based product and was considering either Sheer Cover or Bare Minerals. Anyone have experience with either of these two products? Can you also tell me what's your skin type? Thanks!

Kimberley 09-07-2006 06:20 PM

I've seen the commercials for the Bare Minerals. It looks pretty good and I've thought of getting some.

ice queen 09-07-2006 07:40 PM

i have used both and i love the bare minerals...it covers alot better than the sheer cover and you don't have to use as much. it really helps if you have splotchy skin and it only takes like 3 minutes max to put it all on including eyes, lips, and cheeks. i am fair skinned and hate the way liquid base always made my face look orange and always having the base line no matter how well i blended plus liquid base feels like crisco all over my face-yuk:eek: !!! i will never go back to liquid base NEVER!!!

Sherry Lynn 09-07-2006 07:44 PM

I love, love, LOVE Bare Minerals. It is so sheer that you don't feel like you have anything on, but it evens out the skin tone and gives you a finished look at the same time. It just takes a little dab of the power, so it lasts a long time. (I think the foundation is about $25)

I can't praise the stuff enough! It's mentioned in the 'I love makeup' thread, too...

HEY Hunbun, welcome to 4WT!!! Nice to see you here!! :D

rivermom 09-08-2006 04:17 AM

I have been using Bare Minerals for almost a year now and LOVE it!! ;) My skin tone is combination ( T-Zone). The coverage is amazing and it always feels so good on my skin. As the day goes on it doesn't cake up like a liquid foundation or settle in the creases, etc. You can even sleep with it on your face for those nights you have forgotten to clean your face up. I give it a thumbs up!!

why didn't you like bare minerals???

Marilyn 09-08-2006 08:04 PM

Wow, glad to find this thread. I've been wanting to try Bare Minerals, but don't know much about it except what I've seen in an infomercial some time ago.

How do you determine what color you need? I am very fair, but not porcelin. If I use anything with a yellow hint to it, it looks awful, gets that orange look.

Also, how does it work if you have not really big pores, but big enough to be noticable?

Kimberley 09-08-2006 08:27 PM

Just curious...how much does bare minerals cost?

ice queen 09-09-2006 12:11 AM

i have pores on my nose and it covers very well esp. the mineral veil-seems like it takes 10 years off your face-wish i could do that to the rest of me-haha!!! it's really not that expensive under 50$ for the faceconcealer powder(base) and the mineral veil...it lasts a really long time though i just bought some more face-base and i have been using it for over a year-just one jar...so when you sit down and think about how much $$ you spend on liquid base, concealer, and powder per year you really are saving money in the long run if you do the bare minerals...you can go to bareminerals. com but i just get it at sephora online cuz sometimes it's even cheaper there. good luck and hope you like it!!!:D

Marilyn 09-09-2006 06:16 AM

Sounds great. I am so trying this!!!!

Marilyn 09-09-2006 06:32 AM

i didnt like it because on the dvd it says you only have to put very little on the lid and blah blah.. and your supposed to be done in like 5 minutes max or however..

but after 5 minutes i still looked like there was no makeup on.. i know some people like that look, but there was really nothing on my face.. so i always had to put tons to make my face look good... cause i have uneven skin or blemishes and it wouldn't cover it no matter how much i'd put and also it would fade off by the end of the day and im a nurse and i sweat a lot and my job always had me sweating and running around on my feet and stuff and it would just make me look oily and gross..

i guess it just didnt work out for me :)

ice queen 09-09-2006 02:02 PM

oh man..i'm sorry i hate to get my hopes up about a product and it not deliver....i use the paintbrush thing all over my face to cover my scars and little blue veins(for some reason i got them when i was pregnant and they never went away...thinking about having them zapped) plus i'm so pale being a redhead that i have to have color or i look like a corpse...my mom always tells me don't foret to put your lips on! i sweat and it stays on and doesn't make my face look oily except my t-zone in the summer time. i love my face wash, etc. (posted a thread about it) but i still have blackheads on my nose and chin...the pore strips work somewhat but is there a way i can get rid of them all together...since you have a make-up forum i figured you might know some tips!!! do tell....:p

Bare Minerals - blech

Everyday Minerals - Yay! :D

EM doesn't contain bismuth (which clogs pores and makes me itch), is a lot cheaper than BE and doesn't make me break out. You can order free samples from their website for just the cost of shipping!

Check out - Everyday Minerals

Marilyn 09-11-2006 09:56 AM

Just ordered my sample kit of Everyday Minerals. Now can compare the two and see how they work. Thank you for all the information. :)

EM has different formulations - Intensive, Matte, Semi-Matte and Original Glo... The Original Glo isn't so great, I look oily really fast. I'll blend the Matte and Semi-Matte together to get the right shade... I've heard the Intensive formula is just awesome. I keep meaning to order a sample of that...

