We Have A New Family Member?????

We had a kitten show up a few weeks ago out of the blue. Not sure if it was dumped or why it showed up. It was skinny and scrawny so we fed it what we had.....dog food. It wouldn't let you get near it for anything and would jump at the slightest sound. After a week or so it took off and we thought that was the last of that.

Well, we heard some meowing at the front door and sure enough the same scrawny kitten was back, so we got out the food bowls again and the dog food. It's been here ever since. Ricky finally got it (I think "it's" a "her") to let him pet her and then a few days later was able to pick her up. Now she is friendly with everyone...even Brenna. The other dogs would probably kill her. Anyway, we ended up buying some cat food so it would get the proper nutrients and she's doing really well...not looking near as skinny and scrawny. Here are a few picks of her.... I think she's a Calico...but not sure....I really know nothing of cats.

What a pretty kitty! I'd say you definitely have a new family member. Have you named her yet?

JJJ 10-06-2011 06:56 PM

Aww, she's so pretty. I grew up with kitties although my mom never knew

We haven't named her yet..lol. Ricky suggested calling her Calli or Bonnie, me....I just call her Kitty. She really is pretty, but I'm just not a cat person. I don't really like all that rubbing up against me and trying to walks dangerous.

I'm not a cat person either but she is pretty!

I like Bonnie! I had a friend who named her cat, Kitty! LOL!

She is so beautiful, Janet! I am a cat person. I like Kitty. It's a good name for a cat...why not? Are you going to let her inside? Litter is messy, and the yorkies would probably think it's a great place to play!

If not, is there a warm place she can go inside in the winter?

I'd love to have an outside cat here, but there are coyotes down the mountain. I would worry too much. I don't see any cats around anyway.

Good luck with Kitty!

Judy, the cat will not be allowed in the house. Don't like litter boxes, cat hair or the thought that they walked in the litter box and then on everything else in the house... Eeewwww!!!

We will just keep a nice place for her to sleep in the garage when it's cold and maybe a heated bed
or blanket. Not really wanting to spend money on a cat... :)

I'm not real crazy about cats either but we did have an indoor cat once and we just loved her!!!

She looks like a sweet cat and I'm sure that you'll enjoy having her. Cats are usually good mousers and will help keep the mice away from the house. We have lost all of our outdoor cats and really need to get a couple but the dogs are so hard on them, especially when they're young.

I'm surprised because I figured you for an all dog person!!!!! Janet with a cat........Hmmmmm........I'm amazed!!!!!

Is she mocro chiped? my daughters cat went walk about for two months they got him back when he started hanging about someone who fed him, do you have your animals micro chipped in the states?.

Janet 10-11-2011 07:54 AM

I have no idea if she is microchipped or not. She's still here and doesn't act like she's leaving anytime soon...lol If she's still here in another month...we may or rather Ricky may take her in for vaccinations. We'll see. I can't hardly afford the 6 dogs let alone a cat. I'd like to find a couple homes for a couple dogs, but it's easier said than done and easier to say than actually do.

Living on a farm.....cats come and go. We have the hardest time keeping cats.....either the dogs get them (we have a large dog), they get up inside of a car motor, or wild animals get them. So we don't microchip them. It's just too expensive. I'm sure that people who really love and baby their cats do. We're just not that into them.

judy 10-15-2011 05:41 AM

Micrchipped cats usually wear collars too. When you take her to the vet, you can ask him to check.

She has joined a wonderful family! A bed already!

DianaB 10-15-2011 06:48 AM

She'll be in the best of care at Janet's!!!

Janet 10-15-2011 04:35 PM

She sure loves Ricky and comes running the minute she hears him. I have Mom's 3 wheel bicycle in the garage and it has a basket on the back. The bed Ricky bought her fits perfectly in it and that is where she sleeps....lol I don't know how well it will work....but I do have some rice bags that I can take out there to keep her warm. They last a good while, but I'm sure by morning will be cold again. Only takes a few minutes to warm them up in the microwave. I really think Ricky would be broken hearted if she left or if something happened to her. He's grown quite fond of her and the attention she gives to him.
