Blizzard!!!!!!

We have been getting hit all day by a crazy blizzard. I left my boyfriend's house for home at 6:00 this morning and it was windy but not too bad to drive. I got home and got ready for work and that's when it started! On my way to work I almost missed the turnoff for my road, and then the entrance to my parking lot. They were both just completely covered in snow like there wasn't even a road there!
More than half of the office didn't even show up this morning. My manager left early in the morning to see just how bad the road conditions were and he got his 4x4 SUV stuck on the road right outside our office. He told us we were shutting down at noon, and if anyone wanted, he would drive behind them all the way home to make sure they made it.
I decided to convoy with two other people from the office who live relatively close. I got out to my car and the snow that had drifted behind it in less than 4 hours of me being at work was already up to my knees! I got stuck in the parking lot, but I got out of that one on my own. I got up the road and to the main freeway in the city, trying hard to keep my eyes on the guy right in front of me, even with zero visibility. As soon as I turned onto the freeway a semi passed me and i was blinded until i ran smack dab into a snowbank. I couldn't get out of that one but luckily there were 4 people from work right behind me and they came and pushed me out. I finally got home after almost missing my house because I couldn't see a thing.
I called my boyfriend and he said he was going to stay at work and see if the whole thing blows over before he tries going home, but it's supposed to be like this all night so I hope he leaves as soon as possible, or spends the night there. My grandma called to make sure I was home and said that every store and major business centre in the city has shut down, and even the university was closed. My brother spent two hours driving a 15 minute trip from where he was working to his shop, and he got there and his truck was buried in snow so he's not making it home tonight.
I hope this whole thing stops soon :( I definitely won't be going to work tomorrow. My car is already a giant snowbank, and there's no way I'd make it down the alley behind my house to plug it in so it probably won't start in the morning anyway.
Okay my boyfriend is home now. I can stop worrying.

I'm so glad you got home in one piece!
Keep indoors and keep safe... there's nothing worth risking your life for in that kind of weather.

HUGS

Sounds like good weather to just snuggle down. Light some candles, find a good movie, and snuggle up in a blanket and stay there!!!

I'm glad that you and your boyfriend got home alright. Just stay put and don't try to go out until it's safe enough. We don't usually get snow storms that are bad enough that a 4X4 can't get through. If I was your mother I'd be worried about you. I like my family at MY house, so I know that they're alright, when it's bad outside. So don't make us worry about you---Stay warm and safe!!!

Yep ! I agree with Diana and Sheryl follow their advice. Glad that you made it home safely...

Well I'm managing to stay nice and warm now :) I made some hot soup and I just paused a movie to check my email. The snow has died down a little it looks like, but the wind hasn't! It's close to -40 with windchill, so I'm happy to sit on the couch all snuggled up with my dog :) Thanks everyone for caring!

Glad you made it home okay. It's just too dangerous to be out in that kind of weather. Some people try to drive like it's a normal day and make it bad for everyone. Enjoy your day off tomorrow.:)

These kind of posts make me really happy that I live in Sunny California. But we, too are expecting a cold front and are expecting snow. I'm sure it will be nothing compared to what Colorado and you other cold climates are experiencing, but it is strange for us to get much snow here.
I hope you all snuggle up with someone and stay warm and toasty!

I haven't been on for a while. (Had computer probs:mad: ) I'm glad you made it home yesterday! How's the weather today?

Tink 01-12-2007 07:34 PM

Winter weather has finally arrived here tonight. It's zero windchill right now with snow forecast for tomorrow night.
I picked up groceries on the way home from work, so we will be able to just hunker down and hibernate should the need arise. I have the next 3 days off, so don't mind not having to go anywhere. Hubby made it home, so we're ready to deal with whatever mother nature throws at us.

It's been -30 to -40 here for the last few days since the blizzard. Today is windy again and it snowed a little more. I'm ready for spring!!!! Next week it's supposed to get above zero (celsius) for a couple of days so hopefully it'll melt a little, at least on the roads!

Tink 01-13-2007 12:06 PM

Lindsey, I'm glad you're home safe. That kind of cold isn't safe to be out in, and if the roads are nasty besides, it's just too risky to be worth going out.

It's supposed to be snowing here but so far nothing. Fine by me! LOL

Keep warm and safe everyone!

I was bragging about sunny California. Well we had snow yesterday also, which is very rare. And it is still real cold. To show how we are not used to it, I'll tell you a story. My hubby took my truck to work yesterday because he ususally drives his Mustang down thru the pass to work, and the truck is a lot heavier incase of ice. He got home fine and we decided to go back down the hill to go shopping today. He wanted to wash off the truck, it was muddy, so we stopped by a do-it-yourself place and he opened the door to get out and dissappeared. The floor was wet and icy and he slid right down on his butt almost under the truck. After I stopped laughing, I yelled, are you okay? He sat there for a minute and then tried to get up while doing a little soft shoe on the ice. The truck got washed off and he got a wet butt and I started the day off with a good laugh. He wasn't hurt, it all looked like it happened in slow motion! So although it is a high of 23* here right now and will be 14* tonight, I would rather be here, lindsey than where you are so much colder. I can't imagine it being that cold.
Stay warm, dry and safe for as long as you can!

Oh yes, the pass...I used to live in California and know exactly that area you are talking about. So glad to hear nobody was hurt.

We are facing an ice storm here in Arkansas. It's freezing here and I too patiently wait for spring.

DCollins 01-14-2007 11:07 AM

Rivermom- It was so strange to wake up this morning and find the water pipes frozen to my kitchen! I am a native Southern californian so I haven't experienced this type of thing often. When I pick up poop, they are actually poop-sicles, and my outside trained dogs, stick their heads out of the doggy door and check out to see how cold it is.
Hope you stay safe & warm!