There is a bit of a difference between the formulas. The Original Glo turned orange on me really quick (and made me really shiney), but the matte/semi-matte mix didn't. If the samples you ordered don't work too well, order another sample kit in different colors/fomulations... You can order as many sample kits as you want, but you can only get one at a time.

BTW - The sample jars are a good size. I don't need to use a whole lot and can get a couple weeks use out of 'em! Totally worth the small shipping charge!

hunbun 09-12-2006 01:36 AM

Thanks for all the great info everyone!
I just ordered my sample kit from EM as well. It would be great if it works out since BM is a little expensive and I've read several reviews about how it's kinda cakey or chalky for those with oily skin (like me!). SC seems cool too, but I don't like the idea of having to be on the hook with them for a purchase every 3 months. I just don't use makeup THAT much and having to cancel and restart every so often just to get the makeup is a bit of a PITA to me.

So excited for new makeup!

ice queen 09-12-2006 04:51 AM

OOHHHH....thanks for the mineral makeup tip...i'm gonna have to on their website and see what they got....and as for it being cheaper..whatever keeps my money in my wallet (my hubby's-haha!!!) makes me happy-plus i can save up more $ for my total body rejuvenation!!!:D :D :D

I went to a boutique in my town that sells Bare Minerals and had them do a makeover on me. It was just very heavy. And, you don't apply it like you do traditional makeup. At this point in my life, I just don't need something with so much coverage. Maybe later. Let me know how you like it, though! I have heard others give it rave reviews.

ice queen 09-12-2006 09:25 AM

KHRISTINE....thank you girl for all your help...just give me a holler when you find that book...gotta go do a nose strip:rolleyes:

I buy it at Ulta (local store.. no S&H) and the foundation is $25. It lasts FOREVER, though! I don't use the Mineral Veil... just the foundation, highlighter and eye shadows. I'm a real glitter whore, and they have some really shiny stuff. I think the eyeshadows are $12, and again, they last forever!

Sherry Lynn 09-12-2006 09:44 AM

Now I'm going to have to try the EM... they have more color options than BM does!:p

KellyV 09-12-2006 02:26 PM

I'm happy to see that everyone is trying the EM! :D
Let me know how you all like it!

ice queen 09-13-2006 09:05 AM

I just ordered the free sample kit from EM and sent my mom the info too so can't wait till it comes in and i get to play make-up!!!:D :p :D

Marilyn 09-16-2006 01:22 PM

Okay, my bare minerals arrived and I decided this afternoon to try it out. I really liked the way it went on, so I got all fixed up and went and as my husband what he thought. He wasn't sure, but thought that it made me look older, more wrinkles. He wanted me to go put on my regular makeup and let him see, so I did, and he said my regular foundation looks much better. :( :(

I really liked the idea of the Bare Minerals, and the way it went on. Maybe I need some with more coverage, but don't want to spend another $25 trying it out.

I've also ordered the sample kit for the Everyday Minerals, perhaps that will work better.

Will see....

Pink Martini 09-16-2006 04:25 PM

I just started using Bare Minerals last week. I really like it. I like the way it goes on and stays on. I also like the way you can control the amont of coverage. I'm new to it but so far I think it's a

Amber_lv 09-18-2006 09:47 PM

I've heard bare is good but never tried it

hunbun 10-03-2006 04:54 PM

i got my sample of everyday mineral today! very excited to try it out later tonight and tomorrow. any tips on how to apply it?

hunbun 10-04-2006 10:42 PM

okay, so i think i need some help with this, or different samples.
i tried the EM intensive formula. it looks and feels a bit heavy on me, and i don't feel like i've applied that much. tips and hints anyone?

KellyV 10-05-2006 03:54 PM

How much are you using?
You really only need the tiniest bit. Tap a very small amount into the lid, swirl your brush around in it, tap off the extra and then buff it into your skin. If it looks too light then add a bit more. But really, you only need a little bit.

Bare Minerals has a bunch of short "How To" videos on their website, but almost all the MMU makers have some sort of application tips you can check out.

If it still feels too heavy for you, you can always try another formula or another brand....

Sherry Lynn 10-06-2006 04:04 AM

I agree... you're probably using it like it was regular powder and that doesn't work. Tap off all the excess so the brush looks like there isn't any powder on it, and then buff your face with it. Good luck!

abaddon248 11-14-2008 08:08 AM

YOu dont have to buy from bare minerals or just sheer cover.... there are about 150 different sites that create their own formulas and are priced great and sometimes are better quality then the known name brands.
