 any elem. school teachers???

my daughter is in kindergarten. I am being told that she is reading at level 12. what does this mean? When I was her age, we hade "grade levels" for reading. "she is reading at a 5th grade level", etc. Well, I do know that the goal is for the kindergarten kids to read at a level 4 by the time they are out of kindergarten. She is at level 12 so I know it is good but I don't understand the "levels". any help?????

Sorry, I don't have any idea either. Why not just ask the teacher?

Is it a "level 12" or "level 1.2"? If it's level 1.2 then she's reading at a first grade level and two months into the year. That means that she's a little advanced for her age in reading, not too much, but a little.

Sorry Toodles, I don't know, but Diana's explanation sounded pretty good. Maybe you could call the teacher and have her tell you exactly what it means.

Yep that is what I was thinking. 1.2. If that is the case then she is reading well!
