Lamar, my 3 month old black labrador retriever
 

I cannot believe Lamar is already 3 months old! My my my...where has the time gone??? He is such a joy. I will admit that it was rough in the beginning...never underestimate the stress of owning a lab puppy. However, one good thing about labs vs. yorkies is that they are SUPER easy to potty train! I think Lamar only had 8-10 accidents in the house before he "got it." It only took about 2 weeks max.

I just sent in his registration papers to the AKC. We decided on "Oakdales Man in Black." Hubby and I are both big Johnny Cash fans and we thought the name was fitting. "Oakdale" is the kennel name from where we got him...it was required on his papers.

Hubby and I have decided to wait until he is 1-2 years old (when he is full grown) to get him neutered. After an extensive talk with my vet about it, we decided that since he is SOOO laid back and submissive and calm, there is good chance that he may never mark or hump, no matter what age he is neutered. AND I am seriously considering the possibility of showing him, for which he will need his "manhood." So, we'll see how it goes....the day he starts marking, it will be off with his balls! :p :p :p

We took Lamar to our friend's farm this weekend on Lookout Mountain in Georgia. He was REALLY in his element there. I took some nice pictures of him. This little (or BIG rather...he's about 25-30lbs now) boy is what has been taking up all my time lately. He is the reason that I am just now coming back to 4WT after a leave of absence. But I love him. He is going to be a GREAT dog.

Lamar is SUPER adorable. I just adore Labs!!! :) It sounds like you are having a blast with him. And, you are right. Labs are much easier to train then Yorkies! LOL :rolleyes:

Gosh Lamar is beautiful Rebecca. Labs are GREAT dogs, i keep asking myself WHY we never owned one years, and years ago! And how right you are, they are a breeze to potty train, and they listen. My yorkies are under the impression, their ears are stuck to their head to make them look pretty, the word "listen" doesnt exist in their dictionairy LOL

Lamar is just precious!! Our neighbors have a lab (yellow) that Marty just LOVES. They had so much fun when they were pups. They met when Marty was 4 months old and Hannah (the lab) was 3 months old. She was probably 3 or 4 times his size!! :) If I ever got a big breed, it would either be a great dane or a lab.

Can't wait to see pictures of him as he grows!

MARTY! How cute. We have nicknamed our lab "Marty." We usually call him "Marty Party." Sometimes I just call him "Party" bc it's funny! :p :p :p

We call Marty "Marty pants" sometimes (like Smarty pants) and my mom calls him Martykins. I have no idea why, but even the rest of us call him that at times now. Maybe Marty Party will become another favorite...hehe! :)

Rebecca, Lamar is sooo cute! I can see from the pictures that you're finding out that Labs love the water! My brother-in-law has a yellow lab that will jump right on top of you when you're swimming. We loved our black lab, Shada.

Oh Rebecca he is sooo cute!!! You really need to frame that last picture it is definitely frame worthy. I love my Yorkies and my Golden Retriever, but I miss having a black Lab. They are so gorgeous. AND yes much, much easier to train. We never had either of our black Labs neutered and neither one ever went in the house. Labs are such great dogs. My brother-in-law lives in Illinois and has two yellow Labs that he wants to breed. Sure hope he does his homework.
